First story, i'm sorry for OP the family is being choosing beggars but the principal was right to tell them before. NEVER EVER gift a pat as a christmas or general present without making sure the people that are getting it can fully care for it. and even then, a pet is not a present it's a long tought decision. If the people you want to gift a pet to are ok with it then take them to the shelter and let THEM pic a cat that works for them, don't impose a cat they know nothing about to them as well. Not every cat is right for every family.
THIS! My uncle and aunt lost their cat a couple of years ago and their adult daughters thought of getting their parents a new cat for Christmas. Here is how they did it right: 1. They asked if their parents would want a new cat in general. (They said yes.) 2. They found a notice online about a cat needing a new home after her owners couldn't keep her any longer. 3. They had a back up plan of the younger daughter taking the cat if the parents refuse. (She already had other cats and had room.) 4. They asked my uncle in private if he thinks she'd be welcome. (The surprise was mostly for my aunt, who was very sad and pining for a new cat.) It all worked out very well. The cat is happily being pampered as the only child in the house.
Exactly! I am against people giving living things to other people, plants included! (mostly because I hate taking care of them and they just die...). My 2 rules for gifts for me: Nothing alive and nothing with raisins. :D

I know some people see good breed cats as money bags because you can get a hefty amount from a rich person and this is actually a reason some people kidnap pets and for strays being trapped in homes Edit: all pets especially young ones are worth a hefty price and it’s possible to make a living breeding or kidnapping pets and selling them, however kidnappers generally treat them badly as they are an urban version of poachers

More so, a good shelter WILL NOT let you adopt for someone else. They want to know what kind of home the pet is going to and observe how the pet interacts with the adopting family.
This was about 10 years ago. My best friend and I were on our way back home from a concert. I was driving, friend was drinking so I was DD. We stop to get gas, it’s about 2am. This woman approaches me while my friend is getting something from inside. “Excuse me, is there anyway you could spare some money? My car ran out of gas and I need to pick my kids up from Keachi (very small town here in Louisiana). I gave her $5. All the cash I had on me. Friend comes out, we go home. 2 weeks later, this same woman comes in my work, I’m a waitress at a diner, and gives the same story. I just stared and said, “Ma’am, I gave you $5 a couple weeks ago. Please leave now.” That woman was arrested a few days later for drug possession. Sad.
As an overly helpful person I usually try to find an alternative to giving money, just in case they really need the kind of help they asked for. For example, if people ask me money for a bus ticket, I offer to walk with them to the bus and buy a ticket for them. 90% of them will refuse with some poor excuse. But I've met people who actually took that offer and really just needed the ticket. I've been stranded once myself, so I really want to help anyone in the same place.
@@Juubith95 Only problem with that is some of those 90% will often become hostile when you "doubt" them. I'd rather shut down everyone that risk getting in a confrontation.
There used to be this dude who would hang out in the parking lot of my work for a few days per year. He would wait for people to walk to their cars when he would frantically approach them, panicking and claiming that he didn’t really speak English and he needed money to bail his sister out of jail. It was the same schtick every time. We always had to warn the new people not to give him anything should they encounter him. It’s beyond pathetic that people feel the need to do things like this. Last I heard, someone threatened to beat his ass if they ever saw him there again. Haven’t seen him since.
something similar happened to me - it was summer, nice weather, small town with low fares - essentialy 0.61 euros to get all over city for half hour, someone walked to me and asked for some spare money for bus ticket, i told her i have only money for my own ticket, she started being fussy... i was young 18 college student, she was in her thirties - did she really think i own any money?

@@Ikajo ten cats? I could get far more than that from my local shelter, I got mine as a kitten for $25 and they covered getting him neutered and all his vaccines for life. I live in a rural area with too many cats as is they found it cheaper to have the fees cheap and cover the neutering than it was to let the owners decide not to neuter/ spay and get more cats in every spring

