- This Is The Place was the first song the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote for By The Way. They rarely played it live (27 times according to RHCP live archive). I've seen them play this song in Rotterdam on March 19, 2003, the same gig where they played Warm Tape!

By The Way has always been my favorite album. It's so rich. And I feel John really perfected what I call the "John Choir" on this album as heard on the bridge of this song.
I really like John’s vocals on Dosed!
Man that solo combined with Johns vocals is just chaos and only 5 notes! Nailed it.
Love your covers, man. I really appreciate how you disclose all the pedals and amps settings, especially in the effect heavy songs. How do you set the panning on the amps?
That kinda depends on the song. For this one it’s Major 30% left, Silver Jubilee 30% right. Sometimes I put them both in the middle and sometimes it’s hard left and hard right.
@@RedHotChiliRiffsDo you get into some phase cancelation issues when blending the amps? I can't get them to sound centered.

I never understood why they don't play this song along with many others of this caliber...Savior, Minor thing, Venice queen, This velvet glove could be such a refreshment to their almost boring setlist, also considering they are now 2 years on tour...I saw them in budapest in 2022 and I don't really think I will go any time soon :/ thank you for reminding everyone of these deep cuts

absolutely spot on as always!! how do you get on with that bass preamp? i (and many others) found it to be very loud even before boosting the EQ on the Fender Active Jazz. All I know of the settings Flea uses is from a rig rundown where Tracy says "boosted bass quite a bit and treble rolled off quite a bit"
I think the output is way too loud on the Fender Active Jazz Bass. I always use a dbx 160A compressor between my bass and my amp too match the levels of my different basses. I don’t compress the signal too much (the ratio is only 2:1) but I adjust the output level on the dbx for every bass.

whats does mean with "phase to the Marshall Major", I don't understand very well when they say "...in-phase"... so. Marshall amps are everytime in "in-phase" that it required to "invert phase"?
The Major is out of phase with the Silver Jubilee so if I don’t invert the phase on the Major the sound becomes very thin when I combine the two amps.

The bassline being repetitive is something that Flea probably disliked, because he didn't like how John limited his creativity during the recording of BTW.
Could be. This Is The Place and Don’t Forget Me aren’t the typical Flea bass parts. If you listen to Aquatic Mouth Dance you can hear all these variations while the main riff is the same throughout the entire song. I think that’s more Flea’s style.
Na flea loves hypnotic bass parts. Especially if it's good enough to repeat lol just like Don't Forget Me.

It’s a Am11. The notes in the chord are D-A-G-C-E. The guitar is tuned to drop-d.
