I'm 69 and getting back into drumming. Last time I played, i was in my early 20's (before getting a career.) His free PDF is great and this video will definitely help.
Definitely has to be “Whiteout”. Great video Stephen. I don’t think you’ll get too many comments about “could have done the video in a tenth of the time” with this one 👍
Playing my toms is not a problem. Playing with only one up one down is. When forced to do such a task on a "house" kit, I find myself wondering how to change my muscle memory on the fly. Especially when things aren't adjusted to me such as tone and placement of toms. Although I suffer through it and I often wonder why cutting four strings off a guitar isn't considered the same thing. I grew up hearing awesome tom fills that I will never hear again with most of the drummers out there. One up one down is what I call a cookie cutter kit and is very boring to me. Drummers need to step it up and just say no to cookies. Give me variety like Avenged Sevenfold, Phil Collins, Godsmack, Van Halen, Dave Matthews Band etc etc. The more toms the more interesting music becomes. Power to the players!
I'm such a non glam drummer (beginner) Thanks this is helpful, I don't have cymbals yet so I continue to practice using only TOMS, SNARE & BASS. 👍
Veteran drum teacher here.
I didn’t expect this lesson to be that good.
🙏🙏
Great inspiration for my lessons.
So good. I am going to be better in Jesus name You have taught me a lot. Thank you sir. I am 81 years old and still playing the drums.
66 and still playing myself lol
Why is it RLR both only once to start and then it becomes RLRLboth repeatedly thereafter?
@@kimlombard2676
Because there is a RL at the end of the bar, and then you start at the beginning.
And then it’s actually
RLRLR both
repeatedly.

@@Frank1979ZappaThank you. I get it now!
Thank you for the lesson!
Thank you for your knowledge, always appreciate learning something new or something I've been working on from your videos

Nice one, thanks!
My favorite "toms song" is definitely Set The Control For The Heart Of The Sun by Pink Floyd.
This song got me into tom grooves. Saucerful of secrets has a cool combo of "marching band snare" and tom groove too
Ticks and leeches , Tool , best Tom snare grove ever!
It's not my favorite, but the song Down With The Sickness has a really big hook in it.
are those Ks dark custom or ?
Lol I’ve never really had an issue with toms because I play quads now cymbals on the other hand 0:26
So does Godsmack's Straight Out of Line.
This is the Disturbed Down with the Sickness beat.
The ONLY tom song I know is "Maps" from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

You should figure out how to divide up your videos like this into chapters so we can go to the section easier.
Wipeout!