We have a local known homeless man, I refuse to give him anything after seeing someone hand him money and he threw it on the ground because it was change not bills.
Ngl I work a $14hr job and I still change out the left over change from the little penny dish out for bigger change or even cash if I can, to hear someone just throwing out change that can be saved saddens me 😔
A friend of mine quit her job because of how awful the management was, she was missing 2 paychecks. After a while the dickhead manager called her asking if she could work a couple shifts, obviously she said no XD. Best part is that the place got closed down, and good riddance, they were awful, literally had dead rats in the kitchen floor.
If management is that horrible, I have to wonder if your friend's former workplace was actually a front for organized crime. That would explain why she was treated horribly, and was missing 2 paychecks.
There's baking competitive shows where they make a wedding cake in a day. But even then they aren't that large and they have time to plan and design ahead of time, plus they rarely come out perfect, it's more of "lets see what you can do in x amount of time" plus it's usually a team and they may have planned for that specific competition for weeks in advance.
I LOVE that the teacher doesn't believe in shopping for pets. I rescued at risk and street dogs for a couple of years, and one of my fellow rescuers put it like this: for every dog bought from a breeder - even a "reputable" breeder - a dog is euthanized at a shelter. I wish I could convince everyone of that.
Surprise pets are one of the worst decisions ever made, even if the family was not in an unstable position from home loss. This is how a lot of animals end up dumped in shelters after Xmas, Easter, or birthdays. A pet owner needs to have the proper commitment and preparedness. Also, their cat died. Most pet owners feel their pet is family. They need time for the grieving process before feeling ready to accept a new animal family member.

I've only lost 2 cats in the last 3 years... one was a stray... who stayed alive for a month after I got her fixed. The other cat, died after her 15 birthday... so she had a great life, out living close to 10 other cats. Now down to 4 cats, all of whom are 10 to 13 years old.
How much do you wanna bet the bride in that post thought oh I know a cake decorator let me wait to last minute because there my friend. And yeah the editing does cut down a lot of the time that the baking in the cooling and the decorations take. It also seems like they wanted a free wedding cake.

One time this woman with her baby came up to my mom while her and my sister went to get their nails done. She told them this sob story about needing diapers. My mother said what brand I'll get them from the store nearby. She declined and later on the same woman with her daughters comes in the nail salon to get their nails done. Every time I hear that cat story in suprised that people don't actually take into account that the family just essentially lost a family member that OP is just trying to replace. For so many people pets are literally members of the family. They cannot just simply be replaced and people also need a chance to grieve. I understand that the teacher was trying to help but honestly everyone is wrong in that story. The teacher for just trying to replace the cat without knowing anything more as well as the fact that not only were they just gonna give the kid a cat without talking to the parents in the first place, they then planned to go ahead and do it anyway even when it was determined there may be issues. The parents for looking a gift horse in the mouth and demanding a $1000 cat. The parents are assholes but honestly the teacher has no right to take it upon themselves and decide this for someone else.
In my family it is said that we do not replace them, we take the love we had for one and put it in another. You cannot replace them, because each one is unique, but you can give that space to other who can need it. Now, if they don't have an estable home, it is kinda selfish...

I asked him why he was being so greedy about that and he told me, "I did that because she already bought another damn cat, I wanted to make it so she felt like I didn't deserve it. If I didn't do that then she would've pushed on me for 2 more years." So I really think the parents are doing the same thing

In the TV Comedy Series "M.A.S.H" they had a way to get back at an Entitled Person, Choosing Begger patient who didn't want blood transfusion from a coloured person. They painted his face with something to make it a darker colour and got everyone else to treat him a little more differently until he blew up and they explained how blood transfusions work and that it was a coloured person who invented the method. He was more polite after that.
That's an entirely different situation. These donor restrictions exist to prevent transmission of bloodborne pathogens by excluding high risk groups from donation. It's not just a matter of simple bigotry and easing the restrictions raises important medical and ethical questions including the matter of informed consent that was under discussion.

