I'm a generator guy, but I work for a Briggs dealer. So I don't get my hands on a lot of different lawn mowers. But I do deal with some 49s and big blocks.
Those plastic intakes are known for cracking.
Not sure how to get one, but the 49 engines I've seen on generators have an aluminum intake. I do know the engine number as a 49G575
The later 49 thats labled as a 810cc professional has an upgraded blower housing with an improved air filter and an increase in cooling air, these inteks need it.
All that stuff is swappable onto an earlier engine.

Too bad its apart, coulda tried spraying brake cleaner around it and listen for a change but it looms like its metal intake time.

They pretty much all do that there is 3 gaskets between there and they usually seal just fine but if ur convinced it's leaking spray carb cleaner on it when it's running if it revs up u have a leak but otherwise spray the carb cleaner in the carb when it's skipping and if it runs better it's because the carb itself is plugged up and needs to be cleaned or replaced
