Hello, I’m a new subscriber and truly enjoy your gentle approach to the pitfalls and pleasures of owning a country home. I am a bit older but still embrace DIY maintenance of my small mountain home and property. I will give you a very reliable piece of advice I was given by my father and late husband. Do not buy cheap power tools. You will own this home and property for many years. When you begin each new project, you will understand the value of your new machine starting easily the first time and continue to run smoothly. It is a total waste of your money and more importantly, your time to stop work, change clothes and drive to the retail store to return/exchange a faulty machine. The time and frustration you experience are not worth the savings you thought you enjoyed. Buy the new Stihl products with the interchangeable batteries. You will have these reliable machines 10 years from now and they will start up the same as when new. Also, I know I sound like your grandmother, do not buy from a chain store. I do not know what is available in your village, but buy from a professional shop that sales only these machines. They usually have a repair/service center for solving mechanical problems. Sorry for my long epistle. Buy smart and please, please enjoy this beautiful opportunity in Italy.
Hello guys, I just found your channel and binging it 😅 my dream is to buy a house in Italy just like you did. Love watching your story. Please keep sharing ❤
I would have written off the strimmer too. I think I have seen that pull cord replaced on the Scotters. They are hysterical! The Newbys are great too! Nick on project Portugal can fix anything. Carlo on Nicky Positano knows someone who knows EVERYTHING about olives…he knows everyone, lol!! Reach out to them for some help!! You have the best location to have soooooo much fun!
Thanks for the recommendations! We watch Nicki Positano but we'll check out the others. Paul thinks he can fix the strimmer now, so we're just waiting on the parts before giving it a go!
I love the garden area and how the house is perched up high with those beautiful stone walls. It’s must be so gratifying to see the progress of the clearing. 🪴🐸
I lived in Italy for over 20 years. One thing I learnt is that you are best to make friends with the locals and once you have a few friends let them introduce you to the local butcher, handy man ect. I used to go a a butcher and get the worse meat. My ex Mil was horrified and introduced me to her butcher and told him that he’d better treat me well, lol. Italians are super friendly and fun but they need to get to know you.
Not an expert, but I reckon the sickly olive trees get no sun at all where they are, and they need full sun. The pines seem to be in the way. That would also explain the root rot. Don't fill the hole with anything, scrape away the rotten wood, and leave it exposed to the air/sun (if any). Or move them so they're in full sun.
Yes I think they are poorly positioned. There are numerous trees that have been allowed to grow too tall around them. We're going to remove some of those trees in December but I still think it's not the best location for olives
Your garden tool that’s broken, have you called the manufacturer? They may send out a replacement or have a service tech that would fix at no cost. Wishing you well. Bob and Jim USA
Hi Guys. Did you ever get the strimmer sorted? The olive oil festival looked great fun, the continentals are so good at these sort of get togethers. I think your YT skills a very decent, I'm definitely love them and IG and feel I'm getting to know you both.
Hey Bob! We haven't got it sorted yet but I think we'll make an effort to resolve it this week. We really need something to help us clear the brambles! Thank you for the feedback on the videos. At least I'm starting to work out the software so it's becoming a bit quicker to create them ☺️
Hi Guys, it's looking like a great little community! The 'strimmer'.... I'm not surprised. It won't get covered by a warranty, but there is good news, it's totally saveable.. check your DM's
People need to realize that Italy is not the United States. Things you can do in the United States you can't do in Italy. And one of them is very difficult is returning items. My husband and I have a house in Italy, and I knew that if I bought a strimmer it was going to be a rechargeable one even though I wanted gas. When you said you had to return it. I literally got goosebumps thinking. Oh my Lord, they're not going to be able to. It's going to be such a hassle. I even had a little bit of a panic attack watching you trying to get gas at the gas pump😅 Best of luck
It certainly is different! I kinda thought that since the UK is largely governed by many EU rules still, things like consumer productions would be similar. Well, they don't seem to be 😂 but we're loving this back to basics mentality and lifestyle. I'm now learning how to mend a broken strimmer, which is interesting! 😊
Your two stroke mix was too much oil to petrol. The pull chord often needs checking and properly fixing if your strimmer is self assembly. Hyundai have a good website and TH-cam channel. Also Hyundai will have an agent in your region who will assist you. I use mostly Stihl power tools and have two Hyundai garden power tools that work great. I hope you get the strimmer sorted.
Yes, seems that was the problem. Strange, because I followed the instructions on the oil bottle and on the Hyundai website so was sure I got it right. Clearly not! We're confident we can fix it now though, so we can have another go
Of course they should have taken the strimmer back -- you didn't pay the manufacturer for it, you paid the shop - your contract is with them. They give you a new one, and send the broken one back to the manufacturer. If this is how they deal with their customers, I wouldn't buy from them again.
This is what I found It is not simply the result of a natural process but is related to a treatment called sluping, carried out over the years by farmers . The inside of the trunk is dug out to remove the rotten part when the trunk is attacked by shearworm i.e., wood rot, a disease caused by fungi that causes the tree to perish. To prevent the disease from taking root again, the layer that emerges below the one removed is waterproofed with fire or waterproofing products. PS Love your videos Congrats on your new home Do not let the ivy get the best of you. You can do it🤗
@MirneDerks Here in the States No, you can not return a string trimmer with fuel in it because of safety hazards. Once gas has been put in an item, it is considered used, not returnable, and flammable.
Yes we have! To our surprise, there is a gay couple in our tiny village, and they have introduced us to two other couples living 5 minutes away. A really lovely bunch of people too
What they didn’t take it back you bought it from them they obliged to replace it there just passing the buck everything is On a twelve month contract just take it back again and insist they replace it if not go to the manufacturer I’m sure they will replace it with a better model 😊
If it was me. I'm not sure I'd try to save the 2 olive trees. If if they survive. Which is doubtful. The olive crop would be minimal. Masters in Horticulture.
You have a master in horticolture and yet an italian 90 yo farmer with primary school would teach you that the trees are fine...they just need pruning....listen chapman leave the olive trees to the italians think about your shit...in our culture olive trees are sacred we used to cut hands to the knes burning ir cutting them...cheers

