I went through this in 2021. One thing to watch out for is automated resume review systems. They tend to search your resume for keywords defined by the employer, and no matter how amazing you and your experience are, if you don't have those particular keywords in your resume, it will never be seen by an actual human. I made a basic resume and then tailored a top level section to each job posting. Making that change got me from literally zero interviews to about 50%. And don't do easy apply if you can avoid it. Apply through the employer's website and if possible, always write a cover letter. Sorry if this is all obvious stuff, but I feel like I wasted so much time before figuring these bits out. Best of luck and keep us posted!
This is super helpful! I appreciate it, and I’m sure other jobseekers looking at this comment will appreciate it too.
I really want to transition into IT from doing factory work. I would think that maybe you can use your experience in Singapore to your advantage. Good luck Emily!
I had to do this in early 2023, I thought it would be easy like 2021 and before. Took me months to get an offer, had to take a big pay cut too.
