Fun fact from wikipedia: "Outside of Germany, three Oktoberfest events claim to be the largest after Munich’s, with over 700,000 visitors annually: the one in Blumenau, Brazil;[1] the one in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States (700,000-800,000+ visitors);[2] and the one in Kitchener, Ontario (formerly Berlin) and surrounding cities in Waterloo Region, Canada."
Thanks so much for sharing. Visited there a while ago and felt it a great experience for the younger demographic. Very walkable and safe city with a startup and incubation space culture. Appreciate the video
It had a better nightlife in the 90s than today. There were 3 movie theatres just in downtown Kitchener alone. There were 4 or 5 nightclubs on any given night, an arcade, a pool hall and plenty of great restaurants and small bars. This was with half the population of today. Now it looks like a ghost of itself with condos everywhere, barely any nightlife and a lot of of the modern homelessness sadness everywhere.
Great video :) I’ve been here for 7 years and I reallyyyy like it but yes - sadly KW has grown wayyy too fast and become super unaffordable … I’ve been “2 years away” from buying a house in KW for 7 years :(
This is my home and you both did a great job in pointing out it's 'hidden gems' also. Why live in a city with traffic congestion that Starts and Ends your day feeling like you wish you owned a personal helicopter.
Just some more info on Blue Mountain. It is a is 2 hr drive from Kitchener to the town of Collingwood- in good weather. It's part of the Niagara Escarpment & not a true mountain-it's just what Jozo Weider named it when he created the resort , along with Peter Campbell, in 1941. It's not very big, but a great testament to what a ww2 refugee helped create when they came to Canada.
Very cool video. Tons of good memories. I lives in kw from 2010-2012 before I moved to Seattle. Inused to work for Blackberry. Good job girls !! Kisses and Hugs from: 🇺🇸Seattle WA & 🇨🇦 Vancouver BC
If you want to bore to death than come and live in KW. The good lively cities are surrounding GTA. Kitchener small streets and tons if people compared to the infrastructure. Greedy municipality who increases taxes every year more than people can afford. And Kitchener downtown you don't want to go. If you want to live good cites than I would Markham and Mississauga.
I always end up driving thru orillia. And even had a chance to do some house sitting for 2 weeks in August but rental cars were waaaay $$$. Thought of bringing down a Ecommuter bike I have left at daughter's in muskoka. But decided against it. But have always wondered what it would be like in orillia. It's close to Barrie and train to union and getting my Toronto fix. Also close to Niagara Falls and Niagara on the lakes. Two of my fav places I visit as often as I can when I'm in Ontario. It's close to gkids in muskoka/almaguin. Not to pleasant experience is "lake effects blizzards" in winter in Barrie.... Wonder if orillia has these. Is it a good retirement community? Close to Toronto without being in toronto? Plenty of marinas etc. My fav place in toronto to stay in or just between planes... harborfront on queens quay. I try to spend time between fights on purpose even schedule flights to give me time here. But what about orillia? How does it compare to harborfront. Orillia seems to have a good downtown atmosphere... Always a good thing...
Short answer. It is not. I’ve been looking to switch my job for quite a while but didn’t see any job opportunities as compared to cities like Toronto and Missisauga.
Better than Seattle to me, although my family went to Seattle americas valley of jobs. Also Seattle is expensive too to live mainly because of high taxes to continue developing into future.
You make it look so nice in your video. But having lived here for over 35 years, I can say it’s become a dump relative to how it used to be. What other city has 3 foot tall weeds growing out of the gaps between the curbs? Homeless encampments continue to increase thanks to our negligent government. Trash is everywhere (no garbage cans and people don’t care anymore). Urban design is now just build anything anywhere. And what are you talking about in terms of German culture? The majority now seems to be from Africa and East India (walk into a local CostCo or Tim Hortons with your cameras). Definitely not German here anymore. If you need emergency healthcare, we have two hospitals for everyone and your wait in emergency will usually be at least 8 hours. It’s also false that we complain about climate. We are far enough from the lake to ensure that we get less lake effect snow. In general, your video is misleading.
@MakeThatChange the hwy system is excellent but through the city. Just as an example 2 core east west streets intersect 3 times through the city and I find alot of the sub divisions to be confusing
@@oldwoodyif you remember that KW is two cities one going north-south and the other east-west that had countryside between them not that long ago, it makes sense. When they merged physically, main streets were just linked up - hence the King St north, south, east, and west.
@MakeThatChange I replied you like 2 weeks ago about that I want a most reliable method to get applied for a university through Pakistan can you help me with that actually I am a student and planning further to apply for university of Canada through most reliable I can't hold much expenses yea 😭😐 yes I would like to contact you let me know if you want to 👍
Compared to GTA Kitchener is so safe to drivers and passengers in my 11 months experience. If you're going to the Kitchener Market, don't forget to try the cake shop near the right side exit. 😊 Being a South Asian I'd avoid supermarkets and coffee places. Reason: staff assumes I'm from a certain country and speaks to me in their local language. Also, Conestoga is a public college. That's why everyone is here for PGWP
@@MakeThatChange I am fine with that. i can afford it. I love the freedom it gives me. Do you say the same thing about owning a house? is it a house ownership slavery too?
All that matters is you're happy with it. At the same time, imagine all the extra cash you could have if you could simply walk to a grocery store, to see a doctor or to see a friend. How much healthier Canada would be if it only walked more. There's an argument to be made that homeownership is just renting from the government. We made a video discussing that a few months ago, despite being homeowners ourselves. th-cam.com/video/DVHoIq3NUT0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ff1ZBLwcGMrHgLkK
@@MakeThatChange I dont need to save extra cash. I am doing fine. I do stocks and investment. I love my life with my 2 cars. if you are homeowners then you are locked in a house ownership slavery according your logic.

Thanks for watching!
I've seen a few of your videos. I was surprised to see this one of my hometown
let us know if we've represented it accurately!
I was born in Kitchener. I'm now retired and in my 60s. I think that you have done an excellent job of portraying the twin cities.
You forgot to mention the homeless situation in Kitchener
To be fair, every city in Canada has a homeless problem. Guelph is 30 minutes away and they are taking over the downtown as well.

Most welcome 😊
I went to Kitchener when I was 11 or 12. People were friendly didn’t care that I’m from across the boarder
Stretching the limits imagination... farfetched comparison, they might be similar when it comes to the living cost only.❤
