Hey Everyone! Thanks for all the likes, views, and (constructive) comments. Posting this since this got more views than I expected. For those who are new to the channel just a couple quick points for engagement in the comments: 1) don't be a troll. its a waste of your time and I'm just going to delete and move on with my day and 2) please interact and be kind with others voicing their thoughts. we build community by talking with each other Also, respectfully, for everyone who keeps saying "oh i just stumbled into Rank 10/11. how is it a grind?? you should shutup"...Well buddy, noone stumbles into a solo dungeon completion, a master lost sector, or completing EVERY raid in the game. Nice try tho.
14:26 I really enjoy helping people from LFGs as well. Usually if I’m free and I’m looking through LFG and I see someone needs help I join and help. I remember way back when the original Whisper and Outbreak missions released I have extremely fond memories of helping a bunch of people complete the mission for their first times. It’s a lot of fun and very gratifying.
I’ve been watching you for about a year and u made so much progress in your content quality. Trust me, keep doing it bro, you will reach so much potential with it
Yeah I hear that and I address that more in detail my first two videos that I referenced in this video but that still (IMO) moreso applies to veteran/experienced players and doesn't fully meet the original goals of the system. (Not asking in an antagonizing/trolling way just genuinely curious) Do you feel like the system in its current state meets your expectations of what a progression system could/should be in a RPG?
One thing that would improve the system for me is: only knock your gaurdian rank down one or two levels per season. I understand the point of removing the ranks to ensure people are fresh, but going from 11 to 5 is just so annoying. Make it go like 11-9-7-5 so if i take a year break, yeah I have to show my skill again, but im not going from "I iusy soled the latest dungeon", to "can you do the seasonal story?"
To level up now is almost impossible too. They took away all the nice easy pinnacles you could do. Every week I used to do 3 strikes ,3 gambit and 3 crucible runs and I would get 3 level up pinnacle drops felt like I was actually getting somewhere. Now ! I have been it seems like forever and getting nowhere all drops are at the same level. I know I can do other harder stuff to get pinnacles but the 3 run was so nice. I also don't feel like spending my life in front of a computer playing a stupid game.
Can't you just do heroic nightfalls for exotic engrams which are at most likely, 1809? I dunno but being one to even five levels off of the pinnacle cap really doesn't really matter most of the time. At least to me.
Appreciate this comment, the replies below, and for taking the time to view! I really feel like it would be cool (maybe not practical development wise) if the higher your rank that better the drop rate you got or something like the less activities you have to run for pinnacles. It might not be feasible in practice for the game but in theory it would sound nice if the system was "at Rank 10/11 reduced requirement for ritual activities and increased drop rate for new seasonal catalysts" or something like that, you know.
Good video! A little criticism if you don't mind? It may be my TV but the audio is a little low, I'd recommend maybe playing around with it as I had to blast my volume up to hear you properly. In regards to Guardian ranks, yeah, they're not a show of skill at all. I'm no DPS monster when I play and honestly I don't enjoy LFGing for raids, but I'm by no means a bad player. I'd argue I'm probably a good bit above average (based on my experience when I do LFG) but I'm almost always the lowest guardian rank. In some ways though I'm glad for this, because any elitism on the matter can be ignored, but I also know Bungie can do better.
I actually like the idea of an ‘11 only’ lfg, because I don’t want to play with them. They are either actually elite players that want to do elite strategies (speed running or lowman), or douchebags that think they are elite. Either way, I prefer a more laid back team rather than anyone with a ‘11’s only’ mindset
Exactly. Having an experienced team is sooo nice if folks aren't toxic. A raid run where everyone is chill, experienced, we 1-2 phase every boss and get out is *chef kiss*. I think you said it perfectly though with the "11s only mindset". That sense of elitism, to me, is harmful to the game and the community.
I think Guardian Ranks should act more like titles. As they are now, they act as a sort of "catch-all" system for the pve content in the game. However, just plainly adding pvp to it would have the same issue in the opposite direction. There should be some way to distinguish between someone who's really good at raiding, and someone who's really good at teaching raids; both players should be rewarded. There should be a way to distinguish between a control warrior, and a weekly flawless player. Guardian Ranks do little more than tell you how long you've been playing the game, and there's already light level for that. They also fail to say what kind of player you are; titles fail this as well, which is why I think there's some wiggle room. I think commendations could be tied to guardian ranks if we tie them to specific things in game. For example, if you're in a raid with at least 5 more clears than 3 or more other players (and they don't have 5), then players can give you certain "sherpa" commendations (i.e "patient", "knowledgeable", "stalwort") and those can count towards the specific rank- or title or whatever. A similar thing can be done for flawless in trials, if you are the only person flawless, or there's some combination of flawless and not in your team, then you have access to different commendations depending on the role. I think this not only revitalizes the point of the guardian ranks (what kind and caliber player you are), but it also repurposes commendations (they actually tell you about a player). We're really close to something fantastic, and I really feel like it's just a few tweaks away.
