    Hey Todd,,another lovely little village,,The use of this particular Bob song was totally inspired! Heading north. With Neenee. I loved it. The vids that you have both put up the last few days have been just flat out Excellent. I've been writing longer comments about Neenee's videos the last few. I hope she has understood what I wrote,,or you've helped interpret. The one with the two little boys singing about the bombs was heart wrenching. Thank you both for sharing the journey. I know this trip is you and Neenee's alone,,but you guys make me feel included,,like I'm helping choose the route. Just cool as all blue hell! Stay safe and healthy. Ttyl,,,Marlon

    Nice video! I passed through Nong Khiaw last December, after having cruised down the Nam Ou River from Muang Khua to Muang Ngoi for an overnight stay, then to Nong Khiaw to drive to Luang Prabang via Road #1C and Road #13. The village you stopped at before the Road #13/Road #1C junction may have been a Khmu village. After stopping at the Nam Thouam main market and continuing south on Road #13 in a rural area, our car broke down in a small village, and while waiting for a replacement car and driver, my guide and I walked through the village, which turn out to be Khmu. A local village woman gifted me some Phongsali style green lao-lao that her friend makes, when she saw that I had less than a finger of green lao-lao left from the small repurposed drinking water bottle of green lao-lao I bought at the Phongsali market two mornings prior. The owner of the Phongsali hotel makes her own white lao-lao as a hobby that is much stronger than normal (60% ABV/120 Proof!). When she saw my green lao-lao bottle that I bought before breakfast, she insisted that I try a shot of my green lao-lao first, then try her homemade lao-lao to compare and judge which was better. I had only eaten a fried egg with Maggi Seasoning Sauce and a little bread, and had not intended any ‘morning drinking’, so suffice it to say the two full shots of lao-lao (especially her’s!) gave me a nice buzz for my subsequent walk through the Phounoi village of Ban Komaen, and rough ride along Road #1B to Boun Neua for lunch, then continuing down Road #1B back through Bountai (our prior night’s stay), then along Road #2E to Muang Khua. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in northern Laos, especially visiting the Khmu, White Hmong, Akha Puli, Akha Chupia, Phounoi and Tai Deng ethnic villages, plus the Lao and Hmong private room full-body oil massages were very good and very cheap. I wish I could find lao-lao in the US, though at least I can buy Lao sai oua here. Cheers!

    Thats a shame about the dam as we were planning on getting one of the river boats to Luang Prabang. We are planning to head from Dien Ben Phui to Nong Khiaw. Top room on the river and we know we are staying now. Cheers ol mate.

    • @NowinLao
      @NowinLao  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You know in 2015, our first time traveling to Nong Khiaw we had the,same idea. We left our car in Luangprabang and caught a van up with all intentions of returning by boat.. the dam was only just started but the river was not safe to travel by boat anymore. We had to return by van 😔
      You can still travel upstream though to Muang Gnoi and further Pookey. I highly recommend it. With those mountains either side of the river its absolutely mystical 🙏

      @pookeyhutchison7838 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NowinLao Thanks for that Tod ol mate. You have me thinking now and I wonder if you can go by boat from Mang Khua stop overnight in Muang Gnoi . Then go on to Luang Prabang? You are right about Muang Gnoi as the cook and I checked out Muang Gnoi on google maps and the scenery is insane. Plenty of guest houses in both joints and we use them in all our travels in Vietnam and Cambodia. We have found that the more stars you stay in the less connected you are to the place you are in. We don,t spend enough time in our room to warrant it as we love exploring the joints we call into and have a chinwag to the locals. Cheers Tod.

      Have flown it under another in Vientiane and it spazzed out half way under, because of all the steel in the concrete i presume. Was lucky it never dived into the water. Steel messes with the signal, so as cool as it would look, it never crossed my mind to fly under this bridge as we still had a long way to go and many more drone opportunities.

    I know this is random but since you live in Laos, do you bet on the " numbers" too? It's something I grew up very confused about. Because of the language barrier it is still a mystery to me. I saw in a Laotian store there is a chart with certain animals with various numbers paired up with them, they watch the lottery on TV specifically Powerball or Pick 3, consult the animal chart and bet on a number of whatever animal it's under. All the Laotians I know bet on these..." Numbers"