Ok when she mentioned the people on tv complete bigger cakes in shorter time I laughed out loud. Those people on tv she mentioned usually have tons of people helping out and most of it is time lapsed in order to fit it into the time allotted for their show. I've never had the opportunity to do this, but I've got my answer all ready: if somebody comes up to me at a gas station and asks for gas money, I'm going to say, "I'll do you one better: pull your car up here and I'll put a couple of gallons in it for you." If they really do need the gas, they'll be grateful for it.
5:15 I’ve had the completely opposite experience with homeless people...I was at university at midtown and a guy asked for money for food...I generally don’t just give people money (don’t want them to buy drugs/booze) so I offered to stand in line with him at the chipotle while he ordered...he was one of the nicest and most grateful people I’ve ever met (and we had a great conversation)

The first story. Wanting to give them a pet is truly just to help the kid out. Animals can help us and make us feel safe during our darkest times. If the family said what cat they wanted, im sure it was spoken to them first to make sure they would be able to care for the cat. Last one reminded me of a client I had when I worked in a salon years ago. I was one week postpartum and she somehow found my phone number calling me up baking me to do cut, color and style for her daughter's wedding that weekend. I bake cupcakes for my husbands office every year for the Holidays. It came up in conversation that my family owned a bakery for 30 years. My family and I went to Seattle for the day with my cousins from Pennsylvania and we just left one of the starbucks and a homeless dude approaches my dad, asking for money. My dad knows better and asks if he wanted a hot cup of coffee instead. Homeless guy was like no and my dad stood firm, and refused to offer him money. The dude walks away and comes back and asks for the coffee, which my dad gets him.
Honestly the dog Karen needs to get real, I used to cut my dogs fur all the time when she needed it, it's really not that difficult. Not to say it's not a worthwhile job, it IS time consuming, and I applaud anyone who has the energy to do that multiple times a day.
While I understand where you're coming from with the cat, my folks house also got hit by a tornado over the summer to the point where they had to move in with my grandma and I (long story but they brought the dog) but let me tell you having a pet helps A LOT with the stress of trying to get back on your feet

I hate when people with kids complain about how others without kids spend their money. For example, I'm from Mexico and Disney+ recently became available here, I wrote how excited I was for it in one of it's post and this woman came all crazy on me saying how l should pay her membership instead cause she had three kids and needed to keep them entertained since they weren't going to school, how I shouldn't get it because I was an adult and Disney was for kids and kept going on and on about how ungrateful I was for my extra money. See, typically people have this thing called house insurance which would allow them to get a new home and furniture and other essential items, but it doesn't leave much room for things like pets. Still doesn't change the fact that the parents were being super entitled.
This "I'm out of cash and need gas" is one of the most common scams pulled at gas stations. Had two rubes try it on me and others while pumping gas into my car, and I asked him to pull up to the pump and I'd FILL HIS TANK - AND HE REFUSED! He wanted DRUG MONEY, not gas, and the shop clerk called the cops while I was talking to the beggar. Cops pull up, handcuff BOTH guys and tow their pickup truck off somewhere. Apparently they'd been pulling this all over the area and the police were just hoping to catch them.
My mom is a dog/pet groomer and you wouldn't believe what kind of people there are out there with pets... One lady, not only came early, but also walked into our house, without knocking, as far as I know.... It's like, lady, my mom has a life outside of grooming...

Psychological support.There are actual studies, that point to comparable hardships being less devastating to people, who have pets, as they recover faster. That is also why so many homeless people have dogs. The increased expences are less valuable, than comfort a cat playing with you or sleeping on your back and, if you don't buy cat food, but let the cat have leftovers, it will not suffer, as long as this care doesn't take years, and save some money.
Why? If you trace all words, you'd be surprised. Social justice warriors are nuts. It isn't as if certain native American tribes never performed this violent act.

My favorite is I always see the one woman and it's always a new story, looking for money. 2 years ago it was, "I'm in between jobs. I wash cars and I don't get pay until next week. Do you have a few bucks so I can get some dinner for my kids?" I gave her a $5 and then I see her walking out of McDonalds eating her own meal. A year later, I see her again and it's a new story, and asking for money for dinner for her kids. I said no, b/c I honestly didn't have any. Then earlier this year I see her again in my work's parking lot. Asking money so she can get her kids dinner, a pizza. Um, wouldn't getting groceries be a better choice for dinner options?
Lmaoooo that last one with the string of comments about how ridiculous the CB was is exactly like what I experience as a veterinary receptionist 😂 a bunch of people who think it's crazy we can't fit them in for a last minute appointment when we often book out a week or two in advance, getting mad about wait times at the walk-in/urgent care clinic, refusing to leave a message and demanding to get a doctor on the phone when they're either seeing appointments or urgent care visits, refusing to pay for things that they approved of us doing because they signed off on the estimate which someone goes over completely with them... I got fired from a job for being unreliable because some shifts I'd come in and maybe have to leave early - because my mother was in a medically induced coma after her bowel ruptured and if I was leaving it was because I'd had the 'she's taken a turn for the worst, she may not live for much longer' I was pretty glad they fired me if that was how they treated staff.