Love this answer and really appreciate you taking the time to view the video and write out this thoughtful response. I definitely agree that the system has SO much potential and some tweaks, like you mentioned above, could really infuse some purpose and value into the system
Everyone's rank in game resets. Your "Rank 10" icon showing on your character is showing you reached Rank 10 in a previous season not the current season yet. You can check out Bungie's website, or my previous videos I referenced in this video, if you would like more details on how that functions. Thanks for taking the time to view the content.
one critique i have of the system is that i think it should reset anually but have more ranks, i understand the reason behind keeping it fresh and reseting so you dont have players that havent played in years at gr 11 bur seasonally feels too often, and as the year progresses just have it so the higher grs unlock with requirements such as master reprised raids and such
Yeah, the reset is a huge setback for me personally. I wouldnt mind a reset after each new DLC but each season feels like a time suck to me. That said, if it was a reset ever DLC I think the system would need more rank (maybe to Rank 15) and more challenging triumphs to actually test your skills.
I think guardian ranks are very helpful. They act as a good roadmap for goals or achievements. It gives me a checklists to do. I've reached GR 11 every season this expansion and I both cheese content and solo flawless stuff(dungeons and GMs). I'm definitely not a DPS monster, but thats not my strength, and I'm ok with that. I love having more of a support role in raids, and I consider myself to be pretty damn good on comms and explaining encounters. I really think it's a small percentage of GR 11 players that are douche bags or simply get carried or cheese their way up. And let's get real: whoever does Riven from LW legit regularly or doesn't farm Shuro-chi without cheesing it is an effing liar. Cheese will always be part of the game, it doesn't make you any less of a player. Is Guardian Ranks a perfect measuring tool to qualify a player's skill? No. Is DPS or kill count the perfect measuring tool for skill? Definitely not IMO. Everyone has a different way of playing the game and it's a larger group of factors that show skill. At the end of the day, "When you know, you know". Good video!
I think you just talked some sense into me, my dear friend, cause I can't stand those pointless, soulless ccommodations! I might hit folks who helped out in no way whatsoever with the "thoughtful" commendation... because I'm petty. Great video, and much love to you!
Thank for taking the time and energy to view friend! And honestly, you know this from previous videos, folks should play how they want to play but also remember most things in this game have not gotten better without the community providing some constructive critique and asking for improvements.
There is literally nothing guardian ranks give you other than a number. Guardian ranks need actual cosmetic rewards. Something, anything! Im not doing a bunch of shit i dont feel like doing just to get a number above my head. Perfect opportunity for Bungie to bring back exotic class items. Titles and Ranks need cosmetic rewards
Everytime I run into a LVL 11 I out DPS them and they don't even have triple hundred builds and they usually suck so bad in crucible granted I'm at 200 plus flawless
@@Nutlessmonkey515 I love the idea of this but doubt Bungie would ever offer silver since they've never done it for anything else in game. But great brainstorming nonetheless.
IMO guardian ranks should be harder once you pass that initial threshold. solo flawlessing dungeons, GMs, master raid challenges, flawless raids should all be part of that upper echelon for people to chase. But tying a reward to that that shows that status other than "11" would be great. Emblems, weapons, god-tier stat roll armor, etc.
I actually love this. I never really thought about an emblem but am now wondering if Rank 11 could get the Ascendant Rank treatment from Comp. So something like an emblem, transmat effect, and some other perks worth the time investment would be a nice start.
Can't be bothered with the commendations, most people don't hand them out anyway so it kinda turns into a hassle. Only reason to ever get to rank 11 will be fireteam finder requirements if people set it high but ehh... pointless.
Yeah, i didnt want to spend too much time ranting about it but my concern about "Rank 9 or above" or "Rank 11s only" seems like it might end up getting worse over time. I'm not against folks having an accomplishments to be proud of in game (as long as youre not toxic about it) but I do feel like the challenge/requirements could have more structure.
I care about playable content not pointless ranking nonsense. Who actually gives a shit, honestly lol. How about more pvp maps, more strikes, real content, not more bullshit like this atrocious and pointless garbage of guardian ranks and accommodations. How many devs wasted their time on this vomit lol
Yeah, I feel like higher challenge + something to cement the accomplishment might make it worth grinding again. Someone else in the comments actually suggested a Rank 11 specific emblem and I honestly wouldn't mind that + some other perks.
Yeah I think its a hard selling point. Its not my personal viewpoint since most content in game is PVE and the state of PVP is not good but definitely something that has come up from other creators.
Lol, grinding?????? Just playing the game gets you to 11. Im confused why any1 thinks doing that stuff is a grind. If you play the game, it all comes naturally.
Only comes naturally if you play everything in the game. Which is not worth it at this point especially each season. But it's obvious you don't factor in people playing things differently.
But not everyone plays like you, bro. I think that’s the part you aren’t grasping. It requires multiple interactions with the same event. More than the average player gives time to it.

I just end getting all of these without trying, by the time rank 11 is available I have it almost immediately just because it really doesn't take much

to be fair pinnacle level also hasnt increased in like 2 seasons so if you earn the pinnacle level you keep it for the entire year
