Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6'1" Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great doing it all.
She is definitely an amazing woman! What a voice, her clarity,and her ability to not get pitchy at all, well she just blows me away.
I doesn't hurt that she is a gorgeous goddess! My goodness...she is a once in a lifetime find!
She also has her own TH-cam channel where she has more personal stuff...and more singing...I especially like her duet singing a song from "Phantom of the Opera!" It's amazing!

Her name is Floor Jansen "The Flying Dutchwoman" and she does not use what is called auto tune when singing, all of her vocals are entirely live and entirely her.

Great reaction. It looked like you were ready to pounce at the screen during the second half. Her name is Floor Jansen (she's Dutch and the band is primarily Finnish). Nightwish should always be listened to live unless there's no alternative (such as their latest album). Floor replaced the earlier singer halfway through their 2012-2013 world tour, so the album versions have one of the two previous singers on them. The last two albums were all Floor. The Wacken concert (2013) is their most reacted to, but there are three other live concerts all over TH-cam (Wembley, Tampere, and Buenos Aires), and there is not a bad track on any of them. The Nightwish army should be showing up any time, so get ready.

I suggest for your next Nightwish reaction "Ever Dream" Wacken 2013, because you need to hear Marko Hietala, the bassist, on vocals together with Floor. Their voices complement each other amazingly. If you like it heavier go for one of these. "Song of Myself", "Ghost River" or "Romanticide", Wacken 2013. Nightwish is at it's best live!

Glad to see you finally found Nightwish and Floor Jansen. I knew it would happen eventually. I have been a fan of Nightwish since 1997 but was more a fan of Floor's at the time. When she joined Nightwish in 2012 of course I followed and the matchup was unbelieveable. You deff should watch the whole Wacken concert and then move on to Beste Zangers 2019. She is more amazing than you can imagine at this point and Nightwish is just as amazing with their musicianship. True professionals all of them!

Floor is one of the rare singers who generally sounds better live than in a studio. I honestly think it's because her voice is so huge that studios have trouble accurately capturing it and it doesn't come across as well. That being said, their latest album Human | Nature she sounds phenomenal. It feels like Tuomas (the keyboard guy who writes the vast majority of their music) wrote the album very clearly with her vocals in mind and pushed the music to the very limits of what is humanly possible to do. As good as that is, I can't WAIT to hear how it sounds live knowing how much power she has in reserve. October can't come quickly enough, they're theoretically coming to LA in October, though the tour has already been delayed once due to the pandemic.
hey Dave, great reaction,& welcome, fyi never do studio for NW is one of those bands thats always better live,the whole Wacken 2013 is a seminal event so many great songs : Everdream,Storytime,Song of Myself,Romanticide,& more,NW has a MASSIVE fanbase very active on YT & very loyal, this is the greatest band & singer no one has heard of but since Floor Jansen (3rd & final singer) joined in 2012 that has changed dramatically, to see her blow you away further she did a Dutch TV show : Beste Zangers 2019 ,were some top Dutch (Floor is Dutch) singers get together & sing each others songs or songs that hold meaning to them back to one another but reinterpreted, Floor sings : Shallow,Phantom of The Opera,Vilja Lied,Winner & more

You're absolutely right this band is nothing but pure talent I've been listening play music for 40 years now and I've never seen a band this good live the writing of the material is top notch. And yes floor Jansen is a goddess I've never seen nobody with the power and Charisma she has. You should check out a song called yours is an empty hope or slaying the Dreamer. Just two of many many songs they have.

