Interesting comment about scraping off with the palette knife if the paint gets to thick to work on. I like how you jump between brushing and scraping. Your commentary is so informative and enjoyable. Painting process is a joy to watch.
Fantastic brushstrokes. Making me homesick watching your videos. I grew up in Falmouth and love the Cornish coast. Moved to Sydney Australia. I paint in acrylic and recently oils. I am very inspired with your videos. Very helpful hints too. Love the dog!
Thank you very much Yolanda I’m pleased it helps with your painting but sorry to make you homesick! Cornwall is still pretty much the same as 25 years ago but there are now more visitors all year round especially since they dualled most of the A30. Lots of new incomers too since Covid
Ooft that must have been a challenge … light conditions changing so radically, so quickly. I’ve just started plein air and finding it so hard not to get into a panic trying to get things down before they change.
It was very challenging but enjoyable all the same. The sea changes colour so quickly and so often, it must be one of the hardest plein air subjects to tackle
Hi Mr Andrew.... 😌That wonderful!, 🤔🧐Beautiful colors... Too much, beautiful sky, a lot, the rocks and foam Sea are so beautiful!!!! As always place stunning! Congratulations Andrew, this opera, I try painting like you.... 👌👍☺️👏👏👏👏👏👏🙋♀️

Lovely painting , we holidayed down that way for 15 years in a row with the kids, camped at beautiful Coverack, but know this area well where you are . I find it hard to finish my plein air paintings when I get home so they largely remain unfinished in a pile ! ( I’m new to plein air, always been animal artist , very detailed) , also I’m in sunny Sussex which has the most uninspiring and boring seafront ! …can’t wait to get back down to beloved Cornwall Absolutely loving your videos , thank you so much x
Hi Anthea - thank you very much for your comments. I don't often finish my plein air paintings on location as I find they often need a 'lift' and lack contrast. I usually get back into them in the studio after they have dried. I find this works best for me. Some of them get painted over too - especially if I run out of canvas or boards! x
@@chipollino11 yes I would like to paint in USA one day or Canada where the colours are brighter and more intense. Here we have bright clear days and beautiful blue aqua water but it's often grey and more subtle
Watching your video is very helpful. It is great to see the brushstrokes and how you apply the paint. (I'd like to know the size of brush used when you were painting outside). I love your use of colour. Thanks.
Great video and painting Andrew thank you. Inspired for my session tomorrow now. I am also sorting my studio out so I can start painting indoors too. Your studio section is really interesting. I love hearing about your process.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Such a beautiful image. I especially love the golden glow between the far headland and the sky. I’ve seen that many a time when bad weather followed by good weather is on the way. Amazing colours too. How did you mix the dark green sea just above the beach to the right? It’s very typical of the Cornish sea.
Thank you very much Jennie The dark green was probably made with raw sienna, lemon yellow and violet. It’s hard to remember exactly as I have to paint so quickly outdoors to catch the light and colours
Thanks for watching and thank you for your kind comments about my work 😃. It’s very challenging doing these videos by the waters edge. Loud sea and usually very windy. It’s all done on a budget and this one was just me and my daughter who was 16 at the time 👍🏻
A artist myself but enjoy watching other artist working and yours was a pleasure to watch

@@AndrewBarrowmanArt do you ever use any of the prismatic palette stuff? Just teaching myself after coming unstuck with subtle sky hue shifts.
@@stukennedy195 Hi Stu
- no I have not tried that method. I love mixing as I go
That is an amazing painting. Just watching how you paint is teaching me where I'm going wrong and how stiff and stilted my own work is.
Thank you so much Irene. I’m really pleased it has helped your work 👍🏻🎨
