Bard is already a powerful class but I cant help but think to build for 19-20 being Divination Wizard. All the Bard Goodness but when you really want that Feeblemind to work you make it happen.
I normally totally disagree when someone suggests something is a must pick e.g. "You have to pick Agonizing Blast on a Warlock" , "You have to pick Counterspell as a 6th level Magical Secrets on Lore Bard", "You have to pick Fireball". But in this instance, Wish is just such a good spell that nothing else for 18th level Magical Secrets (or just 9th level spells in general) comes particularly close.
It is difficult to pass up the ability to duplicate the effect of any spell of 8th lvl or lower for an action and no material cost. We need some extra firepower Simulacrum without the 1500 GP charge. Your party's Cleric was killed Resurrection without the diamond. You need a defensible position/base you have about a half dozen choices depending on preference and/or location.
@@onpursuit2506 that isn't the best part of Wish. You might be able to make components but if you are the only one left alive in your party wishing for that Raise Dead, or Resurrection can't happen if all you can do is make the Diamond for the spell Wish the Healer back to life and then build defenses until you get everyone back up. Or you need a strong deterrent Wish for Spirit Guardians or a resilient sphere even a tiny hut from a 9th lvl spell is a good defense even against Dispel Magic. Burn a 9th lvl or chance rolling 19+ or use it for Simulacrum have it burn its spells for Defenses and possibly the sacrifice to save the Party. In the end components are good but the spell is better 80% of the time
One important spell not mentioned here in the 8th level spell slot: Glibness. It sets your minimum roll on the d20 to a 15 when making a Charisma check for 1 hour as a nonconcentration effect. Not only is this obviously amazing in social situations, particularly when factoring in a bard's access to Expertise, but it makes bards one of the most effective lategame counterspellers and dispellers, as the ability check made by a bard's counterspell (should they presumably pick that up with their magical secrets) or dispel magic is indeed a Charisma check. A bard that reaches this level should definitely have a 20 in their Charisma score, which would make their minimum counterspell check a 20 (15 + 5), which would automatically counter or dispel spells from 9th level and below at the cost of a 3rd level slot.
It would actually be 23 due to the fact that a Counterspell/Dispel Magic check applies Jack of All Trades. So, basically guarentees a success with a 3rd level slot. I mean, it would anyway, but no kill like overkill!
> which would automatically counter or dispel spells from 9th level and below at the cost of a 3rd level slot. Well, at the cost of a 3rd level slot *and* an 8th level slot. You could also just cast counterspell at 8th level, so you really need to get more than one or two spells countered to make it worthwhile.
@@xthebumpx you don't get it, Glibness requires no concentration and is active for an hour, that's 600 combat rounds, so for 600 rounds, ALL spell slots from 3rd and above, work as counterspell, not just once. how many high level slots are you willing to spend for 1 8th level? How many spells does the BBEG have? if the answer is more than one, you've just saved on higher tier spellslots. besides doing it like this, you're still left with your 9th level spellslot should a Meteor Swarm or Power Word Kill be used.
That would be great, having the villain cast it in return, and the result being a huge song and dance number. Heck, if I were were the DM, I'd have people roll dance checks instead of rolling with disadvantage.
I immediately imagined a pale feeble mage character dressed in colorful robes and stuff who stars killing the floor with disco moves and casts chromatic orbs and color sprays to make it even groovier
I have a kobold lore bard with a 1 level dip into knowlage cleric of bahamut (or Tamara if the setting allows, I love obscure dragon Gods). If I ever get her to 20th level/if she gets the chance to retire, I love the idea of her True Polymorphing permanently into a gold or silver dragon to be seated next to her deity.