I've watched so many of his other reactions, but just realized he has never reacted to Nightwish. I love all of his reactions.
Nightwish was the brainchild Of the Keyboardist Tuomas and he composes and writes all the music and lyrics. Floor Jansen is the third lead vocalist and in my opinion the best one that fits perfectly to all the styles and emotion needed for their songs. Tarja the first lead singer had a great operatic voice but she was not as versatile in my opinion as Floor, who can do the operatic and everything else down to death Metal growls. Floor is also a Vocal coach as well. Best songs to follow this one would be Song of Myself from wacken 2013, Ghost River from Wacken 2013, Yours is an empty hope live from Wembley Arena, and Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley Arena. Here is some information to help you navigate their music. It is my standard speech...... :-)

Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band.
They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes
the lyrics for 95% of their music.
Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals.
And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen.
Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals.
Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now still is.
Nightwish has had three singers.
1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005.
The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.
The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from the Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era.

*Montreux Festival Live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette),

Floor held almost all those intro notes and phrases for 16 beats. That's four measures @4/4 time. Floor has tremendous breath control even in her high octaves.
That is how a Valkyrie Goddess, in her battle dress, controls her Army.
You mentioned Beethoven. Nightwish has something more amazing. They have "Metal Mozart" Tuomas Holopainen as their keyboardist/ composer. I believe you just experienced your first "Floorgasm" in the end when Floor Jansen (vocalist) showed little bit of skill that she has. Believe me.. you have just started a journey that will grow your channel the way you couldn't even imagined. "The army is coming". We Finns know our shit when it comes to metal and you have just scrathed the surface. Most metalbands in the world/ capita. On my behalf.. welcome to the family.
The studio version was sung by a different singer. Read up on their history, it’s an amazing story and their music reflects a lot of the emotions and events they’ve experienced over the last 25+ years they’ve been performing. would def give best zangers a looking at now there is a full show with English captions -- then you will see another side to Floor -- one that has even amazed Nightwish fans, TBH this lady when you hear more from her, you get to realize how lovely she is as a person and technical in her approach to making good music added to the shear basic talent you got something very very special indeed

Actually she IS quite majestic at 6'1" 200+lbs. I suspect her parents are quite tall also. Floor was a competitive bodybuilder in her 20s. She is 40 years old now and married with a 1y/o daughter to a member of another band who is 6'7" so you can just imagine how big that girl is going to be!

I have seen these guys live and...holy crap. They are amazing. Loved this band for nearly 16 years. They have been in it for the long haul, and so will I lol.
We all end up having a " crush " on floor after seeing and hearing her .
So you had your first Floorgasm. If you want more you have to watch the whole Wacken gig of 2013 wich is already online on TH-cam. Watch it and dive into the rabbit hole. Believe me it's much more fascinating than any other kind of music. Metal is great, metal is a music wich crossbreeds rock with classical music. I hope you will continue this journey. Bang that head that doesn't bang. :-))
You are going to get a long list from some of the major posters in the army; I highly recommend following the prescription they will give you in terms of what to view and when to make the journey simply amazing. A few reactors decided to do their own thing and break off and listen to record versions of Floor and their original singer Tarja which is a travesty- both are amazing and far better live. Neither of those two will disappoint live; I prefer Floor but Tarja was pretty awesome as well. The second singer in the band, Annette, is the exception; If you listen to her you will want to go studio as her voice is not powerful enough or clean enough life to match the symphonic sound behind her, although on record she comes through well. What you will realize as you get deeper into the band is that the rest of them are ridiculously talented and their bass player is a top talent singer in his own right (Marco). This is a very subdued melodic Nightwish in this song, outside of the lyrics which are grandiose, and a good and simple introduction to what I have discovered in the past year and sharingly tell you is the best band on Earth.

One thing about Nightwish. Their average fan is anybody. Very few brain dead people when it comes to Nightwish. They usually evoke some kind of emotion from almost anybody.
Exactly....I have listened to heavy metal/hard rock since my best friend and I walked to our local Kmart...and we split the cost to buy a Steppenwolf LP. A month or so later, we bought a Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Hendrix LP. I have been a metal maniac since the 1960's...at 63 years old...I really don't listen to anything else! Finding Nightwish was a huge surprise, since I thought that I had heard everyone...but I was wrong. Yep...a new member of the Nightwish army!!

