: )))) Noticed the "Nolan" reference. :))) He intro'ed me to the Multi hole, Fire Ant nests !!
They are more delicate artisans, at the Bonzai/delicate Coral style pieces!!!
I saw your attempt at the yellowjacket nest. Dayam ! Too much hive, not enough tunnels :)))
I like that you don't use water to cool it down. I know you have to use it for the wash, at least you still conserve. COOL! :))
Have you seen the huge outdoor sized ones from, "Australian Ant Art". The ants are all bigger, like their spiders, so the form consists, (even the small nests), of tunnels with flat horizontal chambers spaced almost like a mutant mushroom colony !!
There is one that is as big as a car and held together with rebar and metal frame, The chambers look like small pies!! on racks !!!

Yes. Nolan. I definitely need to upgrade the vessel so I can pour better hills. I just posted a video where I used 3 crucibles, it turned out nice. So I wonder if flat shovel 1st to level the hill, then wait a few minutes, then with cut coffee can top at 1/2" for round base mold , then pour?
or is most of the tree tunneling in the hill?

    • @MyLooneyBin

actually i really like this idea. and when you mentioned it, oddly enough I just saw something like that the other day that gave it a round bottom base ... I just didn't know how they were getting it, but I bet they are doing exactly what you say. I will have to give that a try. although, my plastic Maxwell House containers wont get the job done, might have to grab a can of something next time I am at the grocery store!

@@MyLooneyBin Might need to experiment 1st to find out interaction effect possibly bonding aluminum to coffee can / Upside down galvanized milk pail, or ceramic/clay mold flower pot top? Problems sticking, shattering? etc... so needing to add a few more procedures into the process ...i.e. just make a mini base experimental [heat] pour using different materials for mold. It would make a good video by itself. Then maybe do the ant hill & add base while still in the ground but mostly cool? Let me know what you get?

Just because someone loves ants, doesn't mean they don't understand that invasive species need to be dealt with.
I have my own collony of ants in my bedroom (in an enclosure) and love them to bits... Fascinating animals... but yeah, those Solenopsis invicta fire ants are a plague on many ecosystems, nd should be erradicated to the last worker where they arent native, with no hesitation.
