The fact that she learned this in 1 hour and 11 minutes, and only made very few mistakes, is so impressive
I think it's not the first time that she studies it. It's impossible to be at this level and never played this waltz before! Perhaps it's been a lot time since she played it. She also has a video with this challenge with "alla turka". Could it be the first time that she plays "alla turka", at this level? (sorry for my English, it's not my language)
@@penkal1981 I m pretty sure this is not impossible. Of course you have to be a great piano player to sucess playing this piece with so little time, but i think too that others pianists can play it better at the first try with better reading skills than she has. By the way, im really impressed by Annique's performance :)

Hello, I need your advice. I'm learning this piece currently and I realized recently that the mordents on the first page (measure 10, etc.) are played differently by different people. For instance, on measure 10 I would assume it would be played FE EFE D E (EFE is the mordent) but some versions are played FE EFEF D E or other notes. A mordent is just that note and the note above it, right? (It's not inverted or anything).
This Waltz is also known as "Valse du petit chien" (Waltz of the little dog), and it's said that #Chopin got inspiration to compose this piece when he saw a puppy chasing his own tail. Many of his pieces are sad and melancholic, but this one just brightens up my day.

No lol he wrote this piece because his girlfriend George saw a dog and said "if I was as talented as you id write a piece of music about that dog" so he did as he loved her he didn't even like the piece lol

I learned this song a couple of months ago, definitively not in 1 hr, and definitively not to your precision. However, it's humbling and humanizing to see a professional pianist work through the song and notice we actually share some of the same struggles and pitfalls on it. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more videos like this.

This piece was the first proper classical piece I learned. (Literally started learning it cause I heard it on one of those Sony electric piano’s demos that I used to have at my holiday house as a kid). I stopped taking actual piano lessons at a very low grade so this took me ages to learn properly, and it’s my go to piece when I want to impress people.....

This specific Waltz reminds me so much of my childhood. My parents didn't have enough money for a real piano so I got a little keyboard and it had 99 different piano pieces saved to listen to and practice and this one was one of them. I loved it so much and still gives me that comforting childhood feeling ♥️ my favourite Waltz of #Chopin
Recently I fell in love with Chopin's music. I've been a guitarist (mostly metal and classical guitar) for 14 years. I've been also playing some keyboard for years (mostly Queen). But Chopin is another league... A month and a half I started learning Minute Waltz and Nocturne op. 9 no 2. A week ago I discovered your channel and you became my inspiration to keep practising Chopin more and more. I've made a lot of progress in the last month and a half. And thanks to you, I fell in love with Chopin's music even more and you inspired me to never give up practising. It's also amazing to see you learning this piece almost perfectly in just a little over an hour. I am so impressed! I will definitely stay tuned. Cheers from Poland!
I like how #Chopin always creates a really unique atmosphere in his pieces, whether it be cozy or really nerve-racking. It's just so unique that not many composers can do. He also created a repertoire that still is a crucial part of piano playing which is amazing to think about, and it covers a huge portion of human emotions. He is just so sincere, we truly get to catch a glimpse into his heart.
Omg! You are soo talented! Im stunned with how fast you managed to learn this masterpiece. Nobody at my church was able to play this song on my grandpas funeral despite they had 2 weeks preparation. I would have hired you directly as pianist!
Still remember vivid to this day when I got a book with a cassettetape included about Chopins life. It was 1 hour with some of his pieces while a narrator talked about Chopins life and what he went through while writing some of his master pieces. Knowing some of the stuff he dealt with in his life gives extra depth to how wonderful and amazing his talent was. Listening to you play Chopin is really a joy, thanks for sharing. #Chopin

Chopin’s music is ‘bittersweet’.. it sounds happy but you can still hear the pain.. his music is very satisfying… it gives a sense of peace while listening to it.. Chopin once said, “I wish I could throw off the thoughts which poison my happiness, but I take a kind of pleasure in indulging them.”.. this quoted my life!.... how could a 19th century romantic piano composer know how to make his music reach a random teenager?? Annique - you are obviously a fantastic pianist, and make great videos! I do struggle with one thing on your channel, so many of the pieces in your 1-10-60 challenges are ones that practically EVERY pianist tackles during their journey (not to mention an accomplished pianist like yourself) - have you really never played pieces such as the minute waltz, ronda alla turca, fantasie impromptu etc. and are encountering the sheet music for the first time in these videos? It would blow my mind if that's the case.
That is a good question. It's quite possible not to have played these pieces she is still young and the piano repertoire is big. Now is there one or two pieces here and there that she might have sight readed long ago but never learned, possibly but i doubt it. Her first reading tends to show she has never seen the score before.

Yup it is but it’s all down to experience and practice! Spend as much time on piano like she did and you’ll definitely be able to reach this height too. Still truly impressive how she was able to play that well in a hour.

