#Odin2 #PSVita #emulation - เกม
Russ is working his ass off. 😂 I feel like we’re getting more videos than usual.
Me too. Even though he hyped me up to buy the Miyoo Mini Plus (alongside Tech Dweeb) and I don't intend to buy anything else for the time being, I still watch every new video of his because they're so well made.
Watching this Russ, It had me thinking that It would be interesting to hear what your Perfect handheld would be. It would be fun if you did a tier list of handheld parts, Dpad, Thumbsticks, Buttons etc, and see what your perfect handheld would end up looking like.
It's the Odin 2, he has many videos on it.
I think he already made similar video, just not in tier list style, maybe one day....
He addressed this question 5 months ago in a Q&A video to celebrate 400K subscribers.
I'd like to see something like the Odin 2 with a 7" screen or even larger, but that's probably a pipe dream.
@@zZiL341yRj736 it's his favourite overall, but are there not things that he would take from other handhelds? differernt parts of different handhelds in a different form factor?
I literally just bought the Odin 2 a week before the odin 2 mini announcement. At first I felt a little bit of FOMO and a little sad. I was even thinking of selling it once I received it. Until I got my Odin 2 and started using it. It is an AMAZING device. I love my Odin 2. Even the weight. Its premium feeling and worth every dollar. (It cost me about USD$528 after shipping and duties to Singapore).
Playing the different systems has been a dream on it.
And Russ is right too, for emulation you don't need the latest hardware. The software is what holds it back and it's kinda plateaued anyway becos the games don't need powerful or the latest hardware, they just need software that can emulate them well.
So you would change that for a smaller screen?
no, I meant I bought it 1 week before the first teaser image and also received it within 3 days as DHL was the only option. When no specs or price was announced, just the weight of the device was made known.
I actually thought it was the Odin 3 until it was finally revealed.
Fellow singaporean here, good to see a local comment! Do you think it’s worth to get the Odin 2 Pro as an end game android handheld? I’m currently using the RG556 but some games have slower frame rates.
Just tell yourself that 5in is worse than 6in and that the Odin 2 mini looks like a cheap PS Vita knockoff and your Fomo will subside...
I also just recently got an Odin 2 and the size and weight is perfect. Can’t imagine having a smaller and more expensive device
I also travel with a PS Vita, and usually nothing else. It's not a perfect handheld but it's tiny, lightweight, great battery as you mentioned, and a HUGE library of games when taking into account the PSP games which run natively, many PS1 and PS2 classics that were officially released by Sony, the large and still active homebrew scene, and my two personal favorite systems to emulate (GBA and SNES, esp good on Vita because neither is hampered by lack of L2/R2).
I love the current shape of the Odin 2. It is legit so secure and feels like it can survive a drop. It’s sturdy and comfortable
Great timing, I’ve been so curious about your say on the mini!
You nailed it Russ. This device doesn’t make a ton of sense for me. They said it wasn’t meant to compete with the Odin 2, but it’s a direct competitor, but smaller and less ergonomic
It competes with their RP4P, with size performance and their Odin 2, which makes people reevaluate how much that portability is worth compared to battery life, ergo, cost, thermals, etc.
Still, I guess the more stacked your product lineup is, the harder for a competitor to get in those gaps?
@@washuai it’s twice the price as the RP4 Pro. I wouldn’t consider that competition
@@dimentoajOdin 2 or RG556 is too big, before the Odin 2 mini you'd look to RP4P for more pocketable performance, right. It's still a choice where that price asks how much more do you really want that performance or a Vita design
My only concern is battery life. Just got the Odin 2 and it’s amazing, I can play for super long play sessions with great ergonomics. Considering you can get the Odin 2 for a bit cheaper and the Retroid pocket 4 pro for half that price, I’m not sure if the price is quite right on this one. It’s gonna be a great device, but other options might overshadow it.
