    I just wanted to say that I've watched your install videos because I own the 88 myself. They are amazing instructional videos and have purchased a couple accessories myself to "tact" it out. It is an amazing shotgun for the price and makes adding the upgrades worth it. Thanks for all the great videos and overall review. Your shotty looks great.

    i have a tristar cobra force home defense shotgun and placed a heat shield on it and also had the same problem of it moving foward after a few shots so i placed gun tape on the front end clamps on the barrel to make it fit more tight and it has not moved since

      2nd amendment fanboy Cool. Have you seen my video on how I solved this? It's in "My Maverick 88" playlist on my channel. Thanks for watching and liking.

    Thanks for the comment. Yes, the Mav88 is a great shotgun as is. I've shot 1 oz. slugs, .00 buck (8 and 9) pellets, low recoil and .000 buck. The Maverick 88 handled them all with no problems. It will be a good purchase...you won't feel sorry for buying it.

    Man, Cheech1968 thank you for the comment. I'm glad my videos help. Glad you like what I've done to "tact" out my Mav88. I just found a way to keep my ATI Deluxe Halo Heat Shield from "creeping" down my barrel while shooting my shotgun. I'll be posting an instructional video on that very soon. Thanks for watching, liking and commenting.

    I like your reviews a lot because you are detailed and calm and help people to understand. I am going to buy the maverick 88 (8 round) too but I will keep it as it comes. I think I like it better with the standard look and it's more solid as an impact weapon.

      +Rodney Clark You're welcome Rodney. I did find a fix that was easy, if you have the proper tools, and it worked fantastic. I do like the ATI heat shield and do now have it on my Maverick 88.

  • @rlmarin1968
    @rlmarin1968 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome...I was writing off the heat shield possibility, but may reconsider after watching your "fix" video for the issues you had with yours. I'll check back now and again to check it out once you post it.

    You can put a picatinny double barrel attachment for light forward of the heatshield to keep it from sliding forward.

    Wow it is great. Fun part is how many Maverick 88 people also own a Nagant. Just refinished my 91/30 add a scout scope and it looks great. Now to customize the Maverick.

    Well-done. Nice review - fair & realistic. Like you, I did the same as you (almost) by modifying my Mav 88 with just the ATI Tactlite T2 stock a couple weeks ago. I provided some feedback to both ATI and Amazon regarding my experiences, some of which you mentioned. Highlighting the action release access and fact that the pistol grip interferes with receiver removal are important. Glad you stated that as well. Everyone in our family was a bit disappointed with the lack of cushioning of the Scorpion recoil pad. Just though it should be a bit softer (i.e. Limbsaver products). But it is better than the stock pad. The stock adjusting is nice and overall aesthetics of the ATI product look great. Oh, and in my case, I also learned that because the Talon mount adapter fit so tightly against the actual rear of the receiver that for cleaning I not only have to remove the adjustable stock (like you mentioned) but I also have to remove that Talon fitting from the receiver. It just presses too tightly. Still, a nice option for those on a budget who want to upgrade their shotgun as time and finances permit. Thanks for posting.

    Hi there - regarding the heat shield, I purchased one on eBay, but if you Google; (John Masen Heat Shield Mossberg 500, 590 12 Gauge Synthetic Black), it will take you to a site to purchase it. I have the M-500 Persuader/Cruiser 8-Shot. I just picked it up on the 8th of July and already I have almost everything swapped to Tactical. I'm sure you will enjoy the heat shield I'm talking about, it's the latest n greatest it does not move, will not scratch your barrel and it's only 2 oz.

    Hi Rich Mytych. Yes the drop spacer come with the ATI Talon Shotgun Stock. I did decide to install the drop spacer. You can see my video on removing the butt from the stock. I explain in the end of that video why I decided to install the drop spacer...the drop spacer makes aiming the shotgun a lot better.

    I have the ATI Talon stock on my Remington 870, and a side folding ATI stock on my Maverick 88. The Talon stock is adaptable for the Remington 870, Mossburg 500, and the Winchester 1200. If you are having trouble using your slide release just use a Dremel tool to releave the stock for your thumb. Also, with my 870 and the Talon stock, I tried the cheek pad but took it off, then I didn't have to use the drop spacer. Unless you are using high sights or a scope you really don't need the cheek rest.

