Not a prisoner, but former corrections officer. One of my first days on the floor, an inmate received news that his oldest child had taken his own life. The other officers just said to ignore him while he was pressing the late night button to get someone, anyone really, to talk to him or give him the mental health form. Going against my Lt, I grabbed a form and went in the pod where I talked to him before giving him the form. I also noted in our systems that a cellmate was recommended. The next time I went into that pod, he thanked me for showing a bit of compassion even though he was in there as an inmate

I want to thank you too. I've never been to jail, but if I were locked in a cage at one of the most horrible moments of my life personally, I'd want to know someone still saw me and cared about me. Thank you for being a good human even in a really tough place.

@believeroftheword4627 My thought process was that even if they did something against the law, they were still humans at the end of the day. Sometimes compassion being shown to someone in a situation where they end up in prison could maybe help them turn their life around when they get out.

@@TheOmegaXicorI agree with it being BS. What even is zoo food? Packages can say animal feed grade, n tbh animal grade doesn't necessarily mean it's not edible, just that it's leftovers from processing human grade food, or for meats- say for beef an older milk cow was used for the meat. Human grade beef usually means the cow was 1-3 years old and of a breed that's bulkier and purposely grown for meat production. For animal feed, it's likely a commercial milk cow, it means the cow was too old to produce enough milk for commercial profit and was likely around 7, so the meat is more chewy and an average beef consumer would say that meat was pretty bad.
Speaking of beef, if you see veal be sold, it's basically guaranteed a male baby cow.

Saddest thing I saw.. multiple times, was guards in groups beat inmates inside their cells relentlessly, then allow them no medical attention. I, myself, was beaten by Rafael Moreno in tarrant county jail. He broke my ribs, my cheekbone and gave me nerve and brain damage. I was left coughing up blood in my cell. They didn't stop there. They took everything out of my cell including my mattress. I had to sleep sitting up on concrete as it was far too painful to lay down in any position on the hard concrete. My ribs were broken on the left side and trying to lay down popped a rib out of place on my right side. They then did not feed me for five days and turned my water off for three days.
Last week, Moreno was indicted for murdering an inmate by kneeling on an inmate who'd been pepper sprayed and the combination of that and his 300lbs caused the inmate to die from asphyxiation. One internet search will bring it up first result.
Tarrant County Jail is corrupt and wicked. They have two entire floors they specifically place inmates in so that they can be abused horribly by guards.

Oh man that sounds absolutely horrible, I'm a major trauma/neurosurgery nurse and broken ribs are one of the most painful injuries. If you don't mind sharing and know why the hell did he do it to you? Hope you are better now (including mentally).

    • @SoldierOftheKingofkings
      @SoldierOftheKingofkings หลายเดือนก่อน +14

I never asked him why he did it. The guards seemed to pick people at random. They beat up one guy we already felt sorry for. This one inmate never spoke. He had nothing in his cell but a mattress. No spoon or cup to eat and drink with. In the six months I was in that pod, he was never once allowed out of his cell. One day his sister came to visit him and the guards asked him if he wanted to see her, knowing he doesn't ever talk. Since he didn't respond they denied him his visit. They beat him up pretty badly.
It's been about three years since my attack. Yes, broken ribs are horrible. I remember desperately wanting to sleep but every time I would doze off my body would slouch and the pain would jolt me awake. The left side of my face, from slightly above my eye down to about my mouth was numb for about a year. Feeling slowly came back and now if I press on that area it'll sometimes create a sensation all around my eye that the best way I can describe it is like an itch that disappears as soon as I remove the pressure. I'm trying to recreate the sensation now and can't although it happened the other night. It has healed a lot.
As for the brain damage, which they refused to even do any testing and I discovered I had later.. the jail's solution was to give me a large dosage of anti-psychotics which was an absolute nightmare. It helped me sleep and at the time I wasn't aware that I was being given a poison that depletes the body of dopamine, causing complete misery, and has an even worse withdrawal period that lasted several months. Zyprexa was the drug if you're curious. Nightmare stuff. Anhedonia makes life torture.
So yes, praise God. As far as I can tell I am healed up and back to normal. =)

One of the girls that was released had such a bad homelife, food insecurity, filth, and in a really bad area. After 1 month, she took a large rock, threw it through the window of a Jewelry store and just waited for cops to come and arrest her. She just couldn't take the filth and the lack of food, a bed to sleep in and the lack of a routine and told the other inmates on her return that she just needed to go "Home, " home being the youth prison facility.

He's told me hundreds of messed up stories based on his experiences over the course of years because he wanted us kids to stay out of serious trouble. The saddest one he told me was how when he was in a stent at the juvenile detention facility, there was this guy who took my dad's lunch right off of his tray. Dad's cellmate looked at my dad and said something to the effect of "You'd really let him have that?" And then stood up and hit the theif over the head with his lunch tray. He took my dad's lunch and the other guy's lunch and he and my dad split it. The other guy who got wacked was laying on the ground the entire lunch, and my dad never got messed with again thanks to his friend. But he said it messed him up to see several guards just leave the guy there.