I was just about to buy an Odin 2 but they announced this think I'll wait until the reviews come in, I do like the smaller size
Same. Having something that'll have no problem emulating all ps2, wii, gamecube games in a system almost as small as the vita is awesome
after playing wii\gamecube\ps1\ps2 games on my phone (s24 ultra), I can't imagine gaming on a smaller screen, let alone that much smaller (5" is tiny compared to modern phones)
@@fug33 you didnt lose much screen size, because youre S24 ultra is more a longer display and loses many space in the high.
19.5:9 against 16:9
in this terms of use, youre S24 ultra has abaout a 5.3" screen
@@keyboy1001 You have the Retroid Pocket 4 pro for that
literally ps vita on steroids, but ive been hearing sony is making a powerful hand held gaming device to be able to play ps4 games
Love the studio setup. Looks amazing over there. Thanks for the video always top tier. 👍
What's amazing about it is once winlator becomes more advanced, we will have a very portable Windows gaming machine as well.
Isn't there a bottleneck in terms of 32-bit versus 64-bit that means only games supporting 32-bit will run?
@@BlastingXNP 32 and 64bit games are supported...
Mobox plays 64bit
@@iamnotkurtcobain Even though Android doesn't support 64? Are you absolutely sure?
A year ago the state of it was "there's just no way currently." I just want to be sure that has been passed before I get my hopes up.
Curious. Do you call the Steam Deck running Steam OS a "windows gaming machine" 🤔
A truly pocketable device with all the power and MINI-LED screen? Sign me up
Y'all have massive pockets calling this pocketable.

@@lucidx88 My jacket pockets aren't 200mm deep. Not sure a sling bag or bag compartments count towards pocketability.
But I'm just flabbergasted some of you pocket things like a DS, PSP or RP4.
@@RandomPlaceHolderName I bet most don't. They just act like they do and actually carry it separately in a bag or something
@@RandomPlaceHolderName Maybe don't wear skinny jeans then
Thank you for the video, Russ.
I'm all over this thing. I love my retroid pocket 4, but this has the level of power I want and should only be slightly larger than that.
Thanks. Love your honest no bs content. So much of TH-cam is a commercial. Given the crazy $1200 of flagship phones, the price seems decent.
Been waiting for this.
More people should make mini versions of their handhelds! I tend to like and lean towards that more. I love the Steamdeck and a mini version would be dope. Mini Odin 2 looks cool! Thanks again for the consistant uploads! I dunno how you guys do it.
Love my odin 2 and i definitely use for home use and on larger trips. The mini, size wise, seems great for daily trips and just small trips where you may not have a backpack, unless it ends up not being very pocketable.
this is what i have been waiting for!
I already have my Odin 2 pro (thanks to Russ and his amazing videos encouraging my purchase of it, lol), so it seems like a poor investment to throw it aside/sell it to get something that's like the Odin 2, except with less screen size and battery life for a much higher price. Right now I'm still playing around with my Odin 2 and making a lot of configurations to it as I do, and I couldn't be happier with it 😊
I like the form factor and I think it will be a more fitting for me than the Odin 2. I've always like the Odin 2's performance but it's form factor really is a challenge for my hand size. I also always felt the face buttons were not as "mushy" as I would like. Also the joysticks, while a huge improvement over the standard Switch style sticks they really feel small on the 2. The price isn't that interesting to me. I'm still more interested in the Ayaneo Pocket S myself, even at it's crazy price.
The most important difference between the Odin 2 Mini and the PocketS is going to be the sticks and D-Pad. Odin 2 Mini will have the same ones on the Odin 2. D-Pad is identical to the PS Vita's and the sticks feel great for a handheld. Actual analog sticks, not the Switch-style ones. Both are going to feel premium and pocketable, too.
@@fellowninjaSame love my Odin 2 but when playing fighting games that split second can make the difference between winning and losing fights.
I find the buttons on my Odin 2 bit mushy especially the "A" button when I repeatedly press it. It goes down and burrows itself for few seconds before popping back up which is annoying and causes me to lose fights in fighting games like. Tekken Dark Resurrection, Street Fighter!
@@fellowninja all fair points. i have found the switch style sticks that Ayaneo uses to be good enough for me. I actually prefer the shorter travel.
@@nepaliprayasgurung2594thats interesting because mine are not mushy at all and they dont feel comfortable to press down for long periods.
