There are rare moments in one's life when a memory is unlocked. One which was made but never once recalled. This is one of those moments. Unfortunately, I wish to have never remembered. lol I don't know if it was one of the games my Grandpa pirated and burned onto a CD for us or if this was a demo on another game I once played, but there has not been a single day in my entire life I have ever even once for a second thought of this game, but the moment I saw the little alien screwdriver, there it was. A decades old memory dusted off for the very first time. It's been taking up space for no reason. Why was it never deleted? What other such memories are lounging around not paying rent, I wonder?
I have a lingering childhood memory of the Gubble as well. At some point a copy of Gubble Buggy Racer got into our house. Despite trying multiple times, my dad could never get it to run on our family computer though. So, the case just lay on shelves for years while I grew up and all I could do was stare at the cover art and wonder about all the good times I could be having with it. Took me years to figure out what it was called as an adult, but I have yet to actually (re-)visit it.
I loved playing this as a kid on my PC! For some ungodly stupid reason the PS1 version doesn't have a save feature of any kind or passwords. You have to beat this fairly long game in one run perfectly. Who ever came up with that one has low IQ.
I grew up with the sequel to this game, which I'm pretty sure is even more obscure. Might have only come out on PC. But the music in it has gotta be some of the best MIDI ever composed at the time. Real bangers on pretty much any sound card. It came with a level editor, probably the one the devs used to make it, though I never figured out how to use it. Oh, and it had a "Gubble Fan Club" photo gallery, and one such fan also got his picture on one of the enemies. You can't make this up.
Holy cow! Do you know if there's still open admission to the Gubble Fan Club? The two of us need somewhere to show off out homemade Gubble cosplays. (Spenceroni is Gubble and Spenny MaGoo is the screwdriver)
We’ve been getting super into dream interpretation lately. We googled that, and if you see Gubble in your dreams it means that you have feel a great release of tension in your life…either that or you play way, way, way too much Gubble.
