- Sharing my DIY camping tent and tarp waterproofing. All items an be bought at Ace Hardware or Online. This is a silicone base waterproofing which is better and cheaper than commercially available solution

Can you test how long last the silicone application? I have a cheap tent from walmart that has like 500 mm of water, do you know the columne mm when apply the solution?

Winoworry ko kasi . Ung silicon ng bag ko nag expire so probably ung tent ko mag expire din ung nylon. Now wala na ako dapat ie worry. Very nice

I think this solution is not toxic, just give 2 days of drying time.

You can also mix silicone with white spirit then brush it on then let it dry ,the white spirit will evapourate leaving the silicone

I didn't test yet but it's silicone,I expect it will last longer compared to ready solutions like nikwax

Does this at any point make the tent sticky? I have a octagon 8 Coleman that failed this past w-end. Looking at how I should go about waterproofing it.
You should dry it well and apply right amount not to thick.
The tent probably failed at the seams before it failed anyplace else so I’d seam seal the seams very well and then spray the tent with a good silicone water proffer made for the material your tent is made of and then treat the tent after every 5th time u use it unless it didn’t get wet then you could go a little longer

Are the spray water repellents…and using the method here just for the seams…safe on all fabrics?

use mineral spirits instead
Can I use lacquer thinner instead of silicon water repellant?
You can use it but it needs long drying time to be able to eliminate the toxic smell of lacquer thinner..
Is that just regular silicone caulking?

1.Did you apply on the inside or outside of the tent?
2.would it crack if you fold the then for storage?

I only applied it on the external part of the tent, it did not cracked if folded, just be sure to dry it completely to eliminate the stickyness.

Mhirap makakuha mineral spirit sa pinas, kya Yan ginawa ko replacement, umubra nman
Most diy waterproofing uses mineral spirits to mix with the silicon. Why silicon water repellant instead?
Mineral spirits are hard to find in the Philippines.

Shoe Goo is one of the best things to use for a seam sealer

Yes I applied it on my tarp with printed logo, it doesn't affect the color..

Hi sir! Looks legit Ang much cheaper than buying those waterproofing sprays. Try ko talaga to sa classic tent ko (Coleman Pioneer 2 Tadpole Tent). Naisip ko lang sir pwede rin kaya kung gawin ko solution sa Isang timba then ilubog ko lang yung rainfly? Although mukhang mas Marami Ako uubusin materials pero mas sure na inside & outside maaaplayan na agad. Di ko nga lang rin sure gaano ko sya katagal dapat i-soak sa solution?

Not advisable to soak, mahirapan matuyo and mas ok if rainfly lang and Yung expose part ng tent.

it says silicone why do you have to add more silicone?
The premixed silicone solution is not enough to achieve right waterproofing for canvass or tents.
Titigas po ba or bibigat ang layer ng tent na papahidan ng silicon?
Medyo mag add mg weight but Hindi Siya significant increase.Hindi naman tumigas.

As of now I don't see cracks and stickiness as long as you have dried it well

Tents, clothes, boots must "breathe", apply only on the seams.
It's advisable to leave a window down anyway for condensation etc?