@@JeffBreyer Don't know about yours maybe mine had problems so I'm definitely can't wait to buy Odin 2 mini. The LED screen will definitely be a great upgrade for me and worthwhile!
This is the one for me! With that super bright screen and form factor too.
indeed! I'm on the same boat.
Good points Russ, I’m hoping some owners have fomo for the mini and sell their Odin 2 units then will have more options on the used market.might drive the price down a bit.
I'm intrigued enough to keep an eye on your channel for a hands-on review. If there's an informed decision to make, then I need experts like you to make help me make them Russ. Thanks for your work.
This is like the perfect handheld to me, pocketability is a requirement for me so the Odin2 was always a bit too big. I got the Pocket 4 Pro and am mostly happy with it, but the symmetric sticks, smaller screen, and D1100 instead of Snapdragon have been limitations. I think this thing isn't to replace the Odin2, it's for people like me who want a properly small handheld that's still good for modern-ish gaming.
If one fell from the sky I'd give it a happy home, but I already have an Odin2pro as my home/destination gaming device and other options for on the go such as rp2+, q36, and good 'ol bluetooth controllers of all shapes and sizes to hook up to the cell phone, so I don't really need the mini. I'm happy for Ayn though, great work, looks cool, sell a ton of em! Thanks for the content Russ, I dig your style.
Shame there's only two colors variants. A design like this would be fantastic with a range of different colors.
Agreed. Different colors would go crazy on this design
Agreed, so tired of the black and white options that's so common on tech nowadays. This is in dire need of some colorful translucent options.
yea need that transparent blue from the odin 2
No it wouldn’t
@@50086gt Brilliant contribution to the conversation. Thanks.
I'm looking forward to your hands on review. And the comparison between the Odin 2 Mini and the Odin 2.
Can't wait for the hands on review
I think the SteamDeck is still best value handheld out there on the market.
I adore the keyboard slide on the win 4 ❤️
See I also love my Odin 2, but I have ham hands, so it works great for me. So I can see this appealing to someone who wants something a bit smaller but with similar power. I don't think they're undercutting themselves as much as they are diversifying a bit. I won't get this device even thought I've bought the other AYN devices, but I definitely can see a market for it.
Really excited to see the Odin 2 review when you've had enough time to get a feel for it. I'm really happy to see the psvita form factor being used in a much more powerful device
This is the Odin 2 mini. He already reviewed the Odin 2
Your videos give a lot of good information and let people make informed choices on handhelds. The Odin 2 mini looks good on paper but that price just pushes it out of reach. I bought a Steam Deck at the end of last year and absolutely love it for emulation. Previously I had an Anbernic RG351P, and recently bought both an RG35XX H as an upgrade to the 351P without losing the super pocketability, and a PowKiddy X55 for when I wanted a bigger screen but didn't feel like having my Steam Deck out. But now I want a more powerful handheld closer to the Steam Deck, and I was torn between the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and the Anbernic RG556. At first I was swayed by the AMOLED and ergonomics of the RG556, and it very nearly won the decision, but ultimately I wanted something with that extra oomph to play GameCube and PS2, and rewatching your videos on both consoles I finally decided on the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. I don't think Ill be disappointed at all even with the lower resolution. UPDATE -- I'm going to still order an RG556 as well, it's still got a number of options I like.
Tbh the main complaint from people online was the size. Now they can get a smaller version
Waiting for this review before I buy the Odin 2 🔥
might preorder this one
The Odin 2 is my ultimate handheld for at home and anywhere I'm bringing a backpack. I like my pocket sized handhelds for on the go.... wondering if this would be pocketable enough to be the ultimate solution for that purpose. I still think it might be a bit too chunky for my liking. What's nice is I can use sync thing to sync all of my saves states across both handhelds and the Android setup would be super easy since I already did the legwork with my Odin 2.
That’s where I’m at. I still use the anbernic 351mp as my daily pocket device, and the Odin 2 for at home or where I have a backpack.
