    Welcome to 4K Motoring!
    A few months ago we switched from the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Trail II on our 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4S to the new Michelin Road 6. This tire was immediately impressive, complementing the Multi's handling perfectly. After nearly 8,000 miles, we discuss how it's holding up and what we've learned.
    We will be tire shopping again soon, what do you recommend?!?

    I completely agree with your observations; I ride a bit off-road and predominantly on-road. You're the first person to state what I have been feeling for the last three years with this tyre, the voids in the tyre really help off-road. They sink into the gravel a tiny bit more than a typical road tyre, and they bite and get traction when accelerating. The stability on loose gravel is amazing; I have taken these tyres up steep dirt tracks in the wet and never lost traction. They work well above their 90/10 status. The confidence on gravel roads for a 90/10 tyre is amazing; I considered buying a 50/50 tyre for more off-road conditions, but the on-road performance of this tyre makes me stay with the Road 6. The grip in corners when riding on road in dry/cold/wet conditions is incredible, and straight-line acceleration is great. And for the times anyone wants to go off-road, as long as it's not deep sand or mud, the tyre will perform well. And I love that deep V for tipping into a corner. It's a tyre that makes me smile at the end of every journey.

    Great review as always and by far, the best all around tire on the market, especially for riding in wet conditions. Thanks for sharing your take and confirming what we are all getting to know about these great tires,

    I just put a new set of Road 6's on my '22 V4S after 20 months and 10,500 miles with the Trail II's. So far, after 3 rides, I'm liking the move. Definitely feels more maneuverable and the ride is smoother where pavement is new. So far so good.

    I have has several instances where my front with the stock Pirelli’s has washed out a bit on the road. I am looking forward to replacing with/ the Road 6’s and may do the swap before my scorpions wear out. I have trust issues with the, now. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Road 6’s. I clad my 2014 Multi with the earlier version of the M. Roads and loved the grip.

    dunlop Mutants might be a good option for more off the beaten path riding. Pretty good in mud. I mean they're not meant for really off road riding but will work on most gravel and dirt trails pretty well.

      Good suggestion! I just ordered a set of the new Michelin Anakee Road tires which seem to go for a similar 90/10 audience. We'll see how it works!

    Tomorrow, Saturday a pair of Road 6s will be mounted on my Hypermotard 950 SP. This time of year, the roads I ride up in the redwood forest hills have continual runoff that last months. I´ve named part of my favorite 14 miles of road Slime Gully; the pavement is green pavement twists that rarely see direct sunlight. I plan to to dial down traction control as they wear in to get an idea of their performance. I have a few miles of high speed freeway to handle and that will round out the overall performance of these tires. Thanks for the review.

      @@4KMotoring I rode rhw Roads 6s on roughly a 120 mile r/t yesterday. My began on city street, then to a freeway, to a coastal road, then on a road to sweepers; Slime Gully, then an ascent on a redwood forest road with tight twisties. First impression is that R6 tips in very nicely. It handles the sweepers with confidence and even when I had to dial it back because of very wet post-rain road conditions. The rear end only lost traction and tried to come around only once, just past Applejack's (northern California riders will know the location). The turns were messy with runoff that, combined with residue from the clown-show called road improvement in these parts. Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP are ~440 pounds wet, so that means tire pressure must be less than Michelin's standard recommendation. I was fortunate to have a friend who is a whizz about tires present in my garage (thanks, Ana!) when the tire change and mounting was taking place, so 36F & 42R - worked beautifully for Ducati & rider weight! I need more roads for testing, but as of this writing, the R6s are and -A- . I spoke to some riders yesterday who also run R6, and they give a firm thumbs up. FWIW; the R6 are mounted on O.Z. forged wheels.

    Hmmm, good question about off road tires for the multi v4s. I resolved this dilema by trading in my fjr for a DesertX.....problem solved!
    Note, my multi off road riding is spot on with yours. Also, completely agree with the "90/10" mythos, yup, road tire!
    Great video as always, thank you sir!

    Hi, I'm facing a similar problem with my V-Strom 650 - Scorpion Trail II need replacement and I'm thinking of either the Scorpion Trail III or the Road 6. There's neither many reviews of the new Pirelli tyres nor comparisons between the two I could find. I'm not doing anything close to real off-road, some gravel roads only and it's rather rare. I'd love to hear some thoughts on the Scorpion Trail III and the Road 6...