SeanMcGCostumes One of my best friends plays a Bard in a game I am DMing. We made the joke that he wears ABBA-style platform shoes, so we now jokingly call his Bard the similarly named Discomancer
I wish I could take credit for this strategy, but I found another broken use for True Polymorph, and that's to create an undead army. Use it to turn into an Atropal from Tomb of Annihilation. It's only CR 13. The Atropal has a recharge (6) ability called Summon Wraith. It materializes one within 30ft of the Atropal. The language of the ability states that they don't vanish unless reduced to 0 HP and obey the *summoner* not the Atropal specifically. This mechanically lets you summon one every 36 seconds, making approximately 100 Wraiths, reverting back at the last second to continue maintaining control over them while not being stuck in that body. Additionally, each Wraith can target of up to 7 corpses, raising them as Specters under their control. That's up to 800 undead under your control with no time limit. Use this to either get a powerful fighting force in less than an hour before a climactic battle, or daily in your lair to get a powerful ghostly army.
Would love to add that Glibness is an absolutely amazing spell for bards. At level 15 with a +5 proficiency (+2 with Jack of All Trades) and a 20 Charisma, it let's you use a 3rd level slot to automatically Counterspell or Dispel Magic any spell. (theoretically, even a level 12 spell)
I'd love to see a video specifically for magical secrets. I know you have a lot of other "best high level spells" type videos, but focusing on ones you could NOT get as a Bard, UNLESS you take for magical secrets would be really interesting. Also since they come at different levels/tiers of play, that's another dynamic. Pretty please?
I think there's more than 500 spells in the game and less than 40 have the caster make spell attack rolls, with a lot of them being cantrips, so that's less than 10% of the spell list.
True polymorph is such an excellent spell. My favourite use of this was when a friend of mine was on top of a dragon slashing away at them. They had drunk a potion of growth so were 15ft tall, so I true polymorphed them into a 15ft cube of lead and crushed the dragon’s spine!
As a lore Bard who is stressing out about picking magical secrets, I appreciate this video. At least I won't have to stress about which high level Bard spells to pick.
Level 6 I really like Counterspell and Find Steed. Level 10 I like Wall of Force and Find Greater Steed (lol you get it before the paladin, also Pegasus are cool, and you can swap out Find Steed for another Bard spell). Level 14 my favorites are Magic Jar and Simulacrum. Level 18 hands down, no contest, you get Wish and Mass Heal.
The way I play Lore Bard is to start as Divine Soul Sorcerer 1 for Constitution saves and Favored by the Gods, then Lore Bard to 5, take Hexblade for armor + shield, then Bard 6 take Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon - you have the best Cleric damage setup, except with better concentration save and charisma Booming Blade. At Bard 10 I take Wall of Force and Counterspell, then another level of Hexblade for Eldritch Blast + Agonizing Blast. At Bard 14 I take Find Greater Steed and Contingency.
If you want a good guide. There is a TH-camr that made a video on it, his channel is Treatmonks temple. I believe that counterspell should probably be a top pick but even spells like find familiar, mirror image and spiritual weapon can be good. Just try to stay away from concentration spells
@@christianrossel4123 I don't know if I would take mass heal unless there is no Cleric. I am fond of True Polymorph because at lvl 18 you can. Make a party member or a Simulacrum a walking Statue of Waterdeep or with some research you can find all the creatures that have the ability to change form and make I think 3-5 layers of changes with CR16 or better. There is also the use of it to make Shield Guardians which I would add extra cheese by using the guardian to store Summon Greater Demon and have a Bulgara because if I can get my spell DC to 20 the Bulgara can't save. So this is better for Warlocks with a Rod of the Pactkeeper you could also kill magic combats with them by storing Counterspell.
Symbol for damage, then forcecage to hold the enemies in place, then down to the tavern for a round or two if your opponents had ridiculously high HP and might survive that long.