I currently use the Powkiddy RGB30, but am looking to upgrade some day. For me, I'm thinking the Retroid Pocket 4 might be the best fit to not break the bank, but will be interested to see how this feels.
Just seen the original Odin 2 on sale and was gonna buy it, but I love smaller form factor devices and this one looks super premium even if the ergonomics are unknown, I love the style of it personally and I think I'll definitely get this instead as my first Odin device.
Great review, I have a RP4 Pro so I'm planning to wait for an "Odin 3" at this point I think.
Would you be willing to do an updated review on the MSI Claw since the updates are said to increase performance so well?
If a sacrifice has to be made, I’d prefer it be the ergonomics, because you can always buy an ergonomic grip for it.
Thanks for being honest about this Russ. I’m rocking an Odin 2 Max so this would feel like a downgrade to me in terms of performance and battery life. Not getting this for as long as my Max is still up and running. Thanks again mate, saved me 400 bucks.
Man. I really would love an opinion here. I love the Vita form factor, i have the OLED one and the thinner one. I have just bought the RP4 Pro, as I wanted something powerful, but odin 2 for my taste is too big.
But now it seems all i wished for is coming a Vita style with odin 2 power….
If you were in my situation, should you spend again on the odin 2 mini ? (so soon as i just got the RP4 pro)
Hey, when do you think the Odin 3 will be released? I would have ordered the Odin 2 a long time ago, but I would love to have a 7 inch display. Otherwise nothing should change on the Odin 2. Do you think the Odin 3 will get a bigger display? Are there any leaks or release dates?
Before starting the video I was in FOMO mode. I was looking for a console for "all-in-one" emulation, especially for 3ds. Now, I'm considering the Odin 2 pro. Ergonomics is the first thing.
Thanks for helping
if you've ever used a vita, the ergonmics are fine. us vita owners have played that thing for thousands of hours
@@nefariou5 not vita, but owned a psp-1000 and was good for short-medium sessions. So I'm judging only con experience on other devices
2in1 cases, as always, will help the ergonomics issues as well as protecting the screen. They're terrific for the RP3/RP4.
This will go great with my Red Magic 9
The Pimax Portal had an LED (QLED) option.
I was pretty hyped until I remembered I play my Vita 95% of the time with that grip case that adds easier R2/L2 functionality and a better grip. I think I'll stick with the Odin 2 Pro.
It has L2 and R2 without needing a grip though... The Vita with proper analog sticks and triggers like this, instead of the stupid back touchpad, would've been awesome.
@@infasis "It has L2 and R2 without needing a grip though... "
yeah, I know, that's why I said "easier" lmao
@@imnotsickler The Mini ALREADY has L2 and R2. You don't need to add a grip to make it easier like the Vita does. It's like a regular Odin 2 in that it has L2 and R2 right from the box.
@@PhilosophyofGuitar Cool! I was referring mostly to the grip part, I should have emphasized that. I mean I did, but apparently not enough l. I mentioned the L2/R2 thing because Russ said that Vita didn't have that, which it technically does and the case makes it easier to use.
@@imnotsickler I see. I understand now. You're saying you have the Vita grips, so you don't the Mini. Does the L2/R2 grip on Vita work well for PS1 games?
It really does look nice. I’m thinking back to your comparison video for the Retroid Pocket 4 and Odin 2. I’m unsure with the same innards if the extra cost will be worth it for the sleek form factor and screen and as another Android device on the market - not to mention the closing gap in price between the Steam Deck and its competitors… that being said, man does it look cool and if the reviews are glowing then I may be swayed.
Still happy with my rp4 pro, plays ps2 flawlessly as with GameCube I’ve had zero issues everything that was wrong has been fixed super happy.
Doing some rough calculations, each dimming zone will be approximately 73x73 pixels in size.
Here's the math: A resolution of 1920x1080 equals 2,073,600 pixels. Dividing this by 384 dimming zones gives us about 5,400 pixels per dimming zone. Taking the square root of 5,400, we get 73, indicating that each dimming zone is 73x73 pixels. On a 5-inch screen, this translates to each dimming zone being around 4.2x4.2mm... Not too bad for a device at the price this will likely be...
