All you need is silicone and white spirit , i was amazed how easy , cheap and effective it was

That extra 'lid' for admin etc is a work of genius, the waterproofing seems to have worked well and the added bonus to this is that you've waterproofed the inside of the bottle too.
I cut it long so i could have a pocket for padding on the back,... But i cocked it up sewing it on and now its too long... Bodging is the mother of invention

That bag is epic
Can't wait to see how waterproof that bag is.
Nice 1 nobby awesome looking hammock.
The water beads off it perfectly, time will tell how well it lasts

Seam seal my tents & tarps with a similar diy mix. Maybe slightly thicker. For fabric waterproofing I use thomsons silicon building sealer. Comes in 5l cans in screwfix.
Yeah, Thomsons is good stuff,, I'm suprised how well it worked and is still working,.. It was a bit of a lockdown experiment with what I had at home, I will use that method again

how much spirit do you use for 5l? and is there anything else you add?
Is the Thompson stuff now called one coat water seal?
Ooh that looks well smart - very impressed with the design - thanks for sharing this with us please stay safe and well sending regards 👏❤️😁xx
Thanks guys 👍👍👍
That is great waterproofing on that bag and quick and easy to make the solution. The bag is OK for collecting stuff to take back to camp if you have it emptied out first.
Yes, Im really surprised how easy it was to do, quick with no mess or fuss,
Thanks for watching

Hahahahaha nice one Bruce. Liked the ending as well
Nod to your epic inventing
@@WildGingerBruce I gathered
Great idea for diy waterproofing but what about smell once it dries?
No smell at all once the spirit evaporated, its still working well and i use the bag weekly
@@WildGingerBruce That's great thankyou, I now have my weekend project.
Nice one. That looks a great tool for the job. I like the idea of the box in the bottom too. Clever! 👍🏻
Thanks buddy, Im really pleased with it, time will tell how i get on with it,

Like the haversack well done Bruce nice one take care and stay safe 👍
Thanks Andrew,
Im surprised how well it turned out
Did you make this bag because if you did except for the lid straps being backwards very nice job.
Yeah i made it, was tinkering during lock down, its still going strong and i use it weekly, thanks

Well Done and Bloody Brilliant Sir, Les.
Brilliant waterproofing idea. I must try this one. 👍
Thank you for watching
Atb Bruce
Excellent! I"m assuming you still have it? Great stuff sir!
Still have the bag, but it needs reproofing again tbh,
Atb Bruce
Great bag & much better way of mixing silicone mix in a bottle like that rather than sloshing it a round in an old tub!
So simple, im suprised i haven't done it before,
i was looking at making tin cloth, but ive run out of linseed oil so its one for a future vid

are you still using this haversack? how has the waterproofing holding up?
I took it on my recent trip to Romania, and got caught in heavy rain, the contents stayed dry, but the top of the lid needs reproofing on the sides the rest is fine
How does every Tuber know the Slingshot channel guy? Haha
Awesome bag Bruce ..nice one 👍🏻
Thanks chris
is it posible to use paint thinner rather than mineral spirit? ive red that they are the same. mineral spirit are expensive in my country
It should work... Anything that will evaporate and leave the silicone behind
Top tip and video thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching Wes, hopefully ill get out and test it soon

Hi, what was the fabric for hammock? thanks for replay ... nice movie BTW
Its rip stop nylon, same as parachute material, ill have to check the dimensions, but its needs to be as wide as you can get,
Thanks for watching
Atb Bruce
how do you wash or maintain it ? i put it on the inside of a jacket then put the lining over it
It's just a kit bag, I've never washed it I just brush off mud once it's dry. If I did need to wash it I would only use warm water and baking soda as soap might cause damage to the coating
very nice information
Excellent project. ATB
Thanks Abe 👍
is it dangerous to fire? spirits made me nervous..
Not at all, the spirit evaporates leaving just the silicone behind
Is this still in service after 2 years?
Yes, its had a lot of use, but it will need reproofing this year
Does it make the haversack fire resistant since its silicone?
Er? Yeah Probably? but let the white spirit dry off first🤣🤣
@@WildGingerBruce great tip.
Much appreciated video even if it looks like an excuse for garnishing your equipment with sticky white love piss.Have an old 110 PLCE bergen that needs to be proofed when I sober up (give it another 20 years).Cheers for the upload :)
Yes, it deffo looks like a baby batter, but i was very impressed with how easy it was to do, just wing it with no measuring

You can add dyes to it yknow.
Let me show you its features 😂 good vid mate
Thanks Phill, gotta love a bit of slingshot channel 😇
Hope all is good your end
Atb Bruce
How long does this last?
Ive no idea, but my bag still repels water, and use it weekly,... Its been 2 years so far
@@WildGingerBruce That's pretty good.
Like water off a ducks arse.
Im really impressed, just curious how long it will last
Thanks for watching

I’m sorry, I missed the ratio.
Just bung it in untill its the consistency of cough syrup, all the white spirit will evaporate and leave the silicone behind
Atb Bruce
What is white spirit? The jokes are too easy. But seriously, I don't know.
