Stuart and Paul
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ส.ค. 2024
We're Stuart and Paul, a British couple who have just bought an abandoned farmhouse to renovate in the hills of Umbria, Italy.
Follow us as we attempt to bring this small house and 4 acres of land back to life. We'll be splitting our time between the UK and Italy and will be bringing our two kids and dog Ben along on the journey.

We have to leave Italy. The farmhouse renovation must wait.
The time has come to leave our beautiful farmhouse in Italy. Post-Brexit rules mean that we can only stay for 90 days out of every 180, so we are returning to the UK for Christmas and for much of the winter. Before we go, we have some essential jobs to complete in the garden and we need to drive into our local town to activate our Italian phone number.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has watched one of our videos over the past few months. Both dealing with the farmhouse, Italian bureaucracy AND learning the new skill of video creation has been a wild rollercoaster, but having a community behind us has helped tremendously. We've loved reading every single comment and look forward to hearing from you as the project progresses.
We will now pause, take a breath and come back refreshed and ready to jump headfirst into the renovation project. We will be increasing the video frequency from March!

If you're new here, we're Stuart and Paul, British husbands who have just bought an abandoned farmhouse to renovate in the hills of Umbria, Italy. In our videos, expect lots of renovation, gardening and landscaping, as well as day-to-day life in rural Italy. Being a gay couple also brings a unique perspective, which we'll touch on in our content.

มุมมอง 3.9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This week we're taking you on our first full tour of our Italian woodland. We set out to discover the boundary for the first time. In total, we have 1 acre of gardens and 3 acres of woodland. We discover that most of the land is a very steep hill, there are some unexpected surprises and we end up walking along a beautiful ravine. There are also some bumps and scrapes along the way! Revealing the plans for our Italian renovation - we need your help! #5
มุมมอง 4.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This week we reveal the plans for our farmhouse renovation. We have a meeting with our geometra (a cross between a land surveyor and a junior architect - not a project manager as I said in the video) to draw up the first draft of the proposed work. We are very interested to hear your thoughts! We also had a fireplace disaster and had to call in a professional... This video is a bit different to...

Starting the renovation on our Italian farmhouse in Umbria
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
The first few days in our little farmhouse in Umbria have been a whirlwind. The first job has been to install internet as we both work online. We tried to get Starlink up and running, which was more difficult than we'd hoped. We also started to declutter the house and garden. The battle against the ivy has begun! The local village has welcomed us with open arms and we were invited to breakfast ...