I would suggest Glibness as an 8th level spell if you picked up Counterpell with your Magical Secrets. Counterspell requires a spellcasting ability check, which is a Charisma check for Bards, and Glibness gives a minimum of 15 on the dice for a Charisma check. A Bard with +4 Charisma and Glibness can counter any level spell without the possibility of failure
Lore Bard (additional Magical Secrets) + Magic Initiate feat + Ritual Caster feat gives you a huge spells list. Use the Ritual Caster for things you're unlikely to use in battle or already take longer to cast (Tiny Hut or Identify are ones I often cast ritually so as not to burn spell slots. It's also a good place to put find familiar, which you can then magical secrets an inflict wounds and have a familiar that can do stupid amounts of touch damage from a distance. Being able to use inflict wounds as a distance spell is stupid.). Also, Eye Bite is really underrated. It's so good. In re: Otto's Irresistable Dance - Did this to a hill giant. Very handy. Also, since I had the giant doing the Macarena, it was just a hilarious visual.
One of the best things about psychic scream is that, like steel wind strike (not a bard spell), it lacks verbal components. When used in conjunction with silence, then, you can absolutely beat on enemy spellcasters. It is also a good choice to give to enemy spellcasters in the event that your bard overuses/abuses silence.
I once pitted three lvl 20s against 8 Balors in an encounter. One of them was a bard. They cast Psychic scream, and Balors have no legendary resistance and only a +5 int save, which at lvl 20 is low. There was no encounter after that as they literally ALL failed their saves and were stunned for the entire time the party beat the crap out of them.
One thing i want to point out particularly with mass suggestion in a social situation is that unless you are a sorcerer using subtle spell the ACT of casting a spell, particularly on the kings advisors in the example given is that it is a VERY obvious you are casting something on them. The king and his advisors might not know exactly what spell you are casting but they are absolutely aware that *something* was done and the guards probably aren't going to take very kindly to you trying to magic the kings court. A lot of people forget that the verbal component of a spell is not simply the sentence or two used to command them, its you speaking a bunch of arcane gibberish and THEN giving the command sentence
Gonna make some guesses here, Mass Suggestion (Monty), Forcecage (you both agree), Mind Blank (Monty), Glibness (Kelly, this one is a bit shaky though), True Polymorph (Monty), Psychic Scream (Kelly). Edit: Since glibness didn't come up, I shall explain what makes it amazing. First, the obvious, very useful in social situations, especially when trying to get through with lies. It does have one more very potent use, specifically when fighting against other casters. The specific wording of Glibness is: "Until the spell ends, when you make a Charisma check, you can replace the number you roll with a 15." If you use Counterspell (Dispel Magic as well) as a charisma caster with Glibness active, your minimum roll for the check is a 15, this means that with a charisma of 18+ (which a lvl 15+ Bard should definitely have) your Counterspell checks can't fail, even against 9th level spells.
Technically your minimum spellcasting ability check with Glibness up at 15th level is 17+Charisma Mod, because of Jack of All Trades. It then maxes out at 18+Charisma Mod. Not that it matters either way. But yeah I agree, a Glibness is situational but totally underrated.
Can't believe there was no mention of Glibness, besides it's usefullness for Charisma skills, and that whole idea of using it for counterspells and dispel magics, the fact magic can't tell you're lying is really useful in some social situations.
Gotta second mind blank- great long-term, no concentration buff, and in my experience at the level you get it, the protection it provides comes into play even more often than you think it will. If nothing else, trading a 8th level slot to keep the 8 wis Barbarian uncharmable 24/7 is often worth it.
Hi Dungeon Dudes! Thank you so much for so many bard videos. I never appreciated the bard until 5e and now it's absolutely my favorite class. Bards can be anything and everything I appreciate your insights on how to make the class even more fun. Thank you!
So like, i’ve never sat in or participated in a single campaign of DnD. That being said, my first game will be on Sunday of this week. I’ve been watching so many of your videos- How you guys communicate, work together, speak so respectfully but also with amusement and rank with what you speak of- It’s all just fantastic. Thank you so much for your time and passion.
