  • here is a video showing how to make a PVC Cache. Using a PVC tube to make a storage device that can be buried, hidden or sunk in water to obscure and hide prepper and survival gear.

Should prime and glue both mating surfaces, then assemble and twist to seat the joint.

It's good practice to glue both the fitting and the pipe to get a proper seal

yes, agree. I don't remember weather I did that, haven't watched that video in a while. Thanks for the comment.

I just picked up a 10ft, 6 in pvc pipe (where I went they only sell them in 10ft lengths, not sure if that’s the standard everywhere). I will be doing a few of these. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the couplings that would allow me to to add the female and male pieces to unscrew, so I’m stuck having to make my cache with two end caps. That means I’ll have to use a hacksaw to get it open when I finally need it. Not the end of the world, but I would have liked a screw cap on one end.

fantastic. Its great that your working on some. I have these scattered over half the state I live in. North to South and a few West. The East side of the state I don't really have many. Even experimented with sinking a few in some Reservoirs and Rivers. Lost a couple due to floods and I think one dislodged, the rocks I used I think got moved somehow. Anyway they do work well submerged as well.

Bentley's Backwoods Bushcraft so do I have to worry at all about condensation inside the tube itself? I plan on putting a few rifles and ammo in one of the caches, and another I will fill with foods. I don’t know much about pvc as I said before, but I know that the type I have is “schedule 40.” Is schedule 40 the best to use for these caches? Thanks for any and all feedback, I appreciate your prompt response on my last comment.

Bentley's Backwoods Bushcraft ok so maybe you might not know the difference about what is so special about schedule 40 pvc. Maybe I can put my question like this: with ANY of your caches, have you ever had an issue with condensation???? Especially with the ones you have cached underwater.

Are there any issues or concerns about moisture collecting inside the pipe due to temperature changes

I can say that I have not had any issues. I have used them, mainly in woodlands and no issues at all. I even dropped one to the bottom of a creek and tossed rocks on top, even that one didn't get moisture collecting.

Does the threaded part have an o-ring or do you have to use pipe dope or glue on the threads to seal it and if you have to use that how hard is it to get it off once that's glued looks like that nuts pretty big should be able to break it loose perhaps any idea

It screws on quite well. I have had no issues with it.

    What was the total cost?

    • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think I spent about 20 dollars, but I went out and paid for most this for the purpose of doing it. Most of the time I use recovered or repurposed items. Most hasn't cost me more than a few dollars over all.

      Bentley's Backwoods Bushcraft
      6"x10 ft schedule 40 (cellular core) 1 pipe. = $25.98
      6" caps = $12.99 apiece
Roughly $53.00 plus tax for one cache not including primer and cement, at menards.
      Well worth the money.

Couldn’t you just use 2x 4 inch drain cap instead?
