Birmimgham. A real walkable city. Europeans love it because it reminds them of home.

I’m in Beverly Hills now. Love it. Lived in Birmingham and Bloomfield. I’d pick Birmingham due to parking in a city and tons to do.

I have built dozens of houses in the $2-$5 million dollar range in both communities. I have lived here my whole life, for decades in Bloomfield and Birmingham. I prefer Birmingham because I can walk everywhere. Theaters, restaurants, shops, doctor’s offices. There are 22 parks in Birmingham. Art Fairs, concerts in the park, carnivals, car shows, winter fest and so much more. My only complaint is the property taxes are too high.

As a newly retired teacher, I can tell you to take school ratings with a grain of salt. It boils down to rich areas have kids whose parents care a lot about education. This translates to higher scores on standardized tests, which plays a big part when evaluating schools. These ratings always change, as well. Birmingham should not be anywhere near #2. They don’t offer a TAG (talented and gifted) program. Any really solid school district is going to offer this.

You’re right about parents that are almost all college graduates emphasizing education to their children. You could take the entire teaching staff from Waterford and put them in Birmingham and the students would be just as excellent as they are now. I come from a family of educators, my wife is a former Teacher of the Year and school Principal. I am a former Volunteer of the Year in Birmingham schools and we were very happy with the education she got. She took multiple AP classes and was challenged as were her peers who went on to prestigious universities just like she did. Anyway claiming Birmingham schools are not good are flat out wrong.
By age 23 my daughter had 4 degrees including a Masters from Michigan’s Ross Business School, but the foundation was laid by our local Birmingham school district.

Birmingham prices have been and are only getting more clinically INSANE and the lots have been tiny and continually shrinking to 40’ wide for years now. You have to be NUTS rich and NUTS period to pay those prices for the zero-lot-lined McMansions on those trailer sized properties.