    • @4KMotoring
      @4KMotoring  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have done some impressive off-roading on the road 6 without issue, and possibly so even. I did just order a set of the new Michelin Anakee Road tires and will have a comparison video up soon, I would expect it to be pretty similar to the scorpion trail 3

    I am thinking about a set of the Road 6 GT version. I ride 2 up mostly and loaded for long trips on a 2008 K1200GT. I have run metzeler roadtec Z8 and have never been happy with the front cupping. Once I started using the K spec rear, i got much better mileage but never past 6000 miles. I'm considering the Metzeler Roadtec 01, GT version, but can't find much about it. Seems these Michelins may be the way to go. Any feedback would be appreciated.

      I've run the Z8 in the past, but was never super impressed. For 2-up riding on the 1200GT, the Road 6 GT would be my absolute recommendation

    Do you find the bike pulls to the left with the road 6's? I've run two sets on my GS and they pull to the left if you release the handlebars (checked installation in both cases, forks are not bent ect.). I've read some others on forums complaining about it. As much as i generally like the tire I'm thinking of trying something else next set because of this, maybe the metzeler tourance next 2's.

    • @4KMotoring
      @4KMotoring  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's interesting you say that. I have noticed a slight pull to the left when releasing the handlebars. I adjusted the rear axle alignment and it decreased, so I chocked it up to the alignment marks on the swingarm being slightly off.
      I'm hoping the Scorpion Trail III will be out in January for me to switch to

      I put these tires on my '22 bmw k1600gtl. Obviously a very different bike than the one in the video, but I noticed the same thing. I used to be able to activate cruise and ride as long as I liked with no hands on the bars, but with these tires, as soon as I let go of the bars there is a dramatic pull to the left that can only be compensated for if I hang dramatically off the right side of the bike. Also, the bike is much more nervous at triple digit speeds with these tires than it used to be.

    Great review, i've just got myself a pair. One comment though, it would be really helpful for overseas viewers (im in the UK) to also put measurements in 'mm' as well. 3 or 4 32nds to me is a head scratching time. Cheers.

    If you’re going for Michelin for your Multi Strada maybe try Michelin Road 6 GT - designed for heavier bikes as these tyres have an extra ply for support

      Looking at the load ratings, the GT seems better suited for bikes like the Goldwing or BMW K1600. The multi is 475lbs dry, so the regular Road 6 seems like a good fit!
      I'm now testing the new Michelin Anakee Road tires and so far I'm impressed!

    I have a 2023 Pikes Peak with 4,000 miles and the stock Pirelli Rosso Corsa 4 tires are almost done. My question is, did you consider the Road 6 GT which is supposed to be better for heavier bikes with stiffer sidewalls?

    • @4KMotoring
      @4KMotoring  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had a hard time really deciding between the two, I have the GT on my BMW R1250RT, which is almost 200lbs heavier. By my math, the Multi is still within the load limits of the tire.

      @@4KMotoring Thats funny. I just sold my 2023 RT to buy the Pikes Peak. Also a great bike, but I love my Ducati. I think the RTis only about 45 lbs heavier than a V4S and about 90 lbs heavier than a Pikes Peak. Thanks for the video!

    I think this tire is available in a GT version which I believe has a stiffer sidewall for greater load. Do you think the GT version is a good idea for your bike? I ride a 2022 BMW R1250GS and don't carry much load when I tour. Also I rarely if ever carry a passenger so I am thinking the GT is not necessary. Any thoughts on this?

      I've been trying to find an objective answer to this very question. I have a friend on an FJR1300. He was running the road 6 and on a trip I noticed his tires were showing signs of significant deformation under the higher weights (he's a bit larger than I am as well). Mine are wearing nearly perfectly. I'm not sure what the overall weights required to move up to the GT, but it's somewhere heavier than the Multistrada but lighter than the FJR1300. Hope that helps!

      I would go GT.

    I have just purchased a pair of road 6 GT's to replace my road 5's so I am looking forward to seeing if they really are any better but I still have a mil or so tread left on the road 5's so I will keep them as a back up pair I think. Tyres are so expensive these days. £340 delivered to my door and then the fitting costs on top. It's fair to say my wallet is taking a beating. I'm not to concerned as long as they are as good as people say.