I'd known about Nightwish for a very long time, never actually heard them until about a month or so ago from another reaction video. Now I'm always binge watching other reactions, easily one of the best bands around, I fell in love with her right from the beginning

As you listen and enjoy each song and performance by this very tight band and the individual talents of each member keep in mind it all starts with the music, and that is Tuomas the keyboard artist. He composes, writes the lyrics and arranges about 95% of their songs. I consider him to be the Hans Zimmer of metal music. No two songs are alike and each has twists and turns taking you on a musical journey. He founded the band in 1996 and is the heart and soul of the group. As you progress you will hear the amazing and unequaled diversity of Floor's vocal talent, plus great vocal work by Marko, bassist, and Troy, their multi-instrumentalist. All in all the best live performance band I've ever seen. I'm a new subscriber as I want to follow you on your Nightwish adventure. Enjoy the ride. Warm, no HOT, wishes from the high desert of Arizona.
Other commenters have advised about how the studio version had a different singer, so won't belabor that point except it's probably a good idea to learn about why she left the band. That gives a whole added dimension to the music Tuomas wrote afterwards.
Recommend reacting to Romanticide, Weak Fantasy, and Ghost River to gain a true appreciation of their other vocalist, the bassist, Marco Hietala, and how well he and Floor fit together. These songs are harder, harsher, definitely metal.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but she wasn't in the band when they recorded it. That was Tarja, their first female lead. Floor is their 3rd, so you will only hear her sing many of the hit songs Live.

She's not on the studio version. The original singer of this song was Tarja Turunen. This is Floor Jansen, who at the time of this concert, had only been in the band about a year.

The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for little over 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013, when she was 32. She started performing in the first Metal Band she was in, After-Forever, at the age of 16. After that band disbanded, she started her own band called Revamp. Which was on hiatus, when she received a call from Nightwish to take over the female lead singing duties mid-tour. The rest is herstory.

Subscribed, because I want to go on your NW trip with you! Loved your authentic reaction to this fabulous song, which was my introduction to NW almost 2 years ago. Because of Covid 19, the new album tour has been sidelined, with some Europe dates still scheduled for this year (fingers crossed for those shows) Next year, in the US, there are 2 shows in Los Angeles, 1 in NYC, and 1 in Lowell, Massachusetts (near Boston). Hopefully, something can work out for you for October, 2021. While we wait, excellent live shows, are available to quench our thirst for my favorite band. Thanks and stay safe!

This band is from Finland.
Tuomas is the keyboarder, Songwriter, composer.
Marco is playing the bass and doing also the vocals. He is very versatile and an awesome singer as well. You might watch „The Islander“ from Tampere to experience this.
Emppu is playing the guitar. He can shred it but he always does exactly that much, that is required by the song.
Kai (also Wintersun) is now at the drums and replaced the original drummer Jukka (whom you saw here) who had stop playing the drums due to health issues. But he still is with the band. Julka was a perfect drummer and showman, Kai is a perfect drummer and a machine and beast at the drums.
Then there is Troy, a multi instrumentalist from England who in older performances supported the band at some tracks but became luckily a full member of the band after this tour. He‘s a great singer as well.
Last but not least there is Floor, the Dutch singer. She is the bands third singer after Tarja (operatic) and Annett from Sweden (pop/rock). She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls
This gig was at Wacken. Wacken is THE metal festival worldwide. Nightwish were one of the headliners in 2013.
It is in the north of Germany in a rural area. Therefore the bullhead with flames is the Wacken symbol. There are more than 80.000 metalheads having a big party each year.

-> There are a couple of great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones.
-> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-)
-> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.)
-> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional)

From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. It‘s a good idea to hear the album in the given order, but nevertheless here are some of my options to some of the songs.
-->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself
--> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it.
--> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending.
-> „Pan“ is just an amazing ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“.
-> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor
--> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish.
-> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice.
--> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course.
The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world.

Beste Zangers Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do "Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on TH-cam as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them.
It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary.

* Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“
Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time.
As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears.
