    how to remove a rounded allen key head bolt
    how to remove a allen key head bolt with out rounding it
    how to stop losing your tools inside the gear box
    and lot more
    A dry sump is a lubricating motor oil management method for four-stroke and large two-stroke piston internal combustion engines that uses external pumps and a secondary external reservoir for oil, as compared to a conventional wet sump system.
    Four-stroke engines are both lubricated and cooled by oil which is circulated throughout the engine feeding the various bearings and other moving parts of the engine; and thereafter allowed to drain to the sump at the base of the engine under gravity. In most production automobiles, which use a wet sump system, this oil is simply collected in a 3 to 10 litres (0.66 to 2.20 imp gal; 0.79 to 2.64 US gal) capacity pan at the base of the engine, known as the oil sump (or oil pan in American English), where it is circulated back through the engine by an oil pump drawing, or "scavenging" from the sump's reservoir. This pump is mounted internally to the engine and is typically driven by the camshaft.
    In a dry sump, the oil still falls to the base of the engine, but rather than being allowed to collect in a reservoir style oil sump it falls into a much shallower sump where it is removed by one or more externally mounted scavenge pumps and is pumped into an external reservoir where it is both cooled and deaerated. These pumps are typically belt-driven from the front or back of the crankshaft. Oil is then drawn from this reservoir by the pressure pump and circulated through the engine. Typical dry sump systems have the pressure pump and scavenge pumps mounted on a common shaft so that one pulley at the front of the system can run as many pumps as required by the design of the engine. It is common practice to have one scavenge pump per crankcase section and in the case of a V-type engine an additional scavenge pump to remove oil being fed to the valve gear. Therefore, a V-8 engine would have five scavenge pumps and a pressure pump in the pump "stack".

    I don't know what car this was, but all I can say is that you are truly a genuine caring human being. Man you have so much life and maxi. Good on you. It is very neat to see someone as happy in what you do in life as you are!
    I hope all is well

    If you've got a few longer bolts with the same thread, cut the heads off and thread them into the holes. Then slide your sump on using the bolts as a guide, it then lines up perfectly first time. Get a few standard bolts in, then remove the long ones :)

    Why don't you just remove the obsticle being the exhaust
    That's lash loads on and when you tighten the sealant will squeeze inwards creating a silicone rope that will loosen into the sump eventually getting sucked into the strainer oil lifter causing oil starvation hence waste of time blown engine never mind you struggling with sump round exhaust removing sealant from an area that you never noticed causing a leak later some pressure builds up in the sump

    The sump screws at the gearbox end are a problem to remove. The ball-head Allen key is not working, and the gearbox to block plate/gasket is in the way of a 'straight' Allen key. tips and tricks are welcome. I'm close to cutting the sump into bits

      You are forgetting an important parts when I tell the customer the price for the job and then if I take off especially exhaust bolts if things start breaking and the price goes up the customer is not very happy in the real world I know what you are saying but it doesn't always work out that way practical how would you feel if someone gave you a price and gave you a call and the price tripled

    I've got the 1.6l fsi engine. can the sump be removed without taking off the exhaust on that model too?

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nathan Soper if your exhaust goes underneath the sump then yes it will get in the way and take some of the sealer off and it will leak just easier to take it off but just be careful as you can snap bolts you're damned if you do and your damned if you don't

  • @rob8758

      Ah ok that's fair enough. I'd be doing it on axle stands so I dno if I'll have enough room. Also I read somewhere about disconnecting a drive shaft for some reason. Doesn't look as though you need to.

      Hi mate if the engine is seized there is no way to turn it check the big end bearings first there's two bolts for each person disconnect all bolts and then try and turn it if the engine turns when you have a problem your big end bearings unfortunate your engine is seized it can be very expensive to sort out

    It is a very good and useful video. Our POLO 1.4 from 2002 has the same oil pan. THANK YOU for showing how to put in the 2 screws into the deep holes next to the transmission. It was a horrible job for me. I could put into their place only one of them, hopefully it is not a problem. Maybe next time it will be in my garage I will try again.

    hi on a z16xep 1.6 twinport astra sump is it the same to seal it and also on the side that goes onto the clutch gearbox side do I put a bit of sealer on there also as I totally cleaned my sump in and out and there was a bit of sealer on it when I removed it
    is have Loctite 5920 copper silicone high temperature is that OK to use
    1 more thing my low level oil sensor broke so I got another one but the cable inside the sump is a bit smaller than needed to get it to sit on correct bracket
    if I cut the cable and extend it enough what can I use to seal the cable and cover it to protect it from the oil and temperature it will be inside the sump
    I thought of using heat shrink but don't know what kind I need
    I only have to extend it a inch rather than spending £70 on another sensors if safe to do so
    thanks

      @bodgitandleggitgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      paul mason hi mate as long as you feel what was originally sealed make sure everything is nice and clean you will not have a problem as your regards you're sensor you will have to buy the proper one for it I don't know of anything you can use to seal it if you cut it eventually even if you manage to seal it will not last by the proper want you will have no problem