I’ve been really hoping for a pocketable, analog stick centric device for GameCube. This one definitely seems like it would check those boxes, but it seems like I’d be paying for a lot more than I’d be using
Screen is the most important thing for me, we need more affordable high quality OLED/MiniLED devices out there. But 384 brightness zones is NOT very many. It needs serious testing, bright objects moving on dark backgrounds. I'm not holding my breath that we won't see some very obvious artifacting.
Ohhhh wait in what bag did you put your Odin 2. Can we have a link please?
If I can't quite afford it right now but I feel like this would be the perfect handheld for me. I have and love my RP4 pro but sometimes wish the screen was just a little bigger. The Odin 2 seems great but the size is what put me off.. this is a great best-of-both-worlds in terms of both performance and size imo. Maybe I'll end up grabbing one in a few months if the reviews seem good at that point.
For years now I've wanted to replace my aging MOQI i7s Phone with something newer that runs more emulators. Every time a new device like this pops up thats small/pocketable, AND powerful, I ask the same question: Does it have a sim card slot? And the answer is always no... its such a shame, this device is something i'd buy instantly if it had a sim card slot for phone functionality since it meets every other need in terms of an upgrade over the MOQI i7s.
I wonder how the odin 2 mini would compare with the retroid pocket 4 pro. The portability and price of the rp4 made it an easy choice for me. Is the mini really worth the extra $140-200?
Super excited for this device!!! Probably gonna buy it if it doesn't overheat. I have always dreamt of F-Zero GX on a small portable with OLED (waited for 9 years for Nintendo to do it lmao but I gave up), shame it is not OLED, but Mini LED should not be that much worse right? Certainly better than IPS, I hate the IPS backlight, prefer VA or even TN panels. Extremely excited for your review, by any chance could you please test Darkwatch with 60 FPS and Widescreen patches?
the odin 2 mini is basically exactly what I want. Great performance in a small form factor. Odin 2 is bigger than what I want. What I would really want is a steam deck in that form factor (: maybe in a few years…
The mini-LED with 1100nits it's the selling point for me. Finally something bright enough that you can play anywhere..
With the PiMax Portal QLED, it has four options for local dimming zones from close - extreme. I'm not sure what the difference is number wise in dimming zones between close and extreme.
Along with options for 1080p 60,90 & 120 along with 4k 90 & 120. I ran four tests: close 1080p120 extreme 1080p120, close 4k120, & extreme 4k120. Extreme 4k120 (no BFI) really does pop with minimal backlite bleed however there is some haloing between really bright objects and black backgrounds. An example would be the Triforce pieces in motion in the intro on LttP. When they stop on the logo it looks really sharp. Viewing angles still aren't great in comparison to AMOLED and as mentioned, there's still minimal backlite bleed.
Close 1080p feels much more like a regular panel. Still decent but not the same as either the extreme 1080 or 4k options. 4k120 extreme does drain the 4000mAh real fast. 15min was about 8% of battery just playing the LttP intro. So hopefully AYN has found a better to way handle these challenges. Though I haven't tested 1080p vs 4k battery life drain on the Portal so maybe that'll make a big difference.
Overall the PiMax QLED is a beautiful screen, I'd consider it a significant upgrade over the panel found in the Odin 1 but it's not AMOLED or super AMOLED in Samsung phones.
I'm really happy to see front firing speakers, but the placement of the start and select buttons really puts me off. They're really hard to hit in that location if you're emulating something that needs you to use those buttons a lot during play.
Hey Russ. Great Video. Are you going to make an iOS retroarch guide?