One advantage of Mind Blank is actually that it combines *amazingly* well with sources of Invisibility. While creatures with natural Truesight and Blindsight will still be able to find you, no one using See Invisibility or the Truesight spell can, because those are Divination spells! In fact most ways of finding an obscured or invisible creature are Divination spells, so Mind Blank is the best tool in a stealthy character's arsenal. (And you *do* get Expertise, so you can get stealth buffs out the wazoo. True Polymorph into a creature with a good source of constant invisibility, like an Invisible Stalker, and you'll be untouchable all day.) Also, the permanent duration of True Polymorph is notably different than an instantaneous duration. This means it can be dispelled, and still goes away if you hit 0 HP. So it's not as solid of an auto-kill button on enemies as it looks, but it's actually an amazing pre-big-battle buff for your party, since there's barely any tactical downside to starting the fight as a party of dragons.
You can also use Glibness and just cast it 3rd level to successfully counter all spells if you have 18 Charisma or more. Wizards are masters of all magic? Bard: a wizard and a bard walk into a bar...
@@rafaelbordoni516 you dont even need 18 charisma you need 14 the other +2 will come from jack of all trade. but then the Villan may cast counter spell on your counter spell and ruin the fun "not saulty about how this became a standered option for the DM NOT AT ALL"
Mass suggestion can be used to give your enemies at least 2 points of suggestion. if you cast it and tell your targets to dance they will have to dance for 24 hours without sleeping and they get at least 1 point of exhaustion from both sources. Afterwards they will be easily overwhelmed.
For teleport, on the mishap table, it says associated object gives a 100% chance of success. The way i run that is take a rock from the location. When u cast the spell hold the rock and u bamf there

Programmed illusion: Every song your bard knows can be teamed with this spell on their musical instrument of choice with some creativity, dedication and persistence. The spell is permanent unless dispelled, and you can set the first few notes to trigger an entire 5 minute backing band/choreography/full production performance custom designed for each specific song's theme. BOOM, instant "live" music video performances from ONE bard on the stage. This is a no brainier must have for every bard IMO. Level 11 should be when you become an instant legend in the barding world, or catapult you even further had your bard already made a name for themselves. Mordenkainen's magnificent mansion: Luxury pocket dimension wherever the hell you are when you decide you are done for the day? I cant imagine a more ideal high level spell for a vagabond lifestyle bard. Another must have among the high level bard spells.
Mirage Arcane is an amazing spell if you have the time for it. The size of the area alone is amazing, but the illusions don't work like most illusions, they exist to a greater extent, providing physical support from an illusory tree for example. Although I would check how your DM rules it.
I like True Polymorph or Shapechange as a last hurrah for the Bard, Druid, or Warlock as you know them. Using the spell to permanently transform themselves into a greater creature or reach their true potential self.
As for the 9th Level selection, Foresight is actually an ideal self buff for my Human Sword Bard Ex-Marine I’m currently playing in a long term campaign. The DM let me take the Silvery Barbs spell with the Fey Touched feat, and later the Lucky feat because of how we worked them into my character’s backstory with connections to an Archfey. If you add Foresight on top of that, I’ll become an absolute controller of my, and my Party’s fate on the battlefield. All while performing the most beautiful sword dance. I even took on my own little personal quest to restore a broken, once magical, Rainbow Rapier. I plan on using that as my (Fey) Hexblade weapon when I eventually find the right time in the story to Multiclass into Warlock.
Ok ok here me out on this... For 8th level, I personally picked Glibness. Here is the spell description if you don’t know: Until the spell ends, when you make a Charisma check, you can replace the number you roll with a 15. Additionally, no matter what you say, magic that would determine if you are telling the truth indicates that you are being truthful. By the time you’ll have get 8th level spell slots, as a bard you should have at least a +14 to Persuasion or Deception, or both! So let’s say you go to a king that rules the land and tell him that you are the rightful ruler of the throne as decreed by the gods themselves. (REMEMBER THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE SPELL “Additionally, no matter what you say, magic that would determine if you are telling the truth indicates that you are being TRUTHFUL”) and you a roll a 10 on your d20, replace it with a 15 (if you want) and then add your bonus. So you should have around 26-32 in total! You are now the new king of an empire. I would know, I did this and got myself an uncomfortable throne. Edit: This is the epitome of having your DM go off the rails game breaking spells
I definitely feel light Foresight gets underrated. It's just a really good 9th level spell and it made it insanely difficult for me to deal with the party's rogue during my last 20th level campaign.