    Not really. Mako makes the same foreend in a "molded" style also. With that unit, you just use it instead of the one that came with your shotgun. I decided to replace mine with a new assembly and tube end nut in case I ever decided to change the foreend grip to a different one than the one I now have. Having the tube end nut gives me that option. I'm already looking at other forenend grips but haven't decided on which one I'd like to change to. Thanks for watching leonardtownyanks.

    Thanks for the video. I have arthritis in my joints so I find it hard to keep a gun up while hunting. I recently put a pistol grip stock on and it helps but I'm going to change the slide to a pistol grip attachment as well. I'm in Canada and it's hard to source parts. If you could add places you bought mods it would be a great help. Thanks.

      Hello. Thanks for watching and liking my video. I purchased these parts over 10 years ago from Amazon, which no longer sell these sort of items.
      Try www.atioutdoors.com/ and look under the specific shotgun model you have to ensure you are purchasing the correct item. I suggest contacting them first to make sure you are purchasing the correct item for your shotgun.

    The location of the slide release with relation to the pistol grip on a tactical / PG stock is the one thing that's kept me from adding one to a Maverick 88. At least the crossbar safety is still easily accessible, unlike the tang safety on the 500s.

    The Halvin Sales website for ordering the action tube states: Measure from top of threads to bottom of collar that holds the action bars. This measurement is critical to fit when ordering forearms or stock sets that include a forearm. For the most part, 20-year and older sporting shotguns and new tactical shotguns use the 7-5/8” slide. New sporting models have used the 6-1/2” slide for almost 20 years. There are exceptions, however. To be sure, measure!

    The Maverick 88 does not have a rifled barrel. I'd return the sabot slugs, if possible, and get some "rifled" slugs. I use Remington "Slugger" Rifled Slug, 1 oz. lead slugs. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, commenting, favoriting and subscribing.

    I have the Maverick 88 6 shot, 18" barrel and have started customizing it. The question I have is the forend replacement. I saw your video and I feel confident that I can replace theo whole thing pretty easily. I am about to order the Mossberg Slide action tube assembly but need to make sure I order the correct size. I measured current stock forend end to end and it's roughly 7 7/8". Should I be measuring from the pins in the arms to the the tip to get an accurate measurement?

      Please watch my last video in the playlist. I go over all the accessories, except the tri-rail forend grip. The ATI stock is great. I'm able to work through this issue. You'll only need to work the release once. After that, the gun is ready to go. In tactical situations I feel you will have already pressed the released and will have taken the safety off. But if it doesn't fit your needs there certainly are many pistol grips to choose from. One thing...in the 6 hour class I took. They would not accept anyone with simple pistol grips. They said they had one experience with someone who brought their shotgun with just a pistol grip. Well, 6 hours of training was just too much to handle with no stock. He had to leave the class. So, after that, they said they made a decision to not accept students with no stocks. Made sense to me. Anyway, hope this helps.

    If you are still uncertain about the length (as I was) send Havlin Sales and Maverick an email (or call). They should both reply withing 24 hours, and they are friendly. Don’t forget the tube end nut. You can use anything you have handy as a tool to turn the end nut. I assume you watched my install video of the forend replacement? If not you should watch that video also. I hope this helps…let me know. Thanks for watching, liking, subscribing and favoriting.

      At 6:08 I do explain this issue. That is one issue that you will have with installing this type of stock on the Maverick 88. I just work through it as I say in the video. You'll only need to readjust your hand to release the action once, after that you're good to go. If it's too bothersome you'll need order a left -hand trigger assembly. Hope this helps.

    will an ammo sleeve fit on that stock? Doesn't look like it to me.. That vertical grip is hideous.. I have a Maverick 88. Bought 2 days ago. Only thing I added was an ammo sleeve to the stock. 5 bucks. I keep 2 slugs and 3 buckshot in my ammo sleeve.

      MrMnmn911 You are in a severe disadvantage. If a man with an ammo sleeve decided he wanted to take your food and water he has approximately 53% more chance of succeeding. It's a nice stock but I go for function over form...

    quick question - in order to change to the 3-rail hand guard, do you HAVE to change the action slide/tube end nut, or is that an optional mod?

