Dynamics are SO important to draw the listener in, and for expression...this is EXACTLY what i needed to see...and i had started to realize the necessity of 'self mixing' but the hand/ear connection is what i needed....thank you , Stephen

You know, it’s videos like this that have built up my confidence as a student and allow me to try bigger songs. These have also helped me build a smooth pocket for my own recording. Thank you.

Awesome! I do this every singe day! I put a double-sided 12" pad on my lap, and then stomp on the ground if I need to work on any indepence stuff. Practice pad is where you'll figure out all your sticking stuff most the time anyway. Great video and lesson! I really like the "forearm crusher" exercise for working on this too. Happy drumming!

Brilliant - I found the paradiddle exercise transition difficult on the left hand - but listening for the change made it easy - great content Stephen - it is much appreciated! Frank

Great instruction, thanks for posting. If we memorize the sound of a polyrhythm, does that defeat the purpose if the practice? For example, I can easily memorize and then play the Carol of the Bells 3:2 pattern. I can also instantly replay the 4:3 pattern once I hear it first. But this doesn't mean I can keep track of what each hand is doing independently. In fact, the moment I try to do that, I loose coordination.

Thank you for all your videos Stephen! I found this one really helpful, I always counted that 3:2 rhythm as 'hot cup of tea' and never felt comfortable in it so I think this will help get me to the next level in my practice.

Stephen, again great video. What size of practice pad are you using with what size snare?

That transition between hands is more difficult than it looks... thanks for a new challenge and all the other great content you are putting out there 😁

You can build a lot of skills on just the practise pad and stomping on the floor. It’s the one way I have managed to practise with a full range of motion the past months whilst stuck at home, with positive impact when I have had access to real, loud drums. These exercises look great, I will try both. You just have to practise it with intent, and focus, then the practise pad setup works for you. I know from experience that not doing so, and doing the same exercises but zoned out, thinking about something else, focus being on Netflix etc, doesn’t work, I didn’t improve nearly as much when I did that. I prefer doing 1h of focused practise over 4H of sloppy practise. Long live the practise pad!

Thank you, as always. My coordination issues seem more between my arms and my feet. Meaning feet by themselves, fine, hands by themselves, fine, both together and one or the other isn't doing things properly.
    Any practice recommendation?

why are accents written above notes instead of over each note individually? It makes it look like an the accent is for all notes played on that beat as opposed to say, just one of them

Hi i have been drumming for about a week and can play all the beginner beats and am getting used to drumming but i am right handed and i hit the hi hat with my left and and snare with my right I’ve tried switching but it doesn’t seem natural. Do you think i should learn the real proper way or does it not really matter?

One hand said 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, and then the other hand said 1 ,2, 1, 2, and then time shattered and I fell off my chair.. Pay per view level stuff right here!