A mistake about eyebite. Though you can affect multiple creatures, all effects end at the end of duration. I.E. if you drop concentration, all effects end. Makes eyebite *much* less good.
I think I read somewhere that True Polymorph doesn't allow lair effects, which is too bad, because sphinxes. In terms of campaign-breaking potential, not much beats time travel.
Another great episode. 👍 Can I suggest doing an episode on the rules/uses of Invisibility in 5E? The invisibility rules are something that so many DMs get wrong and misinterpret. I think a lot of DMs & players would benefit from an episode on this. Thanks, guys! Keep up the great work!
12:00 this is a pretty good way to combine those if you go first in initiative but if they go first you can have them do cloudkill and then just bubble them in completely with it inside. LOL stink bubble
Thank you dudes, for your great content, but also for your perfectly clear speaking, that allows guys like me, not that fluent in english understand almost every sinlge word!! That's rare!
My go-to spell is still hypnotic pattern. It's just a 3rd level spell that you get fairly early and when you finally get your bardic instrument, foes make their saves at disadvantage. I usually ask my gm to make my pattern of colors either Nyancat or baby shark. =P
So here's a question: if a high-level bard were to True Polymorph themselves into a metallic dragon, couldn't the bard just do what silver dragons often do and, after that one hour of held concentration, spend the rest of their life in their original form, and then transform into their new "true" dragon form whenever they want? If we go Rules As Written, would I be understanding that correctly? I mean, just think of how that would massively expand the bard's life span...! Oh, the possibilities...
Your stat block changes to that of the new creature, so you loose all your class abilities if you do this. I’ve had a friend get around this downside by pairing this with a wish to retain their class features when true polymorphed.
@@Dysentia Your statics change but it doesn't say you lose your class features. it says you are limited by your new form's ability to speak, use hand motions etc.
Our party's bard finally busted out his first 6th level spell, and disintegrated the leader of a pack of sahuagin. The rest of us blinked in surprise as he dealt the single highest damage hit in our campaigns history.
I feel like the dancing spell would probably interfere with somatic components to a degree, so in order to cast those spells I just imagine that a spellcaster under its effects has to incorporate those movements into their dance somehow, lol.
@@DungeonDudeshere is the question I have are there spells that are not on the Bard list that you would choose over these? I haven't played a bard but magical secrets basically means that I can get any spell if I meet all of the non class casting requirements so why wouldn't I choose them over what is on the Bard list?
I bought the cantrips from Deck of Many. I absolutely love them and can't wait to get more. Sad I missed out on 2 Jocat cards from one of their Kickstarters.
Just checked the Cleric spells video... And now I literally DREAM of a Valor Bard that will get Gate as their last Magical Secrets and actually summon a paladin order into a fight with a demon horde.
7th level Mordenkainen’s Magnificent Mansion is great for the entire party to get long rest and food and drink. No longer need to find and pay at an inn or to have someone stay on watch at camp.
I can vouch for the Deck of Many's spell cards. I ordered $300+ worth of cards, cancelled the order shortly after, and they sent it to me anyways despite the order being fully refunded. Messaged them about it and they said to just keep it. The cards are super high quality and very eye-catching, too.
I gotta disagree about otto’s dance. Most of the effects can be achieved more easily by other players, won’t cost a high level slot, and like it or not, not much is vulnerable to charm in the legendary category. Against what it will more likely work against, it’s a lot less useful than it sounds. I’d use this slot for heroic feast.
So what I’ve learned feom this video is just how much more OP Bards are than I originally thought… Apparently they not only overshadow Rogues, but also Clerics and Wizards…
Question about True Polymorph: If a bard decides to transform into a dragon (whatever it may be) and concentrate until it ends, they're stuck as a dragon, correct? Then how does spellcasting work in the situation of an intelligent creature that can speak and (presumably) cast spells?