A few weeks before the holidays this young girl was asking for donations at the exit of the supermarket, I did not have cash so I said "No sorry" and passed her, then noticed she had a bag at her feet with groceries, people were donating food items. Felt bad being closed to Christmas and turned around, I had two boxes of Ritz crackers so I was going to give her one. This was about 10 years ago. My best friend and I were on our way back home from a concert. I was driving, friend was drinking so I was DD. We stop to get gas, it’s about 2am. This woman approaches me while my friend is getting something from inside.
“Excuse me, is there anyway you could spare some money? My car ran out of gas and I need to pick my kids up from Keachi (very small town here in Louisiana). I gave her $5. All the cash I had on me. Friend comes out, we go home. 2 weeks later, this same woman comes in my work, I’m a waitress at a diner, and gives the same story. I just stared and said, “Ma’am, I gave you $5 a couple weeks ago. Please leave now.” That woman was arrested a few days later for drug possession. Sad.

As an overly helpful person I usually try to find an alternative to giving money, just in case they really need the kind of help they asked for. For example, if people ask me money for a bus ticket, I offer to walk with them to the bus and buy a ticket for them. 90% of them will refuse with some poor excuse. But I've met people who actually took that offer and really just needed the ticket. I've been stranded once myself, so I really want to help anyone in the same place.

There used to be this dude who would hang out in the parking lot of my work for a few days per year. He would wait for people to walk to their cars when he would frantically approach them, panicking and claiming that he didn’t really speak English and he needed money to bail his sister out of jail. It was the same schtick every time. We always had to warn the new people not to give him anything should they encounter him. It’s beyond pathetic that people feel the need to do things like this. Last I heard, someone threatened to beat his ass if they ever saw him there again. Haven’t seen him since.
something similar happened to me - it was summer, nice weather, small town with low fares - essentialy 0.61 euros to get all over city for half hour, someone walked to me and asked for some spare money for bus ticket, i told her i have only money for my own ticket, she started being fussy... i was young 18 college student, she was in her thirties - did she really think i own any money?

I live in a rural area with too many cats as is they found it cheaper to have the fees cheap and cover the neutering than it was to let the owners decide not to neuter/ spay and get more cats in every spring

There's baking competitive shows where they make a wedding cake in a day. But even then they aren't that large and they have time to plan and design ahead of time, plus they rarely come out perfect, it's more of "lets see what you can do in x amount of time" plus it's usually a team and they may have planned for that specific competition for weeks in advance.

I LOVE that the teacher doesn't believe in shopping for pets. I rescued at risk and street dogs for a couple of years, and one of my fellow rescuers put it like this: for every dog bought from a breeder - even a "reputable" breeder - a dog is euthanized at a shelter. I wish I could convince everyone of that.
Breeders should only be consulted if the pet is for a very specific task like a police or therapy dog
Surprise pets are one of the worst decisions ever made, even if the family was not in an unstable position from home loss. This is how a lot of animals end up dumped in shelters after Xmas, Easter, or birthdays. A pet owner needs to have the proper commitment and preparedness.
Also, their cat died. Most pet owners feel their pet is family. They need time for the grieving process before feeling ready to accept a new animal family member.

Fortunately... I've only lost 2 cats in the last 3 years... one was a stray... who stayed alive for a month after I got her fixed. The other cat, died after her 15 birthday... so she had a great life, out living close to 10 other cats. Now down to 4 cats, all of whom are 10 to 13 years old.

They painted his face with something to make it a darker colour and got everyone else to treat him a little more differently until he blew up and they explained how blood transfusions work and that it was a coloured person who invented the method. He was more polite after that.

I've never had the opportunity to do this, but I've got my answer all ready: if somebody comes up to me at a gas station and asks for gas money, I'm going to say, "I'll do you one better: pull your car up here and I'll put a couple of gallons in it for you." If they really do need the gas, they'll be grateful for it.