When I was little, I had an electronic keyboard that had this piece programmed into it as a 'demo'. Back then, I used to pretend to play it for fun, believing it was impossible for a human to play. Here I am now nearly 20 years later, and seeing you play it brings back so many memories. However, what really moves me is the thought of how far I've come. Not only is this piece possible, but I have been able to play it for quite some time now.
As for #Chopin in general, I really enjoy the diversity of emotion that his music contains. I find that no matter the what time or how I'm feeling, I am able to find a piece to play or listen too that reflects it.

Since i started to love piano #Chopin was my favourite suddenly, i really love the way his music is composed because he was able to perform perfectly the human feelings, is beatiful to know how music can describe people nature and chopin was a genius of this, that's why they called him "The piano poet".

I absolutely adore #Chopin waltzes. I've learnt 3 so far, and my fav of them has to be Op. 69 no.1. I just adore how Chopin's writing allows you to make the piano sing, and the emotion that can be evoked through his writing is always so powerful.
I tried to learn this and gave up. Lack of mastery of the black keys at a fast tempo did me in. It’s amazing how fast she learns these difficult pieces!!

chopin's work is what brought me to really like classical music the artistocrat nature of it all and the feelings he brings to the pieces. when over a decade ago a game came out on the xbox 360 called eternal sonata i was just in love with it all, it's about chopin on his deathbed imagining a fantasy world where you play as chopin in a rpg style it's such an underrated game and helped me appreciate chopin even more

i love how this waltz doesn't stick to the usual 'norms' of a waltz. it has a tempo that you couldn't dance to, what waltzes are usually written for. #Chopin

THIS TOOK ME 2 MONTHS OF CONSISTENT PRACTICE AND SEEING HER ALMOST SIGHTREAD IT AND GET IT ALMOST LEARNED IN AN HOUR IS JS WOWW 🎉
One of the key points which many forget is that, in this piece, it is important to get the left hand solidly mastered. This creates a support the right hand needed. Bring out the bass notes. The ABRSM edition has a pretty different interpretation than what you used, especially for section B. Instead of having 2 turns, it has the first being a grace note and the 2nd time as a turn. You pedalled beautifully. Most who played this often over pedalled. You were right I'm saying this is not meant to be dance (by humans, at least,...maybe a dog which is chasing after its own tail).
I'm still a beginner in classical piano and #Chopin has always inspired me to look deeper into the music im playing, one piece being this waltz with it's beautiful mood he can give to the listener

My Mom was a piano teacher in Taiwan and I remember she had these old school music scores with composers faces on them, there were #Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy, amongst others. But I clearly remember the #Chopin score being worn down and flimsy compared to the others. Never played this piece before, but when I think of #Chopin and listen to #Chopin, it just reminds me of my Mom.

My mom played piano and taught adults and kids to play classical pieces and she majored in piano , minored in voice in conservatory of Music in Manila, Philippines.. all her young and adult life she wanted to be a piano teacher… now she’s 73 years old and started playing again after 25 years without playing…😮 I’m so happy to listen to her get back to her timeless Chopin, Mozart,Debussy Tchaikovsky, Beethoven…etc.appreciate it more now than I’m older🎹🎶

Favourite thing about this piece: the right-hand phrasing is so unique and hard to get right, but when the pianist can make it flow it's beautiful (as with so much #Chopin)

Chopin is a really unique composer because when you show his music to a some stranger that has nothing to do with classical music that person somehow loves the music. It is not coincidence. Feeling, listenin Chopin's music is so different. He has a unique voice which is so similar to life itself.

Chopin waltzes are calming and have their own complex at the same time. Since I started playing some of #Chopin 's waltzes I found a comfort place, feeling a mix of melancholy and brightness.

All Chopin’s waltzes are so spectacular but this one specially seems to try to create beauty in every second of it, quickly but taking care of every single note and sensation! I love iit #Chopin
I loved this performance! Since you were limited in your practice on this piece, you naturally took the tempo a bit slower than it is often played. At the slightly slower tempo, i can more readily distinguish the notes and hear the details Chopin included, making for a richer listening experience. I would love to hear many concert pianists take a bit of speed off of their performances. I find the results can often be more musical, if perhaps less athletic.
#Chopin has made some of the most technically difficult pieces of all time. It has taken me months to learn the first 60 seconds of fantaisie impromptu at half speed 😫. Love your videos btw

#Chopin what I really love about him is the variety he has in his compositions, his Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Etudes, Concertos, all are with different emotions, and it takes a great player to learn the different techniques, emotions of each piece, I especially love his Mazurkas which are very difficult to play musically, this helps pianists create their own interpretation and it will be a new colour to the song everytime you hear it. His compositions can be noble, emotional, triumphant and more, not just the technical difficulties he has written and people like him for that, he really understood music, and this makes him my favourite composer/pianist. Love from India and hope you are safe :))))

This waltz sounds like some chasing games is going on and on. Seems like whenever u reach the top note, the person is almost being touched but actually not yet. Chopin is a great philosopher in music, his music can touch my heart.
