Today, our friend and Videographer, Ben has given us £2000 of his own money and tasked us with finding him a project car. Despite having spent the last 3 years filming us work on cars, he’s never even picked up a spanner, let alone owned his own project car.

That insurance quote I wonder what they would say if you said you put BC Racing Coilovers and a Scorpion Exhaust on it with a modified air intake and shift leaver. just asking as I have found them to be rather stupid recently. I also notice any carshop apart from Halfrauds has either vanished or everything is mail / pre-order.
What's your problem with the sponsor? Is there a bad dark reason we should know about?
or is it just your personal taste? If it's the latter, don't worry about it, as long as the lads are getting money to cover their wage and produce content at a profit for the company, I see it as a good thing.
I have no interest in hipster beers or many things channels are sponcerd by, but the majority of them are just other companies also trying to make it in this terrible economy we are in.

@@mclarenjohnf1just don't get in an accident. Being that this is so public, and their is always some jealous people, I can see this video making its way to the insurer, one way of another.
Given there are a number of channels now under the auto Alex umbrella, I'd assume they are looking at some form of trade insurance to try and cover all the employees on all of the vehicles. It could be subsidised by the company but you pay a nominal fee out of your wage. This could be a winner for all parties within the company. Maybe even the insurer could become a channel sponsor. A bit like MCM have with theirs.
It's defo something I'd have someone (cough ...Taylor) pursuing.

Those £30,000 insurance quotes are colloquially known in the insurance industry as "fuck off" quotes. AKA "fuck off we're not insuring you, unless you're daft enough to give us 30 grand"
In nz they just straight up tell you no 😂😅

@@jadenclemowyeah but some companies promise they will insure any car as some kind of tag line. So they price it so insanely high that even a billionaire with money to burn wouldn’t pay for it just to keep their tag line true lol. It’s so scummy. My insurance of my 1.6 a class went through the roof this year. 18+ years no claims discount with no claims and my insurance was higher than this dudes.
I suspect the quote they got was without declaring any of the modifications they intended to make. Having inside knowledge on insurance schemes and loading, I imagine adding the coil-overs and exhaust would probably take it back up to £30k 🙁

People who know nothing about cars will say "oh never get a European car for your first project" as if they think every european car is a C63 or M3 and needs a small army to work on them.

Never watched Car Throttle or whatever the channel was. But this channel here is top class.
honestly some of the CT stuff is good like rebuilding the old golf and Porsche or the camping trip its worth a watch!

Speaking of UK insurance being mental. I am also a young guy I live in a nice ish area so cars don’t get stolen here and my dad bought an M2 competition so for a laugh I got a quote on it. 1 came back for just over £56,000 a year 😂
And I thought it was bad in America

This is what car channels are supposed to be, it is amazing to see that sponsors are on board with your stuff from this early too.
Genuine interactions with some useful pointer sprayed here and there, Ben being an absolute chad and ending up with what I would say a "dream" first project car.

Ben needs to learn just how lucky he is to be working on his car in a garage with an actual lift. Most of us are on sloped driveways with wheel chocks and jack stands doing what work we can manage with only 20-ish inches of clearance.

I think the insurance costs is what kills younger people’s interest in cars. They end up driving around in a car with 0.9l engine that you can’t work on. My 16y old son and me have started restoring a manual 1997 V70 T5. He thinks it’s going to be his first car 🤣🤣🤣 good luck with that🤦♂️ I’m not paying his insurance.

This video brought me back to 2006 when me and a friend fitted a k&n induction kit on my 2001 Fiesta Zetec s, didn't have a clue what we were doing but its so much fun. Ben is a natural in front of the camera, great sense of humour. We need more of Ben!! My favourite channel on TH-cam without a doubt. Keep it up lads 👌👍
Love Ben's attitude, so pure and genuine! I would say it is even better to have someone who is willing to learn the basics in maintaining a car.
You can tell really Ben likes his new Clio. A few things that Ben needs to do as a new car owner. He needs to clean the air filter, change the transmission, differential oil and coolant. I would replace the brake fluid too.
Belts belts belts and probably dephaser, water pump while he's in there. Critical on these cars.

Think it's nice you left his mistakes in, shows what it is genuinely like starting out on cars. I've worked on a fair share of cars and I still make the mistakes shown in this video. Props to Ben for digging in and getting involved.

This was such a good episode. It reminds me of the first time I worked on my car. I had to figure it out myself as my Dad didn't know so it was just me and TH-cam. I'm really glad you guys could be there to inaugurate him.

This would make an amazing series for you guys. Viewers / fans give you how much money they have to buy a project car (they give you what they like and dislike or even buy the car with them) and then you teach and mentor them on their first ever day of working on their own projects. I’m sure companies would be dying to get involved with free parts to get their names out there with your side of TH-cam. Could even do it weekly! More likely monthly. It would be great for us beginner
In honesty I hadn't heard of Will before joining this channel, and I was a bit unsure of Edwin on CT, but this is rapidly becoming one of my favourite channels now. Guys are smashing it, great dynamic and content ❤