Former small town CO, and I have 3 that come to mind.
    1) A 50 M with the mental capacity of a 8yo was arrested as part of a drug bust. The dealers would 'pay' him with bags of junk food to deliver the stuff for them. His mother, a nearly 80 F, was jumping through hoops to get him released, but he had the crappy lawyer. He had memory problems, and would forget when he just ate or would be asking him for snacks all the time. After three months, his health got worse, so the Capt pulled some strings with the DA and had him sent to get evaluated and his charges dismissed. Even the dealer admitted he had nothing to do with the dealings, he just wanted the snacks.
    2) 30 M who sister (a nurse) would pay for him to stay in the only motel in town and bought him food to last a week. All while pocketing his disability check. Like the other guy, he had mental issues and was not all there. One day he ran out of food and walked across the street to the grocery store shop lifted some food. After a long game of telephone, we got a hold of his sister, who refused to bond him out, and his case worker. He also got the same crappy lawyer. Lucky for him though, that lawyer was running for election in her home county, and she passed on her cases to a newly graduated lawyer. That guy took one look at his case and got it dismissed. Two weeks later, and he's back. Same charges after sister dumped him back in the motel. This time, when the lawyer got the charges dropped, she refused to get him. And the motel had banned him. After working it out with case worker, he was taken to a shelter a county over. The sister only called us later to get paperwork so she could restart his disability check.
    3) My rookie year, a 40 F, schizophreic whose family refused to take her to Dr for her meds was brought in. She started having violent episodes, attacking her family and they called the police. Instead of getting her help, they wanted to press charges. In the 3 days she was in jail, she would go from calm to violent. Even taking a swing at me, breaking my glasses, and another CO. Monday, we finally get ahold of her case worker, and the judge dismisses the charges, but has her committed due to her family's negligence. She's calm on the ride there, but because the ER was crowded, we were sent to a hallway to wait. While there, I notice her get triggered by the sound of a crying baby, and warn the deputy I'm with and security. She proceeds to have another violent outburst and tries to fight all of us and the nurses until the Dr sedates her. Her family waited two months before calling to check in.

To the melted hairbrush comment in story 27, pretty sure that the hairbrush was plastic (cuz plastic is the more acceptable material in prison since it's harder to turn into a weapon), so melt the plastic handle somehow, shape it while it's soft & maleable into a flat and/or pointed shape, then let it cool.

It was a toothbrush, not a hairbrush. In the movie Freeway, Reese Witherspoon turned a toothbrush into a weapon by wrapping the head and bristles with the Saran Wrap from her sandwich. Then she melted it with a lighter and would rub it on the cement floor to form a blade of sorts. She repeated the process until it was sharp. So, if movies are to be believed, that's how the guy in the story did it.

Not a prison story, but the guy is serving life for this crime. The story about the guy on spice and setting his cell on fire reminds me of something that happened. A relative of mine (by marriage) almost lost his niece due to her boyfriend's actions. She was roughly 7 month pregnant, and she had left him due to his being abusive. He was high on spice, and when he found her, he used a box cutter and forcibly removed the baby, causing the baby's death. She did survive the horrific attack. When he was shown being walked into booking, he kept repeting to the news cameras, "Drugs are dangerous". I dont recall of he ever truly showed remorse for what he did, or what happened once he was put in prison. Cant imagine it was anything nice.

Story 21 made me fucking cry. What the ever-living-fuck. That poor guy. Everyone, just wanted him to suffer. He is completely alone, abused by everyone around him, and is too impaired to even understand why. This is the kind of thing that makes me believe we don't deserve to survive as a species. There seems to be more monsters out there than decent human beings.

Same.... Haven't seen spice do things like that....though what I have seen/ heard is similarly scary.....
People continuing to smoke it even though it gives them seizures
Guy I knew passed out smoking with his friend...... Guy I knew woke up next to his friend..... His friend did not wake up....guy still smoked it
My personal experience.... Mostly Felt like being suffocated until passing out
Edit to add:got away from that situation thankfully......only legal Mary Jane now
Also .... Looking back....it was so incredibly unpleasant...don't know why...other than it was there, and everyone I knew was smoking it, or maybe that I couldn't care less if I woke up or not...... Whatever the reasons...can't understand the me that smoked that poison

Going to prison, even for murder, does not rob one of their humanity, and given how many times the law gets it wrong there are a ton of people locked up on bogus evidence and garbage testimony. I'm not saying send them to summer camp. I'm not saying they should be coddled and babied because of a rough past. I had a rough past when I was physically, emotionally, and the other kind of abused by the adults around me as a kid. I've never seen the inside of a prison cell. I got help and did the work, and while it's never easy I keep going. But you don't get to choose to deny another person of their human dignity. Disagree if you want to, but you're wrong. I'm sure someone will take issue with this post.