Greetings from Calgary. Just discovered you on Facebook. Very much enjoying your videos!
You guys need better tools, there are better ones! Do some research. Good luck! ✌🏻💞😊
We're working on it 😊
Loving your videos. Have a good break!
Thank you!!
Was that Trasimino lake I saw in a distance? Love it been there .I can see an improvement in the garden and the surrounding terrassen. Keep up the hard work ❤❤😊
🦋💚💛🦋
Subbed , new viewer . But you boys need to invest in some good farm tools
Thank you do much 😊 we got lots of new ones over Christmas so we're better prepared for 2025!
I'd consult a local olive tree expert for feedback on how to proceed before removing them. It takes years to grow new ones.
The platform seems to be a hunting platform perhaps? Hunters shouldn't be on your land without your permission I'd guess but I don't know the customs of the area.
Decluttering will make the property look so much better! Ivy roots need to go so that it doesn't just grow back onto your house. I've planted ivy that then wanted to take over and all I could do finally was pull as many roots out as I could and continue pulling over time to remove all of it. If the roots are gone, the rest of the ivy will die on the walls. Best of luck
Thanks David
'living creatures??' I only get 'attacked' by spiky brambles when I am clearing the garden... 🙄😂
It's the mosquitos, the horse flies, the scorpions and the snakes that bother me 😂
Congratulations on your new home! I am enjoying this journey with you both but if you could you please minimize background noise like the radio when doing your commentaries as it's very distracting and sometimes difficult to hear.
Thank you! Will do!
That art piece of orange I beams is terrible against the backdrop of that beautiful old city! Buy a good Stihl trimmer it will last a very long time and be trouble free!. Don't waste your money on other brands they will break down and not last! They are not cheap but are worth the money. A hedge trimmer would work well too and has a longer reach.
Can't wait to see the walls uncovered. The Cathedral was beautiful. The whole place already looks so much prettier.
I hope you had a good trip to the UK. Ivy and brambles are the most hated plants for gardeners. You need to dig the roots out, otherwise they come back.
So what’s the objective? A holiday home, or eventually moving full time?
For now, we are splitting our time 50/50 between the UK and Italy, so it's much more than a holiday home. Our work is 100% remote so we are able to move between countries pretty seamlessly. In the future we will likely spend more and more time in Italy
Je vous souhaite une très belle année 2025 charmant couple! ❤ Todi et ses environs ont l’air très beaux.
Beautiful house! Thank you for the video!
Glad you liked it 😊
Hi Guys. Now that I've met you both online and adore your Italian adventure. I'm sure your followers would love a catch up now and then just to see where you are and what you're up to. I know I would. Best of luck guys enjoy your break away. Bob
Thank you as always Bob! I think we probably will make an appearance before March 😉
Will definitely miss you guys but glad you’re taking a break!
Thank you Kelly, we won't be gone for long ☺️
Watching you reclaim the landscape is incredibly satisfying. It's going to be spectacular.
Thank you - there will be a big transformation in the spring!
Good idea to take down the bread oven. It disfigures the classic and beautiful facade of the house.
Such a perfect place. The proximity to the village, the seclusion, the land, the views, the size and configuration of the house, the condition of the structure and the quirkiness of the furnishings... all are ideal. Well done finding it and making it yours!
Thank you, it's lovely when someone can see what we saw. The poor little place stayed empty for so long and we really can't understand why!
Fantastic work. You've really made great progress.
You should have asked for "caffè freddo shakerato". You know how fussy Italians are about coffee! 😂
Haha, yes. And anything freddo in winter is a no-no 😂
Love what you're doing guys!
Hi guys, so you’re having a holiday good for you we’ll see you back sometime in March. Have a great time.
Definitely a brush cutter job. It is an easy fix and should be less than hours work.. safe travels
We've got all the bits to fix it, so we'll give it a go as soon as we're back
Alarm set for March. Have a great holiday lads. All the best 😁👍
Thank you so much!!
Doing an amazing job. Must admit you are inspiring and I find encouragement watching you. I still have to get up the nerve to actually post our story to TH-cam
Go for it, it's been great fun and has connected us with so many interesting people!
Happy 2025. You looked so miserable with that coffee. Next time try a caffè shakerato - if you haven't already 🙂 Looking forward to your projects in the coming months.
Noted on the shakerato 😁
Suffocate weeds and ground cover, you can use a method called "smothering" by covering the area with a thick layer of material like cardboard, newspaper, or a tarp (non transparent), which blocks sunlight and prevents them from photosynthesizing, effectively killing them off. Tarp is the way to go and weigh it down. Will take a few months, but it is worth it with a large property in progress. Love seeing you 2 and your videos ❤
That's a good idea. We're going to clear that damn terrace if it's the last thing we do!
The place is really coming along really well. You should hire some goats to eat all of the brambles for a few days.
Goats eat brambles?!
Absolutely! While they’re eating the brambles, you can chill and have a beer or glass of wine.
@@stuartandpaul they will amaze you! They’ll have it clean in no time:e at all! Best of luck!
next time ask for a sacherted coffee!
Caffè sheckerato!
Happy new year …two weeks ago lol 😊
A bit late 🫣
You should ask for a caffé freddo, but not in winter...
Another Brexit benefit.
Yep! We're working on a plan B but it's a slow process
@@stuartandpauldo you have a Commercialista? Ours recommended, as my wife wasn't receiving an income in the UK at that time she could apply and that would reduce our Italian tax bill
We do have a Commercialista. We are working on citizenship as we have Italian family 😊
Wow what an adventure. I look forward to sharing your journey 🫶
Looking forward to march❤
We'll be posting much more frequently, promise ☺️
@ super!!!❤️
Stay safe 🙏 Look forward to seeing you both back here soon ☺ The pause does give you plenty of time to come up with new ideas for your home 🏡 ❤️🤍💙 Bless 🌟
I know the culture is different but extremely dangerous to just leave traps and not inform you.
Yes, we weren't very impressed! Still trying to work out what to do about it
@@stuartandpaulyou can report it to the 'Forestale', environmental Police (grey uniform with green piping) they are responsible for all sorts of things and placing of potential illegal traps, would certainly come in their remit. From a diplomacy point of view it might be worth mentioning it to a local first, The Mayor or local do'er...the message will soon be out.
Happy travels. Look forward to March 😊
Looking forward to seeing you guys again in March!
Thank you! You never know, we might pop up sooner ☺️
@ 🤞🏻
Why is an ugly red monstrosity being displayed amongst beautiful architecture. Shameful.
See you March, must feel horrible to leave your lovely home in Italy. Can you please tell me the song you used in your opening scene of this video,it was lovely. See you soon. 😊
Of course, it's called A Little Longer by Louis Island th-cam.com/video/lBoMWHL7DCk/w-d-xo.html
