    BEARHAWK LIFE DISCLAIMER:
    I am a 900+ hour pilot with various ratings including instrument, commercial, multi-engine instrument, CFI, CFII. Those ratings were obtained YEARS ago and do not suggest that I am an expert today. The purpose of these videos is to 1) share my experience building an experimental amateur built aircraft, 2) promote the most underrated, under-promoted Bearhawk back country utility taildragger aircraft in the world. Recording the building and flying help me with self analysis for my own personal improvement. Nothing in these videos should be taken as absolute fact and are not intended to replace professional guidance from a A&P, AI CFI... Feedback is invited; however please keep it positive.

    Rob - Can you share where you bought the “Piper Cowl Latches”? Also would love to see how you mounted your inertial reels for your shoulder harnesses.

    • @TheBaldPilot
      @TheBaldPilot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bought the cowling latches on eBay. They come and go from random sellers. Just do a search for "Piper Cowling Latch Kit Complete with Lock" and see what comes up.
      I don't like how I installed the inertia reels. I took u-bolts and clamped to the tube directly behind the pilot / co-pilot seats. If I were to do it over, I would weld a small plate to that same tube before I installed the fabric interior liner.

    That cowling fits so tight I can barely tell where the nose bowl ends and the cowling begins. At least on my phone. Nice work Rob!

    Looking good. It looks too tall for the garage. How do you keep it secure?

    • @TheBaldPilot
      @TheBaldPilot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Simon! It rolls in and out of the garage everyday with 1/2" top clearance to spare. It stays secured behind the garage door every night.

    Very nice! Two things Rob: you talked about the cowling support I hope you did not cut away too much of the extruded angle. second, the Lexan sky lite. I like it very much however Lexan does NOT do well with fuel. Good Luck! Stinger

    • @TheBaldPilot
      @TheBaldPilot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you cannot see is a doubler that runs along the inside where I trimmed away any of the side angles. I try to explain everything, but sometimes leave stuff out. Plus I try not to get too "technical" for casual observers. Thanks for the comments!

    I have been watching pretty much since the beginning and if you feel comfortable my question is what is your experience in aircraft? Many of your deductions seem to be made on years of experience. Example in this video the prop spinner to the cowling taking in that the engine will sag on the rubber. Having worked on aircraft and flown them for the last 50 years or so, that kind of deduction only comes with much experience. Can you elaborate on yours?

      Been around airplanes my entire life. Grandfather was a pilot, Dad was a pilot. Cousin is A&P. Received my PPL in 1987. Worked as a CFI for a University for several years. Lived in Wyoming and Idaho where I learned to proficiently fly taildraggers towing gliders and in the back country. My best friend there was an A&P. Another family friend restored a P-51A from the ground up. Then watched him do the same to a Beech Stagerwing. I read. I listen. I watch. Everyday I do something relating to building my airplane and aviation in general. However, I am not an A&P and did not build my professional career in aviation (as much as I wanted to). Thanks for watching!

    What nosebowl is this? The Rb aircraft one? Cheers

      @@TheBaldPilot thanks! Is it a 13” spinner? Looks great. The Pitts uses the same nosebowl so I’m just looking at options. Wings are coming along quickly, great work!

      @@spmckendry Thanks! I don't know what spinner it is. The spinner came with the Trailblazer prop from Hartzell.
