Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic was one of my first games. Decided not to buy the latest but it’s fun watching you play and seeing so much that is familiar to me from my years playing its predecessor.
As for the “lucky” trait it sounds exactly like the “blurred” trait in AoW II: Shadow Magic. Same 25% but at least it wasn’t an entire race that had it. Only certain units within races had the trait lie the leprechaun or mystic.
Your structure build order matches exactly what I used to do as well. Builders hall for production rate, then I build a shrine for either pop or magic as soon as it’s available.

Yaay! One of my personal favourites now on this channel! It's like Heroes III and Disciples had an awkward baby while Sid Meier watched. And now Indrid is casting it. Awesome!

The Eldar heard there was no more Slaanesh in Age of Sigmar and tried to travel there through the warp, but ended up in Age of Wonder instead.

It was a game that didn't live up to the hype around it, it's not a bad game. It's just a bad Dawn of War game.
AoW 1 and 2, one of the best TBS. It is nice to see 3-d part, but it may better ! The guy who created Minecraft is sponsored it - if I'm not mistaken
I usually get bored by long explanations but for some reason listening to your calm, simple and yet exaustive explanations feels so natural. Keep up with alt videos if you like :)
So the beginning was a bit dull with making the races, but the gameplay itself was entertaining. Thumbs up for that. ALso, they have a halfling settlement called le Shire? Really?

I've been curious about this game for a very long time; definitely appreciate the time devoted to explaining the mechanics.
My biggest problem with this game was there was 1 campaign mission where you got an insane turn restriction to find and take 3 settlements and kill this one dude who keeps running away.

did you played the predecessors? I like aow sm the most. there are pretty awesome comunity Patches for it. the only Problem is that the random map generator sucks....but there is a great pool on maps form the community.
Keeper of the Peace Adept + Master has the spells Spiritual Freedom and Keeper's Creed. Spiritual Freedom will convert things no matter what they are to Dedicated to Good and grant Meditate which grants a random bonus each battle. Keeper's Creed grants +2 Holy Damage and +2 Damage to Dedicated to Good units. Super Strong.
Good video love this game. Will watch the whole series, but being able to use your heroes without fear of death is a bit OP.
You can use a builder to span a one-hex gap - wondering if you might have delayed research on seafaring
High Elf Sorcerer with Air Mastery might be a bit overkill on the electro damage.

Thanks for giving us new ideas on how to play around with the random map setting. I think I will try them myself after this. I never realized it had so many options despite playing on random maps for +100 hours.
I find these games very unfun to play, but not too terrible to watch someone else play. I like how you explain things too. I watched someone else play crusader kings for about 5 minutes but didn't understand a damn thing, because he didn't explain anything.
Just noticed this game in my library...was wondering if it was worth the hassle of installing gog galaxy and play it through steam for some reason lol.

IMHO, choosing elves as sorcerers is inefficient. Elven storm sisters anyway get inflict stun at gold rank , which is what is the specialty of sorcerers. Their main play style is dependent upon stunning their opponents with their support units , any race you chose as sorcerer can get inflict stun with a spell. Id rather go for a human sorcerer who get healing, inflict daze due to their race and inflict stun due to the sorcerer class. But thats just me.
Good points. In favour of Elf Sorceror however is the extra research (ymmv, depending on map settings, from irrelevant to a big deal) and Archers which are great at keeping your Supports safe. Also, phasing Unicorn Riders are always fun, to break up a formation, ad again keep the heat away from your Supports and Archers, ditto Gryphon Riders, which are imho somewhat underrated.

Even medium 6 feels too big imo, I like small 4 or small 8 with 4 underground, medium 8 with no underground too. In my experience, unless you spawn close to someone, you have multiple T4 units and summons before fighting a single battle against another Player AI. At that point it’s just a doomstack steamroll and the game becomes a map painter, some people enjoy it, but I find it really boring if you know you’re going to win every battle with basic effort.
Big maps with max independents as necro and trying to conquer everything as quickly as possible is fun though.

Literally, first time me seing AoW 3 gameplay, and well... is it just me or half of the music is basically a remix of AoW 1 music? Don't get me wrong, love the first one and still complete campaing from time to time. And this looks way better then the second one that I rather hate.
@indrid If you like this, have you tried Eador? There's some ideas in it i like better.
I tried Masters of the Broken World briefly and found it a bit too slow paced. Not tried Imperium.

I haven't tried experimenting with mods yet... Anyone know any good ones? For instance UI improvements and shit like auto end turn capabilities. The ones you have on look cool! I do think it's unfortunate that so many cities spawn.... i like the uniqueness of having a unique class/race "identity," with a mix of different playstyles. What kinda irks me is the randomness at which the spawns are based leads to erosion in this unique trait of the game. If you spawn next to a dwarf city, you can make them your vassal and eventually absorb a dwarf city, no matter what starting race you were. I think having more animosity between certains races would be interesting... that way you really need to put some effort in if you want to do something *different*. Additionally, if there is a mod that simply limited heroes spawning in a city to a hero of the RACE of that city, that would be dope. I just don't like how everyone kinda has all the units you know? It would be interesting if there was a mod to limit that a little bit and emphasize the uniqueness of the races.

I like mods. Send me mods or sites for good links pls.

For someone who has 300 hours in AoW3, you should know by now that going in and doing that weak ranged attack instead of just defending is a suicide move, which cost you that hero. Sadness :(
Poor high elf swordsman get no love
They are terrible units, I play elves all the time... always skip over swordsmen... prefer elven pikeman a lot more for cheap melee units.

If you're coming back to the game, I highly recommend checking out some of the amaizing aestethics mods that have been released on the steam workshop (like unique looks of class units for each races, etc).

Not quite. AoW has a much bigger emphasis on the battle, exploring and leveling your heroes. Endless Legend on the other hand has a more complex economy and empiremanagement-aspect.
In AoW3 you basically only win by fighting whereas in EL you can also win through other victory conditions although it usually involves a lot of fighting aswell.
If you say so. You may well be right its just that this is literally the first hour that i have watched from this game. Ill just take your word for it, for now.

Actually those high elves are this universe middle of the road in between the good wood elves and the evil dark elves. And they do go evil after a while.