Thank you for the wise words Judy ❤️ a few people have recommended Stihl products now!
@@stuartandpaulyes, we buy stilh here in Oz - well worth the extra money and light too. We buy cordless.
Lovely village .. I think you’ve picked a great location 😊
Thank you ☺️
That's what I love about village life in Italy and also France. It's so convivial ♥
It's amazing to see such a sense of community spirit

Thank you so much! New video coming tomorrow and lots more planned from March onwards ☺️
Hello Paul and Stuart my name is Lorraine friend of Margaret and your Dad love watching you we have visited Umbria and we loved it 😊

Aah yes, it is lovely to be working outside and seeing the progress being made
glad to see you guys making progress well done . Cant wait for the next one.
Thanks!
The village is really great. I have seen your list of vlogs that give you inspiration. May I suggest also Stories from the Cascina?
They look great, we'll binge watch them 😀
That looked like a lot of fun!
The wine made it particularly fun 😊
A tip for the ivy . Cut out a good wedge of ivy because it can reattach itself 😮 vile stuff ❤
Ok, I'll do that tomorrow! Thanks for the tip 😁
@@stuartandpaul no problem guys ❤
Great video and a lovely village❤ i would be very annoyed about the strimmer as I hate wasting money
We've had some great suggestions on how to fix it. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

We've been finding this is 100% true! Everyone we met wants to take us to the bar for coffee and to recommend people to us. We love Italy 😍
That’s great. Enjoy as Italy is truly a beautiful life. La dolce vita ❤
Did I see a STOP sign in Italy? 12:47
Buy a Stihl trimmer, battery, and enjoy Gardening without smoke.
Its expensive but very,very good.
Thanks for the recommendation, we might just do that!

Oh, that made me laugh. And DONT EVER try to take a 100€ security camera back to Leroy Merlin!! 😅@@stuartandpaul
@glennmartin346 hahaha - we were there today, although amazingly left without buying anything!
Fake info...you can return everything with a recepy and if you demonstrate that the tool was damaged....by law

That's exactly what we thought. We've since heard that they do this with everyone, unless you argue. Lesson learnt!
Once fuel is added, the retail store cannot except returns

Yeah, We're starting to think the same 😕 I might try a heavy prune in the winter just to see what happens but I suspect you're going to be right

You didn't buy it from the manufacturer, you brought it from the shop , they were responsible for your purchase.
Don’t suppose you would consider not playing music?
We'll probably tone it down a bit, but the very quiet Scandi type videos aren't really our style
@ Watch Domaine Sauvage or My Tiny Estate, lots of us, myself included, want talk and the noise of working.
Ok will take a look, we're definitely looking to improve 😊
@ Well, I, for one, plan on following your journey. The best of luck.
Was it normal that the strimmer was smoking like that ? I have no idea, but it seemes strange to me.
No, we definitely did something wrong 🙈