The first story. Wanting to give them a pet is truly just to help the kid out. Animals can help us and make us feel safe during our darkest times. If the family said what cat they wanted, im sure it was spoken to them first to make sure they would be able to care for the cat. Last one reminded me of a client I had when I worked in a salon years ago. I was one week postpartum and she somehow found my phone number calling me up baking me to do cut, color and style for her daughter's wedding that weekend. My family and I went to Seattle for the day with my cousins from Pennsylvania and we just left one of the starbucks and a homeless dude approaches my dad, asking for money. My dad knows better and asks if he wanted a hot cup of coffee instead. Homeless guy was like no and my dad stood firm, and refused to offer him money. The dude walks away and comes back and asks for the coffee, which my dad gets him.
Honestly the dog Karen needs to get real, I used to cut my dogs fur all the time when she needed it, it's really not that difficult.
Not to say it's not a worthwhile job, it IS time consuming, and I applaud anyone who has the energy to do that multiple times a day.

While I understand where you're coming from with the cat, my folks house also got hit by a tornado over the summer to the point where they had to move in with my grandma and I (long story but they brought the dog) but let me tell you having a pet helps A LOT with the stress of trying to get back on your feet

I hate when people with kids complain about how others without kids spend their money. For example, I'm from Mexico and Disney+ recently became available here, I wrote how excited I was for it in one of it's post and this woman came all crazy on me saying how l should pay her membership instead cause she had three kids and needed to keep them entertained since they weren't going to school, how I shouldn't get it because I was an adult and Disney was for kids and kept going on and on about how ungrateful I was for my extra money.
I didn't even say I would get it, I just said i was excited and got this woman's bitching
See, typically people have this thing called house insurance which would allow them to get a new home and furniture and other essential items, but it doesn't leave much room for things like pets. Still doesn't change the fact that the parents were being super entitled.
This "I'm out of cash and need gas" is one of the most common scams pulled at gas stations. Had two rubes try it on me and others while pumping gas into my car, and I asked him to pull up to the pump and I'd FILL HIS TANK - AND HE REFUSED! He wanted DRUG MONEY, not gas, and the shop clerk called the cops while I was talking to the beggar. Cops pull up, handcuff BOTH guys and tow their pickup truck off somewhere. Apparently they'd been pulling this all over the area and the police were just hoping to catch them.

My mom is a dog/pet groomer and you wouldn't believe what kind of people there are out there with pets... One lady, not only came early, but also walked into our house, without knocking, as far as I know.... It's like, lady, my mom has a life outside of grooming...

Oh man! Choosing Beggars! I have so many stories for this Subreddit! My favorite is I always see the one woman and it's always a new story, looking for money. 2 years ago it was, "I'm in between jobs. I wash cars and I don't get pay until next week. Do you have a few bucks so I can get some dinner for my kids?" I gave her a $5 and then I see her walking out of McDonalds eating her own meal. A year later, I see her again and it's a new story, and asking for money for dinner for her kids. I said no, b/c I honestly didn't have any. Then earlier this year I see her again in my work's parking lot. Asking money so she can get her kids dinner, a pizza. Um, wouldn't getting groceries be a better choice for dinner options?

Lmaoooo that last one with the string of comments about how ridiculous the CB was is exactly like what I experience as a veterinary receptionist 😂 a bunch of people who think it's crazy we can't fit them in for a last minute appointment when we often book out a week or two in advance, getting mad about wait times at the walk-in/urgent care clinic, refusing to leave a message and demanding to get a doctor on the phone when they're either seeing appointments or urgent care visits, refusing to pay for things that they approved of us doing because they signed off on the estimate which someone goes over completely with them... And don't even get me started on the breeder clients. I'm crazy about my dog, but not to the point where I'll drive other people who provide her the care she needs crazy lol

A few weeks before the holidays this young girl was asking for donations at the exit of the supermarket, I did not have cash so I said "No sorry" and passed her, then noticed she had a bag at her feet with groceries, people were donating food items. Felt bad being closed to Christmas and turned around, I had two boxes of Ritz crackers so I was going to give her one. She said "Oh I don't eat that brand, I eat X brand" I said "OK" and left to my car, when I got there I just thought of choosing beggars could not help my self and burst laughing NO CRACKERS FOR YOU!
