Great job on the review. It's so helpful to have feedback from your actual experience of using the camera on jobs. Thanks!

Np. In the end I think what matters most is when you use it in the real world.

Very good review with the sort of real-world impressions we really need. Thanks for sharing.

I think real world and not just for testing is important. There are somethings you will instinctively do in real world which you won’t in a controlled test. And usually those are the things that make or break a product

Richard ! 😱 You had a CFExpress card, a Canon R5, you have lenses sharp as fu, good lightning and good photography, and you have not even tried to shoot in 8K ? Nuuuhhhh😨😢
At least you've used 4K HQ which downsamples a true 8K feed for a clearer 4K video and should give you a similar overheating to true 8K.
Funny to know that you cant stack the camera's IS with the gimbal, did you also get the 3D Focus System with the Ronin S2 ? Does seem like the future is finally there.
Thanks to everyone that worked on those music clips 👏💡💃📸
Have you ever tried to take an HDR PQ photo with the R5 ? Photoshop has finally given support to the HEIF/HEIC format since just a week, so if you are ever curious, I would be nice to try a comparison between the old PNG vs HEIF(HDR PQ mode) VS RAW as the difference between HDR PQ and RAW will perhaps become much smaller than the usual PNG vs RAW.

8k issue is my laptop can’t handle haha. I tried. It’s too intense. So HQ is best option. Maybe when the next gen M2 macbooks
I got the rs2 pro combo but not the 3D Focus since can just let the R5 autofocus. Unless you use manual lenses haha.
I didn’t try hdr pq since either way I will just edit from raw file. Raw file has way more information then 10bit heif or HDR

Salutations to your brave laptop that is fighting against the already mighty 4K 😁
I heard the combo 3D Focus + Follow focus motor works way better than any usual autofocus tech in our cameras, havnt tried it yet
10bit PQ HEIF might really be close to RAW which i think should be worth trying since its three times smaller than RAW with perhaps 90% of the RAW quality

Probably try it one day in the future. Both 3D focus and heif hdr

My projects makes me shoot quite a number of B-rolls in slow-mo and my Sony is showing its age(only touch focus not tracking and I'm on a gimbal with LCD blacked out with my RSC2/raven combo.) and thinking about a dedicated body just for that. What kind of autofocus is available in slow-mos say like 4k120/4k60 modes? Is subject tracking/touch tracking still work in those slow-mos?

Yes all AF mode works in higher FPS and from what I see, not much different from how they operate normally.
I will have to say though, the R5 focus is very dslr like, very jumpy with the L glasses but surprisingly smooth with their cheaper STM glass like rf35mm.
Personally if you have the budget and considering the R5, there is a host of other camera and you coming from Sony, I believe A7SIII is a better choice and from what I read it has full AF. Alternative there’s Sony FS6 and if you want Canon, C70, all can work at slowmo with AF and fit onto the rsc2 when using smaller lenses

@@ZPProductions I know, but I just couldn't value my thoughts buying into a7sIII. My story is different. I used to shoot travel landscapes with all my A7R3/R4s and stuck this year for obvious reasons and had to resort to helping companies shooting events, interviews, promo videos and thus all the video requirements. If I read correctly, A7sIII's manual didn't even mention a locking/tracking focus mode like my A7R4 does(besides the usual 5 modes there is a locking mode for all 5 af modes in photo modes.) And I don't know if its touching tracking would work in 4k60/4k120 as well. Even if it does, for the stuff I do(shooting company events/interviews/promo videos) I feel Canon seems to have a slight edge especially I'm dealing with lots of human subjects. I mean its hard to beat a combo of R5 with the F2 zoom and a 85 for all these work I feel. So the only unknown for me is I have no chance of trying it and know if the movie servo would let me do touch tracking even in slow-mo. If it does it would about perfect albeit there is overheating.

@@jamesjin8839 it does allow you to do touch tracking in servo. But from experience it’s good for short tracks but prolong tracking the r5 does get lost after awhile. I was trying to do that during my dance shoot and in the end felt area and eye AF was more predictable if given a track of over 30s of quick movement.

@@ZPProductions Thanks. That's more than enough for what I need. Those B-roll slow mo clips doesn't need to be very long for my projects.
