I feel the same way. I guess to us Kobe was immortal. He simply couldn’t die. My mind keeps wondering how can a man who has been through so much adversity and achieved so much glory, die? I remember seeing an interview with Kobe promoting his Kobe A.D. shoes and talking about his relationship with death, Greek mythology, and it dawned on me how much his career and life relates to that of Achilles. How they thought he was immortal until the arrow struck him down in his heel, and how we thought the same of Kobe on the court as he was literally getting better with age until his Achilles tore and we watched in disbelief. And now even after that we still believed the man himself was indomitable as he clawed his way back to finish his final years with dignity. Going out in a fiery flame of glory and carrying that same energy into retirement making an academy award winning film, writing best selling books and becoming the equivalent of a basketball sage. But no. Just as Achilles was a man, so was Kobe. And though the body may perish, the fact that I even speak of Achilles millenniums after his story was told, proves that Kobe too is immortalized in our memories forever.

Because it was such a random tragedy, never in a million years did we think the helicopter he always used would kill him. There wasn’t an illness that slowly took him out or natural causes that come with age, we just woke up one day and it was over. I don’t think it will ever fully register in people’s brain.

vglncom1 If Russell Westbrook wins the MVP this year, i'll be pretty annoyed. There was a couple years where Kobe's stats were the best, but his team didn't finish high enough in the standings, so they didn't give him the award. At least if James Harden wins it and Russell Westbrook doesn't, it will show that the league at the very least has a consistent formula, that you have to be a great player who has great stats, but plays for an elite team. Russell Westbrook would change that narrative if he wins, therefore leaving me to feel like Kobe was even more robbed.

I will say this and end the duscuiion right now. Without Pippen, Jordan would NEVER left the ECF and never taste a championship FACTS, Kobe won 2 without Shaq and have the more 4th quarter and game winners then Jordan. And Kobe can drop 40 in 3 different eras (end of Jordan's, during Kobe prime days, and beginning of Warriors/Bron/KD era couple years back.) Kobe is a whole different breed then Jordan despite they are similar players with similar playstyle and move sets

Kobe and LeBron speak so highly of each other.....pathetic how fans of one try to rip down the other. Just appreciate these great players who gave so much to the NBA. LeBron irritates me sometimes with his flopping and whining to the refs, and Kobe irritated me by sometimes not being a team player, but at the end of the day, you have to appreciate their talent, will to win, and what they gave to the game of basketball. I understand why everyone is commenting the same thing... Upon reflection and times these things get easier to accept
It's just the manner of the whole thing.... Doesnt feel real, father and child, with 7 others, and it just felt as though he wasn't near finished giving the world what he had
Also, for the record I don't believe that just because something happened, it was meant to happen
Its a coping strategy that helps others... And I believe that God can work out all things for good regardless of the event... But it's not the same thing as me believing that things sometimes happen outside of their natural course
But yes in this instance I see what most of you are saying

Kobe handled that taking nights off question very diplomatically.LBJ has logged ALOT of minutes since he's been in the league and since he's a vet he has gained the respect to take nights off for rest. But he has to realize that EVERY game he plays ESPECIALLY when he goes on the road to face a team for the Cavs only visit....he has to realize that a child begged a parent to get tickets to see their idol..HIM...He must ALWAYS keep that in mind.Kobe also makes a great point in conserving your energy during the game so you dont have to miss any games( unless you're injured/family emergency)