You do not get to keep your class features (including Spellcasting) while under the effects of True Polymorph because you take on the game statistics of the new form. That power is reserved for the Shapechange spell.
Ohh polymorph to transform party members ooh oh second sight at high levels sets in but must save vs insanity in the attempt. Where the gods begin to speak to you to convey their will for your enemies and you get forwarned against future events.
Bard: *Casts Otto's Irresistible Dance* "WE CAN DANCE IF WE WANT TO!! WE CAN LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS BEHIND!!!" Villain: *Sigh* "You've got to be fucking kidding me..."
Okay this is just a thought, and I'm not sure if it would work like this but I'll share it anyway. This entire idea is why a bard and a wizard is over powered. Lets say your bard pics up true polymorphe, if you concentrate an hour on your wizard who you turned into a dragon they become it. Though some dragons have the ability to shape shift into a human form. Since I don't believe that you would lose your intelligence you can shape shift into a human and still use your wizard spells and regain all your attire and gear. Though if you please you can transform into a dragon as transportation, infiltration, and arial assault. Then go back into a human cast a few spells. The only true downfall is if you die that your turn back into your dragon form, but other than that you've increased your power, life span, and effectiveness. Also please never use this on a dm cause I don't want to be the one to blame.
RAW, True Polymorph does not allow the target to retain class features like Spellcasting in their new form, and neither does a Metallic Dragon's Change Shape ability allow the dragon to gain such class features by transforming.
@@TheChocobologist Well cut it for most classes. Could a wizard not gain back most it's perks since it still has the ability and capacity to read spells. That's why I said wizard at first cause I wizard in dnd just goes through training to learn magic. They don't have any predetermined gift, it's just a lot of studying.
My favorite Mass Suggestion use was during the ritual battle of Tiamat, mass suggestion hit 10/12 targets with a "leave now and never come back". Enemies, including some dragons, just left. Problem solved.
Did you guys just pass over Glibness?! Not only do you have guaranteed charisma rolls of 24-25 (15+proficiency 5+cha mod 4-5) It ignores zone of truth so you can lie up the wazoo and get away with it. You have effectively become the DM of any social encounter. combined with Mass Suggestion and you have now become the senate. Glibness works together with Counterspell. (15+2 Proficiency from Jack of all+4-5 cha mod) you now roll 21 on ALL counterspell checks, which means you can counterspell 9th level spells without upcasting. not getting hit by Meteor Swarm/Power Word: Kill sure is good.
Didn’t pass it over, it was on the short list but wasn’t either of our first choice. It should be stated as an honourable mention and we think it’s a great choice and very suiting for a Bard.
Wouldn't want to turn into a CR20 Legendary monster because part of their CR are legendary actions and saves which are removed from player Polymorphs, a CR20 non-legendary Monster would probably get more mileage.
Correction: All Eyebite effects end when the spell ends, they don't last past the duration of the spell.

One of my favourite graphic novels!
I love the D&D community so much
Is an Atropal a Beast? Polymorph explicitly said beast, I missed that note, and did polymorph problematically.
@@bradlylawson6923 True Polymorph doesn't have that distinction.
You can only make something up to challenge rating 9 from true polymorph...
@@maxonplayzgamez7954 that isn’t in the spell description, true polymorph lets you turn into whatever has a CR that matches your level
Force Cage and Cloudkill. Now that's what we call a warcrime.
if you want to play a nazi in DnD, now you know your spells
Would love to add that Glibness is an absolutely amazing spell for bards. At level 15 with a +5 proficiency (+2 with Jack of All Trades) and a 20 Charisma, it let's you use a 3rd level slot to automatically Counterspell or Dispel Magic any spell. (theoretically, even a level 12 spell)
It was heavily considered and is super appropriate for a Bard.
