    Imported Red Fire Ants (Solenopsis Invicta) are an invasive ant species in the southern United States. They kill other native/beneficial ant species, endangered ground-nesting birds, and send people to hospitals. These ants are harmful to the ecology of Florida as well as many other southern states.

    Long time but worth the wait. You would think with temps of melted aluminum the small roots would burn in two. Have you ever considered adding a bit of zinc to increase the flow and strength?
    Thanks and always enjoy watching those little critters fry.

      That’s something I’ll keep in mind for the future, most of the time they’re pretty strong but this casting only took in one spot. You’d think the roots would burn out , but they add to the casting in my opinion. This one looks really good with the root going through the middle actually.

      @@NolansAnthillCastings I've binge watched all your vids, I am an avid fan of the wulf 56, found your channel through him.
      I've only found one casting other than ebay and it was at a flea mall just south of chattanooga. Like I told D I've all kinds of opportunities, have all the materials to cast with but in central Alabama our ground here is basically clay and rock. Love what you do, keep it up, maybe the next hurricane , coming my way now, won't slow you down.
      Thanks

    So sad it broke. Seems to me that "the quick way" on the bigger ones isn't the way to go. Slow and steady and patience will give you a cool reward. Good job, nonetheless, you are getting better and better. Can't wait to watch more.

    That was a tough one! It looks like your just looking it on ant hills. I have been looking for ones with big entry holes. But it looks like it finds those holes somehow?

    • @NolansAnthillCastings
      @NolansAnthillCastings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So this casting backed up a hypothesis I had about these sort of anthills. Basically these ones work really well if you haven’t had rain in a long time since all the soil the ants move is very light and fluffy so the metal punches right through it and into the harder ground where it can find a lot of tunnels and entry points giving you the most complete casting. However if it has rained recently like in the last 1-4 days the ant colony won’t have had enough time to rebuild that fluffy layer and you will only find 1 or 2 entry points resulting in a fragile and incomplete casting. As I do more castings I’ll be more sure of this hypothesis but it seems to be pretty accurate from the 4 of this type I’ve done so far. Two were still recovering from rain and were incomplete/fragile and the two that were completely dry on top were large and sturdy. All four castings were roughly the same size/shape at the surface as well.

      @@NolansAnthillCastings thanks so much for the complete answer. I am so new and trying to figure it all out. your castings are awesome! can't wait to see the next one. I have been trying to figure out a way to possibly make them "shine" a bit, or even the possibility of painting them?

    • @NolansAnthillCastings
      @NolansAnthillCastings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MyLooneyBin I've also been looking for ways to make them shine. I heard just a vinegar bath overnight should work but I haven't tried it out yet.

    It turned out really good, you could make a mount and and use the root to hold it. I usually let mine sit in the garage for a week or two and then once all the roots dry out I take a torch and burn the roots out. Just wish I could do some more anthills, we have just had way to much rain, and not enough time to dry out with the soil we have. I have a plan, to try to get the ants to move above the ground where it is drier with the help of some buckets. I'm about to try some Orbeez, have you ever tried them?

    • @NolansAnthillCastings
      @NolansAnthillCastings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Havent tried the orbeez yet but the castings they make are pretty cool. The roots actually look pretty good in this one so I'm going to leave the big ones and use tweezers to get all the tiny ones out. This casting almost didn't work due to all the rain we've been getting too. Hope things dry up for you soon!