If you get it, can you compare the input lag with the normal odin 2? I'm curious whether that extra input lag on the odin 2 is because of the screen
It's been decided. I'm getting the Odin 2. After my daughter graduated and went to college. I took her ps vita, and turned it into a retro gaming unit. It's great, but after a while hands do cramp up. After watching your last video praising the Odin 2 perhaps that's exactly what I'm looking for (plus the addition of ps 2 GameCube ...etc. bonus points) this mini looks great, but be warned it might not be comfortable to hold, specially with the addition of L2 and R2 buttons. I got a feeling people are gonna be fleeced. 🤘
I know there was a lot of talk about a screen upgrade before the Odin 2 even came out, so maybe that's why they are making this. It looks great for what it is. However, I think I am in the same boat as Russ and like the size and ergonomics on what we just got in the original Odin 2. If anything, I would have much preferred to see some modular upgrades to the Odin 2, a new mini LED or OLED panel that I could swap in at home (although I am sure I'm in the minority of people feeling comfortable enough to do something like that) with the option on which screen to get when you order. Some new button options, as far as having the xbox layout and color options, would have been super cool. Lastly, I wish they would just make the backplate in different color options, much like JSAUX and others did for the Steam Deck.
Yo, which island are you on? I’m on Oahu, found your channel recently, good stuff.
Big fan of the Vita form factor so this is a no-brainer for me. I will probably make it a dedicated Sony handheld.
Russ, do you think they will work on the input lag? I never experience it but some people really complain.
Better to just wait. not falling for the early bird discount trick
If you look at Ayn's past pricing, you'd actually be a fool to wait...
@@frykedo they ever go on sale, even if it takes a year or two?
@@washuai not as often as anbernic or retroid

@@fryke I agree with Russ, I don't mind paying $30 to wait lol
idk how comfrotable vita is to hold, but i personally find the PSP pretty comfortable to hold, the curve really helps with the ergonomics, so id imagine the PS vita would be similar, right?
Just ordered! Got the 15 dollar code so literally just free shipping lol. How’s the return policy with this company. Just in case I’m not satisfied with the size. I might be though. Have a steam deck oled and it just too big. Had it listed for sale lol
i’m so glad i didn’t buy a retroid pocket 4, this is EXACTLY what i’ve been waiting for
You can use Winlator for benchmarking these higher end devices
I'm interested in this because I like the Odin2 but it's a bit too big for my liking. But I'm not gonna pre-order it. Just gonna let things unfold, I'm in no rush. Will see your thoughts then and maybe pull the trigger. I'm excited about this, but I also don't travel a lot, so it's a lot more of a luxury item for me.
I have a Retroid Pocket 3+ Metal Edition, I like the retro functionality of it, but I would like something more powerful to play PS2 and Gamecube that is smaller than my Steamdeck, do you think this or the Odin 2 would be going on sale for a reduced price at any point in the next year or so?
Hey Russ great video as always. You mentioned you were curious about the timing of AYN releasing Odin Mini. Just my speculation, but the fact Odin Mini is going pre-sale within days of Aya Neo Pocket S shipments, it feels like a power play on AYN’s part. I myself was on that shipping list and cancelled.
Again this my speculation, respect to both companies. Both produce fantastic forward thinking products and competition is good. Especially for the consumer.
What color will you guys get? They both look good!
Ngl, I love the look of it and personally I got the transparent blue Odin2 and... I hate its look. I prefer the simpler odin1 I had. So the idea of a sexier sleeker vita-like version of the device I love is very appealing. But I even have reservations of the ergonomics on the Odin2. The idea of losing even the little bit of bumps is a real bummer and I just don't think there is enough of a different to justify an upgrade for a pretty hefty pricetag.
Especially as a preorder unknown. I got an early RG552 and the Fan noise and overall bulk made it something I never felt like using compared to its lighter anbernic family members.
I might get suckered in on the hype cycle when the hands on reviews come out but I think I have staved off the shiny new toy syndrome for now.
"Mini" doesn't mean "cheaper". It just means compact. I'm glad that they're not putting a worse SOC in this, and the ergonomics don't matter. Flat back means that it's going to be infinitely easier to put in a pocket or bag.
Excuse me, it rocks a MINI LED screen? That's super cool
Thanks
The Odin 2 is the 1st emulation handheld I bought after waiting for several years to finally buy one, and I intend it to be what I use for several years to come. It emulates everything I want to already. But the big thing for me is the built in grips. I used to have a Vita and while I really enjoyed a lot of games on it, I always hated the ergonomics. I would never consider buying an Odin 2 in the Vita's form factor. I don't think I'd even enjoy it at that point.
