    I usually just use a clicky pen instead of a proper clicker, my cat doesn't seem to know the difference anyway so it's a win for the both of us.

    Solid advice. I'm currently owned by seven cats and like their predecessors they all quickly picked up on phrases, words, sounds, and gestures.
    Plus the clicker (I use my tongue). If I precede the click with a name, I get that cat's attention. If I do five to seven rapid clicks without a name every cat in the room focuses on me and usually they approach, waiting to see what's up.
    Two are harness trained, and two younger ones are still in training. The outdoors is full of stimulation so it takes a bit longer to get them into that routine.
    Cats are extremely smart and if given attention will seek to please. We've never had any who knocked things over, scratched at good furniture, et cetera. They want to see us happy because we keep them happy and safe.

      @@K4113B4113 We switched from treat rewards to twice per day treats. Our reward for tricks is extra attention and talking. We had the same experience as you do with using treats to motivate.
      Their dynamic is interesting. Our current eldest learned from Bob, our (regretfully gone to his reward) cat. From there the rest have learned by watching their elders.
      Even though they're from five different mothers and they span 10 years overall they all have a lot of Bob's habits, likes, and dislikes. From kittenhood Bob got a lot of human attention (which he loved) so he was eager to please. We used "pleased voice" and "disappointed voice" to deter bad habits and to reward good ones. He passed that on.
      Sorry if I'm blathering. I hope you find a method that works for you and your cat. 😺

  • @reneedebock3205
    @reneedebock3205 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your channel is amazing! I am starting training but one thing is not clear to me. Once your cat knows the trick do you have to keep using the clicker every time she does the trick? One more question, if our cat knows how to do a trick with me, will it also work with other people like my daughters for example?

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cats react to our commands because there's an expectation of a treat. If you never reward a behavior outside a training session, the expectation of a treat outside the training session is non-existant and thus, there's no motivation to comply.
      My recommendation is to reward intermitently outside sessions. Not always, but sometimes. This will increase the expectation. Intermitent reinforcement is a very strong motivator (think about gambling and casinos) hope this helps!
      and to the second question, yes! Once your cat knows a trick they will know it no matter who is asking. They might require some tries until the cat gets the accent and tone but eventually they will understand and as they know the trick, they will perform it.

    • @LilSayo
      @LilSayo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marm_ I have different snacks that he likes from moderate to insane. I get both snacks that dont cause much excitement and the ones he goes crazy for. Then I wait for him when he's calm and not tired and take him to a room with minimum distractions. I repeat the command a few times and show him myself. Then I take my cat's paw and repeat the command a few times while moving his paw the way I want it and praise him as if its him who did the command. And after a few times I give him the moderate snack. Once I see that he begins to lose interest I pull out the super snack and he's back in the game. it takes me about 5-10 tries to teach him a new trick. Older cat needed about 20-30 minutes.

    I am afraid to confuse my cat by using the open hand, which I also use for the command "stay".
    If I am not mistaken, you also use the same gesture for that. How do you make sure she understands the difference?
    The voice command difference alone does not seem to do the trick - and she is showing to be much slower learning this (having associated the open hand to: do nothing), than other complex tricks like hopping on the shoulder.

    • @OutdoorBengal
      @OutdoorBengal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! I believe this is something that's hard to achieve if your parents don't see the value of a pet. I would recommend you to talk with your parents and understand WHY they don't want a cat. Then try to understand the WHY again. You might get enough information to offer a solution to their WHY's.
      Example:
      - Why don't you want a cat?
      - Because it's a big responsibility
      - Why don't you want us to have. big responsibility?
      - Because it costs a lot of time and money.
      - Why do you need more time and money?
      - To pay for your college.
      - Why do you want to pay for my college?
      - Because we want you to be successful.
      - Okay, what if I bring home all A's by the end of 2022? Can I get a cat then?
      Then is your job to show your parents that you are a responsible young adult :)

    OMG, Bengals aren't anything like a domestic. They are smarter, stronger, and have deep personality structures that very few domestics can ever match.
    Calling a Bengal a Cat is terribly misleading. My Bengal was amazing, he was only 2nd generation though, and boy did we have rough times. It all worked out, but I never once thought I would end up in a full blown fight for my place as boss in my own apartment. If you have ever been attacked by a full sized domestic feline, double that and imagine it knows kung fu. So please make sure if you read this and are looking into a Bengal to verify yours is at least a 3rd or 4th pairing. 5th and up is better. Good luck.

    Sorry but I don't think my cat understands he needs to touch my hand at all
    So how do I make it understand that's the point?
    Like sit... You put u your hand behind their head making them sit
    But this
    You say high 5
    They don't understand that
    This video seems pointless to me

      You need to put the treat in your hand. hold it there. your cat will try to grab it. when they touch the hand, click and reward.
      Hope this helps!

    This is not a common house cat... This is misleading.

      It’s called a Bengal. You can do this with different cats too. That’s like saying you can only train ONE breed of dog
