$70 million he can get a great tax attorney to work on minimizing his taxes as much as possible. Why would he leave for any NBA job right now much less this one? He has a chance to get 3 NCAA titles in a row. That's legendary status. He is king of the NCAA basketball mountain right now plus why pick the NBA with it's ownership, players and union over a big state program such as Texas, LSU, Florida or UCLA which would give him total control over personnel, recruitment and running his team how he wants? Plus big programs can pay big money without the fear of being fired in 1 to 3 years.

With all the talk about "massive" and "compelling" offer, unless if Hurley had a Harbaugh level itch to coach in the pros, this wasn't nearly enough.

Just proof do what’s makes you happy and don’t let anyone dictate what your happiness is. Coach Hurley wanted to stay in Connecticut because he is happy there. People will tell you that taking a job like the LA Lakers HC is the dream job that’s what the public thinks but that didn’t pressure Coach Hurley into taking that job because that wasn’t what he wanted so more power to Coach Hurley by sticking to his guns.

He took the interview, didn't he? Either he went there with no intention to agree to coach them, possibly looking for leverage but why?; or he wanted to hear what authority he'd have and the compensation, and he said nope in response to what he heard. It's probably the later, lakers probably required input of their top players regarding the systems they run, and that he be open to them drafting Lebron's son.

@@dnice4145 of course he 1000% should take the interview in any situation or job profession you should always take an interview that can open up a new door. Doesn’t mean that’s what you want to do but you should never pass up an opportunity, b/c even if he didn’t wanna leave the college game because he likes being able to have control over the program or whatever it may be, you never know if you will be open to an idea if you get exposure to it. I believe Hurley was hand chosen by Lebron to coach Bronny after the Lakers draft him this year and he retires. He’s proven to be the best college coach, which Bronny needs but is forgoing for the NBA money. Hurley denying the job is both an affront to the Lakers and Lebron personally. Hurley had the opportunity to be mentioned with the greats of his profession. Imagine being the coach of a 40yr old Lebron who wins a title. You are legendary at that point after coaching high school just 11yrs earlier. Bottom line some men lack the courage to truly embark on being great in their chosen lot in life.
