    Thanks for this! Followed the instructions and replaced the resistor last night and all four fan speeds work now. I will say, I don't know how you do this without a lot of cursing.

    Thanks for this. I’ve owned my Jeep for over 8 years and finally gotten around to fixing this. Took me all of 25 minutes. 🙄

    Dude, you just saved me $100 in labor at a mechanic. $26, 30 minutes, and I've got all 4 fan speeds back. Wasn't the least irritating thing I've ever done, but WELL worth it. Thank you!

    Thank you for the video. It was easier for me to undo both screws and pull the whole resistor out(with harness attached). I took the flathead screw driver, disengaged the red tab and pushed the entire red clip out from the bottom. It was easier for the wiring harness to come out. Thanks again for the help, brother. I was just about to purchase a two hundred dollar climate control panel. Cheers...

    Thanks, great video. Two years after you posted it and people are still using it. I just did this on my 2006 Wrangler. My first 2 fan speeds didn’t work but 3 & 4 did, putting in the new resistor did the trick. The only step I had issues with was pressing the black tab on the resistor plug. I ended up pulling out the resistor with the plug still attached, I was then able to see how the locking tab worked. Thanks again for the video.

    One of the best DIY'ers video. Very clear and detailed with great lighting. I was able to disconnected the green plug from the bracket without pulling it apart and just moved it to the side. Got the new resistor in and all 4 fan speeds are working. Thank you.

      Agreed. Doesn't assume previous experience with this type of repair like many others ("just take these 4 things out and you're all set"---great, how do I get those 4 things out?). Very instructive and very succinct.

    Just got done replacing a heater core in our 2000 TJ and it's important to replace the resistor and blower fan at the same time. The resistors tend to rust and short out easily.

    Thanks for the vid! EXACTLY what I need. My TJ has the same symptoms. I was going to start by replacing the switch, but that is probably NOT the culprit., so I'm gonna start with replacing the resistor as you have done. I take it that your rig is green, hence the "BIG BOOGER" passenger grab handle? LOVE IT! A Jeep wave from Ohio, my JeepBro.

      you can also replace the switch (fan speed switch on back of hvac switch panel each dial has its own switch on the back side video for this here on youtube also) instead of buying the 100.00 hvac complete set up. Part number is SW2252 Duralast part for 1997 to 2006 its under $20.00 @ advanced auto, It's called a fan switch interruptor...

    great video glad i seen it before i ordered the 150$ switch panel... then again ive had this issue for about 4years and never even looked into it i dont mind using high or nothing, seems like a really common problem i wonder what causes it.. they added alot of really common problems to the 04/05/06s.. most of them not these cheap or easy to fix... i really like my LJ and the 6 speed trans both of which only come in those years but obviously bring along some other issues.. replace that OPDA if you havent already

    My 3rd speed doesn’t work any longer. For a while it’s only been high and the first 2 speeds are the same. More recently it is not wanting to work at all. Occasionally I’ll hit a bump and it will turn on. And also the blower motor switch seems to want to do the same on all options.

    I don't know how you did it..... But to get the red tab out was a PITA and wiggle the connector off while still installed. Like another commenter said.... I just got all the wires out of the way including what looks to be a black square block out, that is next to that green plug ...you have to get something in back to squeeze that connection plug (once you feel the plug, you will understand how to get it out........... THEN, use the 5/16 socket to get the bolts out.... then pull it all out and figure out how the get the wiring harness unhooked from the resistor.... Look at your new resistor and I think it will give you an idea how to press the black tab under the red tab to then start wiggling it apart.... AGAIN I don't know howMoney is an illusion got it apart while still installed. But THANK YOU for the video, as without it no way I was going to be able to do this.

      Vacuum leak on left side of the motor or right side of the motor left side of the motors in the firewall where the air conditioning lines go in through the firewall there’s a vacuum line right there and sometimes it breaks off or comes off but as vacuum operated for the vents so it’s either clogs vacuum or it’s a broken vacuum line or damage vacuum line

    • @MoneyisanIllusion
      @MoneyisanIllusion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s probably dirty on a contact point. I have never taken the switch apart but they are not cheap. I would try to open it up and maybe use rubbing alcohol on a q tip and clean everything you can. 4 working would mean it’s a resistor because all the resistor is doing is giving 75% load (3) 50% load (2) etc. It might need a new switch. Pull it out and clean everything you can get to before shelling out money for a replacement one.