    • @MrMnmn911
      @MrMnmn911  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe a third party makes one that has the 3-rail hand guard molded on the action tube. But it's been a few years since I made this video I can't positively recall. I believe the price was just a few dollars less than replacing the action tube and purchasing a tube end nut. I did eventually put the original action slide back on. I preferred it to the 3-rail hand guard. Hope this helps.

    Very nice series of videos on the Mav 88 tac mods. So after all the new parts and time, was it worth it to mod the 88, or would you go with a factory modded Mossy if you had to do it over?

    • @MrMnmn911
      @MrMnmn911  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BrewCityRider It was worth it. If I had a do over, I'd still choose the 88. I did so because I needed a "budget" shotgun...which would still be the case. However, now that I've tacted out my 88, if I decide to get another shotgun I would choose another as I could now afford one but I don't think I need another shotgun, for now. Thanks for watching. Tacting out my 88 was a lot of fun learning.

    Mine says Maverick Arms Inc. is maverick arms different than Mossberg? Did Mossberg still make it?

      It is the same company. To be certain I'd contact Mossberg. They are very friendly.

    • @MrMnmn911
      @MrMnmn911  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cecilio Tabor Most any gun store should have a 20 inch, 8 round capacity, 12GA shotgun. Although, I haven't seen any Maverick 88's advertised or on the shelves in many months.

    • @ceciliotabor2892
      @ceciliotabor2892 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me and my friend bought ours from walmart and my other friend bought his from Big 5 and his looks way different from ours i have the 24" barrel with a Ported turkey choke tube on it. Also can you shoot slugs from it or no?

    • @MrMnmn911
      @MrMnmn911  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cecilio Tabor Sounds like you bought a Hunting model. I bought a Security model. I can shoot slugs through mine. I don't know about your model. I would email or call Mossberg about shooting slugs through your model. They are extremely friendly and will be happy to answer your specific questions about your specific model.
      If you email them give them your serial number, model number, barrel length, shell capacity and shell size. They'll need to know all that information to give you the correct answer. With the serial number they will be able to identify what type of shotgun they manufactured and what the specs are for that shotgun.
      They should only take a couple of days to reply...Santa Hernandez is the person who usually replies to my email inquires. Hope this helps.

    • @ceciliotabor2892
      @ceciliotabor2892 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok well thank you ill check em out and im not 100% sure what model.

    • @MrMnmn911
      @MrMnmn911  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cecilio Tabor That's OK. If it's a Maverick 88, then that is the model (Maverick 88).
      The serial number should let them know all the specifics on when and how your gun was manufactured. Also, let them know it is in it's original condition (if it is), with no modifications; they might want to ask, so tell them ahead of time.
      My Mav is stamped on the side with "Model 88, 12 GA". My barrel is also stamped with the specs on what it will shoot.
      Your manual should have a section on what can be shot through the barrel. Mine is pretty generic in that section because they wanted to cover a couple of their Maverick 88 models.
      Have you asked the store clerk that sold it to you about shooting slugs through it? That might be the quickest way to get an answer.
      I would think yours would, but only because I think yours is a Hunting model. Slugs are used for hunting. Mine is a Security model; my manual does say I can shoot slugs through mine.

      MrMnmn911 But do you have any skills? Are you in good physical shape? Can you go 2 weeks without food and still perform at optimum levels? Good genetics? Do you have a fast car? Anyone can buy firearms. Not everyone can become a certified Apocalypse Survivalist Specialist. It takes skills.

      +Death Proof Can you survive fire? Anyone can burn your fort down....with you in it. Are you a physically fit, trained fire fighter who can carry a 200 lb. man up a 20 foot ladder? There is no such thing as a certified Apocalypse Survivalist Specialist. Heck man...in all those zombie apocalypse flicks no one even poops...can you hold your poop that long?? Now that takes skill man.

    All uneccesary. Shotguns are made to be shot from the shoulder position.
    This is a decent, affordable, economy shotgun as-is.. Save your $$$ to buy a better Over and Under and/or used Remi gton 1100 Semi Auto if you hunt.
    All this crap is like putting donk wheels on a mini van.
