    Well that didn't sound like much fun. All sunk except HMAS Hobart which my grandfather was on plus one other ship both managing to get away. I'd love to be able to ask him about all of this but that's not possible (he'd be 123 if still alive). I remember him describing to me how his Captain would lie on his back with binoculars watching bombs drop from Japanese bombers and giving directions to the helmsman to avoid Japanese bombs as described in this audio. Pa was a chief petty officer and on the pom pom guns, joined the Australian navy in 1918 and demobed in 1946 serving the entire war on the Hobart in both the Mediterranean and the Pacific.
