    I think cutlasses/hangers/short-sabres/whatever are my favorite kind of sword, so this was especially fun. Great fencing!

    I wish cutlasses got more love in HEMA
    Maybe I hang out with the wrong crowd. Thanks for the video!

      Agreed, they still don't get much and there are very few training sword options, but its improving, they are great fun

    A cool study would be draw times in regards to the police 21 foot rule where you test the deployment speeds of swords with different hilts. Could even make it into an event where it's not over until either the defender or attacker recieve a propper hit.

      Absolutely we did already do this and they have been posted above. I certainly plan to do similar tests again though

      @@AcademyofHistoricalFencing awesome I'll check those out thanks! Also I invented my own sparring dummy that hits back suitable for saber or lighter. I want to share a how to build it vid with with the hema community soon. It might get 0 views since I have 0 video presence though.

      Oh nice, that sounds interesting. Post a link the YT video to the various HEMA groups, that will get it some attention.

    Fun fact,
    Pirates of the 18th century favored the cutlass due to its small size and short length. Easier mobility in tight spaces (aka the decks of a ship). 🏴‍☠️

    Is swordsmanship tiring?

    They seem quite long for a Cutlass

    • @AcademyofHistoricalFencing
      @AcademyofHistoricalFencing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cutlass was only used by one fighter (in red) in the second half of the video after they had to change from the sabre due to a breakage. It is an accurate reproduction of the famous British 1804 pattern cutlass, which had a 28-29" straight blade by regulation. Cutlasses weren't always as short as people imagine.
