And thank you for watching! I'm not a tech guy, so this isn't the most enlightening starlink video 😂 It answers most of the questions I had about the setup before I purchased it though!
People have already tested it with a usb-c bought on Amazon and it works fine. Running it on DC will also save you about 30% of the energy needed to convert to AC.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been holding off and dealing with a very weak cell signal for months trying to decide if I really need it in mid-British Columbia. I’ll be taking another look at it :)
Good call! I like the mini so far. If you have an extra $600, it's well worth it. Starlink will probably come out with some other groundbreaking tech in a few months or a year. Tech moves fast!
I was gonna ask what the unit cost, but looked it up on google, and it costs between $300 - $600 for the antenna part, then $50 to $150 for the subscription service. Good deal, Thank you for sharing!
That would have been a good thing to cover in the video! I got mine for $550 at home depot. I also just got an email from Starlink saying they have opened up an international plan for the mini! Developments happen fast in tech🤣
🤣 Maybe once we build our log mansion! And the sourdough pancakes will need to wait until a future trip.. I'll need to find a neighbor with some sourdough starter, or sneak some out of Japan.
Sounds Solid. I've had the round version of Starlink here in Australia for over a year now and it consumes about 130W which is bad because I use a Bluetti 200AP that will only run the Starlink for 24hours. Perhaps I should request and pay for an upgrade. I live off grid with nothing except for a landline from Telstra that took nearly 2 years to connect. Power is the biggest challenge.
At least you've had internet for over a year! If you wait another year or so, I'm sure Starlink will release an even smaller dish that is 3x faster with a cheaper service plan. The mini has been working great for me thus far! I also got an email from Starlink saying they have a few new service plans available for the mini, including international travel. More power to you being off grid in Australia! Power is always a problem. I would invest in a larger power bank and solar system if I were out here full time.
@@OhashiOutdoors Yeah, I do feel blessed with what I have with Starlink. I lent my dish to my neighbour (they were within the 10km radius of my first setup) and they paid for their own when I needed it back. Neighbours are very important when living off grid. I noticed today in your video that you had an increased step in your stride then I put it all together that you have had the opportunity to talk to your family and upload the videos due to the Mini. I'm 50yo and think that is cool. Let us viewers know how you recharge your batteries as I'm hell interested. Take care Ohashi.
@@chas2can124 You're a good neighbor! I was very happy having connectivity out there. As an introvert, I need time alone to recharge. The wilderness is the best place to do this in my opinion. Right?! I can stream movies, youtube, get emails, facetime with family, etc. It's done everything I need it to do out here, and more! Thats the second recommendation to do a live stream.. I need to do some research on live streams and do one; ideally out here. I don't want to be unprepared though!

@@ATH_Berkshire Will do! I have lots of time to research, I won't be out at the cabin again until next year. Thank you for all the great ideas and feedback!
You can just unplug the cable end from the Starlink power supply and plug the 5521 connector into your EcoFlow DC jack. You don't need buy any cables or run the AC Inverter. Dan
Good to know, I'll google what a 5521 connector is 😂 until then, I'm stuck using AC power. Thank you for the information, though! I will try to figure it out!
They released the Mini two months after I bought my full size gen 3. I would much rather have had the mini, might still pick one up eventually. I'd stick it on a little pole out on your dock to get it away from all those trees, as trees are the mortal enemy of starlink.
Getting a galvanized pole out here to make the mini more permanent while I'm out here is happening on the next trip! I've been taking it down every night so the critters don't think it's a chew toy. I highly recommend the mini! You could probably sell your Gen 3 and get a decent price for it.
It's only a matter of time. Starlink came out with an international roaming plan shortly after this video was posted. Hold out a few more months, and Canada is bound to have the mini, too!
Correct! You can see it in the box in the video, but I didn't cover it. Tech reviews and "unboxings" are not really my thing 😂 I'm just excited to have a starlink that fits in my backback and allows me to talk to my family back in Japan!!!
Yes. It's not much, but it's plenty for 10-14 day camping trips in remote locations! Unless you get rained in and stream 4K movies for several hours a day 😂 Thank you for watching!
@@OhashiOutdoors I appreciate you. I just got the standard with unlimited because I work on the computer. I recently bought land in Northern Maine and setting up camp and eventually building a cabin.
