"optical monogamy is not for me" pure gold!! 🤣
You're easily amused I think 🙄
Good info here. This is the 3rd review I have watched, and no tone has mentioned the leaf shutter in the X100VI. Huge difference. Thanks
I agree. This is the main reason I think the X100VI is more discrete.
You can assign a dial for film sims in the x100v/vi. For example I assign the manual focus ring.
Just one point that everyone seems to miss, on both the x-t30 and the x100vi I am able to enable swipe gestures and swipe to one side on the lcd screen to get the film sims to show up. On the x100vi there is also a button on the front lever that changes what the zoom ring does on the lens, and you can switch it to change the film sims. So it's not necessary to go into the menu at all.
Thanks for the tip.
@@olivierlabuse I agree, but maybe that would be to close to the X-T5. Fujifilm must have thought, give the target group of the X-T50 users, a different dial, a different experience? I actually, wouldn't change the film sim too much. Make a choice for a photo or video session and don't change it (during the session).
XS20 vs XT50?
X-T5!
Excellent video 😊!
Really clear and well presented video - thank you. You’ve another subscriber. I own an X100V and an XT-5. This new X-T50 seems a nice compromise for those who don’t need the weather sealing, bigger battery, portrait flip-out screen, or dual card slots. For proper grab and go shooting, I love my X100V, which has the advantage of a neat in-built ND filter and useful little flash (which I think is also present on the X-T50). I’m keen to see how the new kit lens performs against the venerable 18-55…
Who doesn't need all those things?
great video, thank you.
Great review. I owned the Fuji X100 and X100S. I had the X100S for 11 years and the shutter button eventually broke. Fuji couldn't fix it. I loved the X100s. My only gripe is I found myself shooting more product photography and portraits than I thought I would and the 23 mm lens was vexing. The XT50 would've solved this issue and if I were buying a Fuji today, I too would choose the XT50. I, however, chose to switch systems and I bought a Sony A7IV, for the better low light performance, interchangeable lenses, and because I'm investing in Profoto off-camera lighting. It's expensive and I said, might as well go full frame.
Excellent initial look at the camera. Waiting for your full production model review. Just a question, you ‘bought' the lenses so you own them, or you ‘brought' the lenses with you and have to return them?
Very good video. Kudos!
Thank you.
I think this is a great addition to the range of X-T cameras, i think the film simulation dial is a great feature when you consider what it is doing, (the digital equvalent of switching a roll of film as easily as switching shutter speed). If i didn't use an X-T5 already, it would certainly tempt me, being an interchangeable lens camera that can have a similar form factor to the 100vi but also allows you to dabble in wildlife or macro etc. (with the right lens), it is a gateway into fujis lens system. I also can't blame fujifilm for the pricing strategy, the rate at which the x100vi is selling it apears they may have priced that camera as a bargain (same too for the X-T5). I am also envious of the built-in flash.
Best XT50 review so far
Thank you!
They need a new pancake 23mm option.
That would be nice.
I enjoyed this review since I lived in Cape Town for 13 years. I am waiting for my XT50 and can’t wait. I agree - I want interchangeable lenses.
Excellent video. Nice explanation 👍
Thanks!
Excellent video mate. By the end I could think of anything u hadn’t covered !! Also some nice images … (I guess being pre-prod, it not been declared, but an idea of the price; even below or above the ‘6’ wood hv been useful ..), 👍👍
I didn’t have any pricing information at the time I made this video, but the X-T50 body is £1299 UK / $1399 US.
Great video for the obvious Fuji reasons, but also because my wife and I literally just got back from our first visit to SA, Cape Town specifically, and we visited all of the places you visited in the video including that awesome coffee shop. Cheers! :-). - At least it looked like Truth Coffee.
Yes it was Truth Coffee. Cape Town is fantastic, I hope you had a great time there.
how about putting electronic variable NDs in the new to come XH bodies
I really like your camera/body with lenses comparison. That was a nice touch. Disagree with your take on the videography aspects. Didnt give it a fair shake, considering IBIS and 10bit 6.2k is absolutely gorgeous 😻 TH-cam videos of it in action. Incredible.
Thanks. I didn’t say you couldn’t shoot decent video with it. You can, and I did. But neither camera is really intended for this purpose, and the video functionality is somewhat hidden - unlike the X-S20 which Fujifilm lent me especially to shoot this video on. But I agree that the quality of the video is great.
Very nice enjoyable and informative video with a very calm tone and beautiful scenery. Unfortunately, the camera is not weather sealed which is a negative for me.
Thanks very much!
So not so travel king at all (plus enormous price hike from predecessor )
I'm trying to decide between these two, and the compactness of the x100vi is the main draw for me. Is there a pancake lens that would be comparable to the x100vi lens that would produce similar pictures but be about the same size? I'm obviously new to photography, so please excuse my ignorance when it comes to lenses.
Can you take pictures, and then later change them into the film sims later in camera?
I use a Pentax now but am looking at the Fujifilm line, and i dont edit onnky computer really at all, I DO however use some in camera JPEG stuff tonkake black and white, sepia toned looks, amd such...
Right now I have my eye on the X-S10 , for the flippy screen and using it for making some videos...
Liked and subbed, cheers
Yes you can, as long as you also shoot in raw. I made a short on exactly how to do that which you can watch here: th-cam.com/users/shortsoDfus_LiFjk?si=pSv7CZfVG8Xlg2RU
What, no mention of the leaf shutter on the X-100?? and ND filter??
Compare three 4O MP cameras: XT50 USD 1400, Nikon Z7ii USD 2000 & Sony a7Riii USD 2000 = no brainer 😊!