Anyone who thinks this is too expensive, go and check the price difference between a led panel and a mini led panel. You are paying for the amazing screen. It should support hdr so u will have an amazing experience when playing games that support it which not many do at the moment on android unless u winlate.
But mini led is expensive. And odin 2 is cheaper now jusy cuz its beem out for ages and have cheaper productions now
Seems like a waste of money to me.
@@CasepbX yeah some see it that way, i personally would never go back from my mini led monitor, but yeah for handhelds it could be a waste
We kinda need some sort of handheld gaming device recommendation site, based on your priorities (systems to emulate, battery duration, size/weight, ergonomics, etc...).
waiting for a hands on video for this.
Odin 2 is already perfect. I have a steam deck oled, onexplayer 8.4 first gen, retroid pocket 3 and 3+. The only next handheld I'm interested in is amd strix point apu next year or so.
On the topic of reaching dimishing returns on android, I feel like the next "logical" step would be for companies to move from android and start making windows based devices in these small pocketable form factors.
I'd love a pocketable windows handheld that I can run all the emulators I want and play PC games natively.
I don't know if it's possible or viable currently, and if they make a portable PC of this size it will either be heavily underpowered or have a battery that lasts 30 mins of light use and overheating like the core of the sun.
Portable PCs still have a long way to go to solve issues with power consumption, smaller sizes, a comfortable way to navigate through the OS without a mouse and keyboard (in the case of the Windows handhelds), etc.
But there's Winlator and Cassia in the future (which looks very promising), so Windows gaming is possible on the Odin 2, but it's far from perfect though (but Cassia will probably improve it a lot).
We're still waiting for advancements in solid state batteries and for "solid state cooling" to make its way to mainstream markets and handhelds. When that happens, we can have better cooling and battery life in the small form factor we want.
That, and/or for a proper compatibility between ARM chips and x86/64 software for better power efficiency. Companies are *trying* recently, so we'll see.
Do You think the 4gb difference between the mini base model and the Odin 2 pro model can make a difference on PS2 emulation. I'm not sure which model would be the best choice
Could have hit a possible $249 price point using an IPS screen. Should have a model without the mini Led
Yeah, if they're gonna charge so much, just use OLED.
You’d need very expensive OLED screen to get this bright, miniled will almost be identical to OLED to at a straight on angle with this thing
Doubt it, it'd probably just be the regular Odin 2 price.
@@Necrohermit MiniLED is still lcd, no perfect blacks like oled.
Thanks Ross
Honestly very excited about the hardware, odin 2 is too large for me and this solves that quite a bit, but agree that pricing is not as great as before.
Odin 2 mini looks cool. I'm not too concerned about the ergos. I found the vita comfortable for an hour or two when playing games that didn't use the rear track pad because I could stretch my fingers across the back. Obviously the mini doesn't have a track pad so that's no problem. The other problem is that while this is definitely smaller than the Odin, is it actually small enough to appease small handheld users? The Vita was really pushing what could be considered pocketable. If this had released a few months ago I would've considered it, but given that I already have an Odin 2 pro there's no chance I'm gonna get another console.
Kept my ps vita on stand by for 2 weeks and the battery was still pretty full. Maybe I’ll wait a few years for the price to drop on the the Odin mini but hopefully by then we will get a windows handheld the same size and price. I have a weak wrist and can’t hold a steam deck for too long.
Whats got me thinking is when he said that emulators aren't being updated or developed so what would be the point of a powerful handheld only for it to use outdated emulators
I've been thinking about getting a retriod pocket 4 pro bc i like its form factor, size, and that i can also have it displayed on my tv/pc with a controller for $200 less than the mini
Hey Russ, do you know what the difference is between the base and pro Odin2mini?
So how many handhelds is enough.. I have the rg h, rgsp Iam thinking maybe a bigger one should be enough. Unless Iam getting them free how many more would you buy?
Not a fan of where the ABXY buttons are positioned. Seems like a grip will be mandatory for comfort. At least the regular Odin 2 leaves some room for comfort.
