That guitar riff has been kicking about since 1999,so It was a nice surprise to see it turned into a full song. I don't think Chirs has been in control of his bass effects for years.
Totally agree with your review - this song was never meant to be anything other than simple. This was a riff they have been using as an outro for over a decade and they felt like it deserves to be put into a song. It's a great opener for a live show that's for sure!
The roots of this song are nothing more than a riff they played at the end of other songs so it has an easy modest genesis and I'm glad they kept it simple.
They're not using automated effects. They have a sound engineer on stage with them. Famous Marc Carolan. If you don't know him, you should look him up. Also, you will soon review BBTS. They're prog metal and do the same thing. They have a sound engineer on stage with them. Edit: You can briefly see him behind Chris towards the end.
Solid reaction, DH! This song opened the Mayan show, which was the venue for the video of 'Assassin' that you reacted to (and loved). It draws the whole crowd in so its simplicity serves that purpose well. The Drones album (Psycho is track #2) is loaded with good stuff and the official 'Drones Tour' was an over-the-top production, often played in the round. I've found that Muse has several different gears when it comes to stage presence. Keep up the good work!
David I'm feeling it. You are loving Muse and you will love them even more. It passed the respect part and you can't hide the emotions and your face turns red because you smile alot 4 times in a row now! Video after another video and you are enjoying Muse so much. If you have a Muse album and you are playing their songs you would definitely will become a fan anytime soon. I mean when you were at the restaurant with the Mrs. and you were like this is hysteria! You might not know that you are in love with Muse but deep down you know it. 🤗🤗🤗 This makes me happy so much. Love you man. Love the reaction thank you for making the weekend worth it for me. Peace 🤘🤘
Great review. Didn't expect anything above 9 as you're right. It's a simple but effective song. A song that Muse had been teasing on outros for so long. I think it's similar to a RATM song.
Go check out concert video of the Drones Tour. The song Handler is over the top high tech. A Canadian Co. called Moment Factory took on this huge production, never before seen in a concert venue.. they actually had to invent the visual techniques that Muse asked for and stepped up big time. The puppet hands controlling Matt & Chris 50 ft. above the stage is a head banging experience you will never forget.
As for all the programming, Muse pay (pays?) a lot of attention to detail with this. They have such a great production, for me it more than offsets the cons of being tied to a click track. It ends up allowing Matt to have better stage presence. They use it for panning left-right during certain solos (the recent reaction you did to Unnatural Selection had panning in the guitar solo, pretty sure). They use it for the drum mics as well. It's not aways perfect, it sometimes results in errors, like a cymbal being way too loud for Supermassive Black Hole live, until someone backstage (or Morgan on stage?) fixes it, usually within seconds). I definitely know too much about Muse. This song is about programming, by the way!
It's true that simplistic can make a killer song. Their two highest listened to songs are "Uprising" and "Psycho." I love both, but give me "Citizen Erased," "Newborn," "Knights of Cydonia," etc, etc...
Hi Dave! Great review, somehow your review make songs more enjoyable. Maybe is the technical analysis perspective. Keep it up, hopefully we get to see more (muse) as this channelnrocks and thank you for keeping it fun and simple and as long as it is fun for you and make sense to you it will continue being a great channel. I wish you more and more subscribers in the months to come. Added: Also, if you could put in your long therm list Invincible live at wembley and Darkshines studio version remix (it's an actual remaster) I think you would find those interesting.
You are right, Matt uses a midi pedalboard and his actual pedals are backstage, its really cool because he has all the presets for every song on the setlist ready to go in his pedalboard thats so f smart
Yes, the famous Psycho. Simple but addictive and with one of the oldest riffs in the band. Another live Muse song to react to is The Small Print. An aggressive and fast song with a great performance on stage that I think will be your favorite. This is the video: th-cam.com/video/TiTCGPvtbQ0/w-d-xo.html Greetings from Argentina, David!
Told ya you'd like it. The "Drones" album gives you the best fun time with some in-your-face Rock :) You enjoyed "Defector", you enjoyed "Psycho". You are most probably gonna enjoy "Reapers" and "The Handler" as well. And you will probably appreciate "The Globalist", though I'm not sure if this might strike your nerve as well.
One of the past reviews you did on a live version of a Muse song that you heard before you very critical ...and rightfully so. But the one cool part of that lower score video you gave was that when the song ended, the outro was this Psycho riff before Psycho was even written. They wrote the song because it was such a great riff they messed around with.
One of my favorite Muse songs. Great reaction. The main riff is very reminiscent of Rob Zombie Pussy Liquor. Almost the same exact thing, just a different tempo.
Just a small note, but it's "Ross-KIL-duh" festival. Huge outdoor festival in Denmark. As a Pearl Jam fan, sadly, the name is indelibly linked with the deaths of 9 fans at the 2000 Roskilde festival when the crowd surged forward during PJ's set and a barrier broke. That said, this Muse song is REALLY fun to listen to, and I love the swing beat to it!
The members of Muse have a great sense of humour and you can see that in some of their songs including this one. It's just an all out silly song you can just have fun with.
Once again I'm throwing out a fishing line: Orbit Culture - Mast of The World. They have a lot of styles in their music (trash, tech, death, atmospheric). Worth checking out if you're interested.
Absolutely, but at the same time I don't want to ruin any possible reactions. That's the catch-22 of doing a reaction channel if you make real, genuine, honest reactions.
When you predicted "show me your war face" I was astonished. I did a triple take, because I was certain that line hadn't happened yet. Sure enough, you just nailed the reference, and I loved your reaction when the line finally happened! Great stuff DH!
@@wewantthecup Hope you didn't take that offensively man as that wasn't my intention. I just thought it was obvious that was what Muse were referencing from I first heard the song. Have a good one😁

I did a reaction for "Reapers" already, and it got blocked. It's up on the Patreon page if you wanna check it out, totally up to you.
Many muse songs take me a few listens to get into them but this was one I liked immediately

The riff of the song is a riff that they actually usted several times as an outro before they turned in as a riff of this song…

I only see react of MUSE The Globalist in Glastonbury 2016 the lyrics, the lyrics have everything to do with the current war

Do you take TH-cam requests? The Handler from the bottlerock festival please :)
I do take requests, all requests have to be made on the Patreon page as a Bronze Tier member or higher.
I'm sure he does go falsetto for "a fucking psycho" there's just a lot of distortion and compression on the mic
Do you think you've started to enjoy Muse enough at this point that you'd consider listening to a full album in your own time?
Absolutely, but at the same time I don't want to ruin any possible reactions. That's the catch-22 of doing a reaction channel if you make real, genuine, honest reactions.
