I have a degree in Fine Art, a certificate in Art Education, specializing with Airbrush Techniques, plus an Associate Degree in Business management. I'm an old Vietnam Veteran (2/502 Infantry, 101st Airborne). I've pinstripe since about 1967 and to this day I still love doing it. You can loose yourself creating magic with negative space... Nice post mate ... thank you
I’m a qualified mechanic, a terrible musician and a worse skateboarder. I’ve been pinstriping about 25 years and still enjoy it (well, most of it). Thanks for your comments and for watching 👍
Do or do not. There is no try.... Anyway, great stuff. I find I see certain things like shoulders, eyes, helmets from Lotr. And guitarbodies. Double lines. And plants and bodyparts. But some aint working so I dont do them. Some work. I do them. Find a set of shapes u like. But I am a beginner. Get confident sort of.
I have the same issue on coming up with ideas, with my other artwork theres planning involved.. but this is so freeing and its awesome! I need to just relax and stripe as I go lol
Hi, thank you for watching and commenting. I rarely plan anything when pinstriping, maybe the area, rough size and shape I'd like it to be and the colours, the rest just sort of happens. I use this doodling thing to practice, sometimes I'll see something I really like and store it in the back of my mind for future use. One of the reasons I love pinstriping so much is because nobody else knows if it turned out as I had originally intended or not, as long as any errors are mirrored then nobody notices haha! Stay safe, have fun and paint everything 👍
This panel is Alupanel, it's a sign making material that is made of 2 thin pieces of aluminium with a plastic center (like a plastic/aluminium sandwich). You should be able to find it at a sign making store or online somewhere. You don't really need anything special to practice on, an old piece of flat metal with a painted surface or an old car panel. Pretty much anything that will take enamel paint and you can hold still long enough can be pinstriped. Have fun and stay safe. Thank you for watching and for the question.
Thank you 👍 It’s really hard to get decent footage of pinstriping in action by myself, the camera and lights get in the way, shadows are cast everywhere, reflections are bad plus trying to get close it to the painting and not knocking the camera. All while trying to concentrate on the actual painting. I am trying to find better ways to film this stuff, I’ve just not found it yet. Thanks for the feedback 👍 Have fun 🤩
Hey painty, quick question , any non permanent pencils you suggest to lay out a design before striping it ? Is there like an all purpose pencil you'd use on all types of surfaces; metal, wood, glass etc ?
Hello, quick answer, yes. I use Staedtler Lumocolour Non Permanent Omnichrom Pencils now and sometimes use Stabilo all surface pencils. both of these wipe off with water or glass cleaner after the paint has dried. The trick is to only use the lightly, it makes clean up easier and doesn't seem to affect the enamel paint. I hope this helps. Have fun and thanks for watching 😎
You can practice on nearly anything, in most of these videos I'm using and material called Alupanel, it's used in the building trade as well as sign making. An old car panel, a sheet of tin/aluminium, a sheet of glass (in a frame) or something should be fine. Are these the ideas you're looking for or are you looking for something different? Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Have fun and thanks for watching.
Those are all great ideas im off for glass in a frame I been using the back of shreet signs but wanted a better idea of what else i can use that you for the reply and your videos are a great help

The only thing that is "rubbish " about this video is that I can't do anything close to it myself. Looks fantastic!
