I am in southeast Michigan, I was inspecting some hives and found some small patches of brood, I am thinking I should put pollen patties on just incase they need the food, I put sugar on the hives that were in need. Super exciting, nice video
Sorry. I completely missed this comment. Here in NC I start pollen right after the solstice which is when they start brooding up. I’m not familiar enough with the weather patterns where you are but would assume you are probably about a month behind. One of the main reasons I use pollen sub is to reduce stress on the colony rearing that first round of brood which allows the existing adult bees to live longer.
Charlotte. NC. Dealing with mites the entire fall. Still OA treating in late December. Mite drop is finally in single digits after 7 day cycle of treatments. Last treatment December 26.
They can be pesky sometimes. I had a battle last fall and had to treat multiple times to gain control. That OA treatment at the solstice seems to kick them out the door very well.

I start doing pollen sub about now. Have to ensure they don’t run out of honey though because they will start burning through it.
