My friend and I have had access to S&Box for a while and I honestly hate it. I get that the game isn’t done but the lack of certain setting like mouse sensitivity or keybinds, the horrible avatars, the lackluster sandbox with boring weapon models, and the awful performance on my computer just make me upset every time I try to play it.
I’m pretty sure the poor performance on your pc is kind of your fault, also the characters are both simultaneously worse than humans in every way and better than humans in every way. Also, the sandbox of… well S&box might be spruced up later.
youre not meant to "play" it. the reason they give it out in this stage in the first place is so that devs can make stuff with the engine and see what works and what doesnt so that facepunch knows what to add/remove/modify. players cant really do much else than just watch stuff happen. this isnt The Game, this is a developer preview
All the characters make me think is that it takes significantly more processing power to render those models than the half life 2 ones but no one is actually going to want to look at them for very long.

i friggin' despise the terry/hotdog guy models. yeah, sure, garry wanted them to be unique or something, but they just look like utter crap. yeah, sure, games can remove them, but will they? think of roblox, most games allow or enforce R6-based models (the default model type) simply because they're the easiest to develop around. same thing applies to the sausage men, most games will use them because it's simply easy to. huge mistake with making the face of the game so punchable. also, the blog post announcing the closing of invites was damn near nonsensical. something about abolishing client/server architecture (i'm no game dev, but that sounds like a nightmare, we have c/s for a reason lmao), and having games only exist in the "main menu" gamestate (but why??). it seems like goofy stuff you'd see in an april fools prank post. i don't think they have any set direction for this overambitious and ugly tech demo, nor any idea what target audience they're going for. it's gonna flop, man.
roblox is kind of different story though because r6 was the original and practically ONLY character model for over a decade, and actually looks fine and fits in with the style of the game where as the hotdog guys are completely disgusting looking and no one likes them.
I like the idea that you could load the skateboard game on any map and make horrible choices like playing platforming maps, horror maps, or campaigns of other games
I will be honest in saying that I see the potential in S&box. It's clearly not meant to be a replacement for GMOD since it seems to be more like a game platform than anything else. Obviously updates breaking the user-made games stinks, but hey, what can you do? And it's probably the closest thing we'll have to a Source 2 SDK, since we know Valve has been protective of their codes for a good while now and I doubt they'll ever release a standalone SDK anytime soon.

The hot dog people is a design choice that is certainly filtering me out of playing it.