My X-T20 leaves this thing for dust. The X-T20 gives me rapid one touch access to a range of functions via the D-Pad (film sims, recipes, ISO, focus point) and the drive dial (Bracketing, CL, CH), as well as stock stuff via fn buttons (SS, Aperture, Exposure Comp). Without the drive dial, D-Pad and ability to customise the film sim dial for recipes, I lose most of this one-touch functionality.
Meanwhile influencers masquerading as reviewers are wetting themselves over an unnecessary increase in megapixels. While studiously ignoring the significant reduction in functionality for enthusiastic JPEG shooters such as myself, who Fuji have kicked in the nuts and clearly have abandoned as a target customer group. And we are expected to swallow the lie that this is progress, whilst paying through the nose for the ‘privilege’.
You're so full of shit. First opportunity to get one on MPB or KEH, you'll have one.
Agree I have the XT-20 too. Won’t be upgrading to this newer model with unnecessary megapixels and way overpriced.
x-t20 owner here. i still absolutely love this thing. no need to upgrade for me
@@lordofgonzo
Indeed.
Translation: I want the X-T50 but can't afford it so will make myself feel better by whining.
I think the reason people like the x100vi is it’s just single set up u stress just one length and you don’t have to carry anything extra.
Le X100VI est un peu le Leica du pauvre mais rien a voir avec un Q3!
Ce XT 50 me paraît formidable par sa polyvalence et sa compacité.
I really want a review of that new kit lens. It looks more serious than the older 16-50 3.5. V2 Which is a very good versatile lens. It was also macro, and had stabilization.. If the top left wheel is for film or video sims, where's the ISO? Is that programmable to the front or rear wheel? And if you shoot raw, which is why you want this higher megapixel camera, you'll be picking your son in post.
Content on the new kit lens coming soon! ISO can be changed through the electronic dial on the front of the camera.
I think that's on my take to WOMAD festival list. Bit lighter than my X-T4. So yes, I think I'll buy it.
I’ll stick with my X100VI thanks - if only for the optical finder 👍❤🎉
can you set all customs sim recipes to the new dial?
From what I’ve seen in other reviews you can’t. You can only add existing film sims to FS1-3 but not recipes. I hope this is something they add in a future firmware release.
No. Fuji is clearly abandoning its loyal base and pitching for the Instagram crowd.
what a bummer. c1-c7 would be way more usable with just a software update, and amateur users could have same default sims there as now
Merci beaucoup.
I'm trying to weigh up whether to buy one to use when I already have the x-t5.
I'm rather comparing if I should get the x-t5 or this x-t50. Why you wanna buy additionally the x-t50 if you already have the x-t5? I'm very curious.
@@EinfachDennis123Because camera gear addiction is like a disease.
@rogerwalton8160
The X100VI would better compliment the X-T5. More expensive of course.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc Why? Literally the same software. Just put a 23mm pancake on the X-T5 and it's the same camera.
@@Wordsalad69420
No it isn't, the X00VI is smaller, lighter and has an OVF, leaf shutter and flash. It is 23mm f/2 not a 27mm f/2.8.
The price though.
Can you tweak recipes in simulation and save?
Apparently no…..
No
"Can you tweak recipes in simulation and save?"
Depends what you mean, you can of course save recipes in custom slots as with any other Fuji.
You can not assign those to the dial FS 1, 2 or 3 positions though.
The price and lack of weather sealing ...
Not sure if you mentioned it, but the xt50 is not Weather sealed
I assumed that to be the case but I didn't mention it because we were given almost no information about the camera at the time, apart from what I mentioned in the video.
I find the X-Txx bodies to be too small for me. I think the X-Tx bodies are the sweet spot for a travel camera, for me.
X-T50, don't forget you're ND filters on sunny days,
Shouldnt a travel camera be weather sealed?
It should.
Depends where you're going. Living in the UK, if I want bad weather I'll just stay at home. I travel to get away from it! 🌴😎
Definitely should be. Imagine phones now without water protection?
Do need a X-T50 ?no! do I want it ? Yes
Using 18mm f2 is much smaller
The XT20 and XT30 prices used to be quite reasonable compared to their more powerful brothers, but the XT50 is just not worth it. For a few hundred more pick up an XT5
Higher cost, greater weight, larger size. What is it that people like you don't understand about this?
Sorry but the Zf now wears that crown. 😊
The Zf is a great camera (I took one to Shanghai) but its twice the size and weight of the XT50, with a comparable lens. That may or not be an issue for travelling, depending on the individual photographer.
Fujifilm is good at marketing, but has a very poor supply chain. Who knows when or if anyone will be able to buy this? Fujifilm is vaporware.
It's body is smaller than the x100vi yet even the pancake lens make it twice as long.
Poor battery & Old school EVF .........
Why not just buy an X-T5 for an almost negligible difference of $200?
Because there is a price difference, which means you can buy a lens. Then there is the size and weight, missing the point of the smaller, lighter, X-T50.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc It is smaller, but only weighs 3.6 oz less, 0.23" less in length, 0.3" less in width, 0.58" less in height. My only question is whether that significant enough to accept the compromises.
It feels substantially smaller and lighter in the hand, and if you don't need weather-proofing, twin card slots and the other additional features of the X-T5 then why spend the extra money and carry the extra bulk?
@@hpaula1946
You miss the point, to *YOU* the difference is acceptable, but it isn't to others. It is literally the point of the X-Txx line!
If they actually gave us an ISO dial instead of a dumbass film sim dial, I might be interested
The X-Txx has never had an ISO dial. That Film Simulation dial is going to sell a lot of them.
@@JackBurton-qp4hc but think about how much better they would handle if they DID have ISO dials.
@@brennanprobst1795
The command dial does ISO. If you use Auto ISO and have the aperture and shutter set, the EC dial becomes ISO too.
