I guessed Blanche Devereaux and now for the first time realize what a master of parody Rue McClanahan was. Her real name was french for street for petes sakes
How does that make her a “master of parody”? First of all, she was not named for the French word “rue” meaning “street.” Rheua (actually Rheua-Nell) was her mother’s middle name, which her parents adapted to be part of her first name. Her full first name was Eddi-Rue, but she shortened it because people who only saw it in print thought it was a man’s name. She even got a notice that she’d been drafted because of it. Second, the character she played on “The Golden Girls” was already named Blanche Devereaux long before McClanahan got the part. During casting she originally read for the part of Rose, not Blanche. Although Blanche Devereaux was modeled after Blanche DuBois, whatever tenuous connection you are trying to draw between the character Blanche DuBois and the actress Rue McClanahan is pure coincidence, at best, not some masterfully concocted arrangement.
@drewconway7135 eh, im just finding frivolous connections, engaging in hyperbole and so on… Thanks for sharing some Blanche facts though, Golden Girls forever 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
I never feel like I understand wagers that aren’t all in, enough to cover double second place or zeroes, definitely a weak spot of mine…but tonight’s wagers were baffling to me
The middle wager made sense, usually no point in going all in as you're setting yourself up for failure if you both get it wrong AND if you get it wrong you can't cover the winner. As for the champion, she just had no faith in herself since she had never gotten any FJ correct.
I’m not even sure how Ashley managed to win her 4th game. Even though the correct wager she was supposed to do was $12,401 to cover Jasmine if she risked everything.
Definitely a calculated move. Most would wager such that a correct answer guarantees victory, but it's also sensible to wager small enough to still likely win if only you are correct or all three are wrong, or if all are correct and 2nd and 3rd bet small
Final Jeopardy Clue: 3.5 Stars/5 - Better Double Jeopardy clue - Required specific information - Fun factor missing. (More than one way to arrive at solution. ) The color reference helped. Hence, the extra half star.
She will be in a TOC now that she's at 4 wins. The TOC has always filled spots with 4 game winners, and they need to do so even more with there being more spots than there used to be. However, I don't know if she'll be in this season's or the next one. That said, if she's in the one coming up, she won't have enough time to rectify her glaring weakness of vulnerable FJ wagering. She would have lost on this question if Jasmine had bet the farm. She got lucky that she was up against a player who didn't hear Ken's disclaimer at the start of Monday's show (visible to them at taping). Jasmine made an excellent bet in 99% of situations - that wager covers Mark and wins in a triple stumper (her range was $4801 to $5399). But this is in the 1% where the champ bets to cover *this* wager, and thus all it takes is someone paying attention to take advantage of that.
I hope she doesn't. She doesn't deserve it. This is the first FJ that she has gotten right and she never bets enough to cover. She has been winning these games because her opponents can't answer the FJ either.
Ashley is officially eligible for the 33rd TOC in 2026, but with 21-27 spots since 2022, I think Ashley will officially qualified for the 33rd edition.
@@Socialdogma So if she won, that means she wagered enough to win, which means it wasn't poor wagering...do I have to literally spell it out for you? 🙄

I genuinely kept going back and forth between the two names because I couldn't remember which character was from the play and which was a Golden Girl!

These contestants are not like James Holzhauer but then again James is a gambler.
I agree. These were bizarre wagers that didn’t make sense to me. But the champ won again so good for her, I guess.
No confidence in herself
The other one I'd add to the list is "enough to cover 1st place's current total"

I arrived at the answer by racking my brain for words for "white" in other languages.
Me too, but I ended up with Alba.....Tross? and couldn't shake it
Congrats, Ash - you're almost TOC bound!
I knew my high school French class from 50years ago would come in handy some day. 😊
I would not have gotten this one in a million years.
ngl, it’s been about thirteen years since I first heard about that character, but I remembered enough to get it right.
Yay me. 😄
All I hear is Woody Allen in Sleeper.
I’m not even sure how Ashley managed to win her 4th game.

100%
one more win then she's in the ToC

Her chances of winning 4 games where she led in all of them but never wagered enough to cover and missed 3 out of 4 FJs.....Not very high at all
Took French in school during the 1980s. Made some use of it tonight.
Theater nerd, I got this so fast. 😊

I think Ashley should be on the next Tournament of Champions.

"Like an orchard in Spring..."
The government did it for $500 bob! “In 1963 who was the real assassinator for President JFK?” - “who is the Government” THAT IS CORRECT💯
Could only get the first name and the play but notthe last name
Thank you, high school French class... Blanche Dubois
I hope that Ashley goes to the tournament of champions tomorrow

Had it
White woods in meaning "the whiteness of the trees" (because that's what literally "Blanche DuBois" is)
If the clue would've stated what language, I would've gotten it
You and me... we had this date from the beginning.
Ashley is a keeper..cute and smart 😘
She performs poorly on the geography categories though