This means your level 3 counterspell will auto succeed against that Meteor Swarm, or even your BBEG's Wish or True Resurrection (happened to me once)
I would argue that Otto's Irresistible Dance dose affect some spells. Its doesn't specify weapon attacks and lots of spells make spell attack rolls.
If you haven't done it already, I rec picking up a magic initiate feat.
Some of my favourite high-level Bard spells are: Mass Suggestion, Forcecage, Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion, Resurrection, Symbol, Teleport, Dominate Monster, Feeblemind, Glibness, Foresight, Psychic Scream, and True Polymorph.
Symbol for damage, then forcecage to hold the enemies in place, then down to the tavern for a round or two if your opponents had ridiculously high HP and might survive that long.
Psychic screams head exploding effect reminds me of Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny scene during the song Master Exploder
I would suggest Glibness as an 8th level spell if you picked up Counterpell with your Magical Secrets. Counterspell requires a spellcasting ability check, which is a Charisma check for Bards, and Glibness gives a minimum of 15 on the dice for a Charisma check. A Bard with +4 Charisma and Glibness can counter any level spell without the possibility of failure
...for an hour.
beatleblev for 600 rounds for combat.
Yay now a video on Magical Secrets picks would be awesome
You guys have been such a great help! I'm just getting back into D&D with some friends who have never played before. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Hope you have a blast playing with your friends! Happy rolling!
The one spell I was surprised was not mentioned is True Seeing, that can just be so useful in many situations.
@@M0ebius Right, I forgot about Jack of all Trades, thanks for reminding me!
Can't believe there was no mention of Glibness, besides it's usefullness for Charisma skills, and that whole idea of using it for counterspells and dispel magics, the fact magic can't tell you're lying is really useful in some social situations.
Eye bite basically having dominance over all minds.
Glamour bard: What am I for?
Eyebite and unbreakable majesty stack which is really fun.
Gotta second mind blank- great long-term, no concentration buff, and in my experience at the level you get it, the protection it provides comes into play even more often than you think it will. If nothing else, trading a 8th level slot to keep the 8 wis Barbarian uncharmable 24/7 is often worth it.
It basically recreates Berseker's key ability
Hi Dungeon Dudes! Thank you so much for so many bard videos. I never appreciated the bard until 5e and now it's absolutely my favorite class. Bards can be anything and everything I appreciate your insights on how to make the class even more fun. Thank you!
So like, i’ve never sat in or participated in a single campaign of DnD. That being said, my first game will be on Sunday of this week. I’ve been watching so many of your videos-
How you guys communicate, work together, speak so respectfully but also with amusement and rank with what you speak of- It’s all just fantastic. Thank you so much for your time and passion.
Thank you so much! Good luck with the game! Have all the fun, and happy rolling!
True Polymorph into a creature with a good source of constant invisibility, like an Invisible Stalker, and you'll be untouchable all day.)
Also, the permanent duration of True Polymorph is notably different than an instantaneous duration. This means it can be dispelled, and still goes away if you hit 0 HP. So it's not as solid of an auto-kill button on enemies as it looks, but it's actually an amazing pre-big-battle buff for your party, since there's barely any tactical downside to starting the fight as a party of dragons.
6 - Programmed Illusion
7 - Mirage Arcana
8 - Glibness
9 - True Polymorph
ill tell you what's the best high level bard spell
9th level counterspell
You can also use Glibness and just cast it 3rd level to successfully counter all spells if you have 18 Charisma or more. Wizards are masters of all magic? Bard: a wizard and a bard walk into a bar...
@@rafaelbordoni516 you dont even need 18 charisma you need 14 the other +2 will come from jack of all trade.

Mass suggestion can be used to give your enemies at least 2 points of suggestion. if you cast it and tell your targets to dance they will have to dance for 24 hours without sleeping and they get at least 1 point of exhaustion from both sources. Afterwards they will be easily overwhelmed.
Glibness is a good 8th level spell, particularly if you’re going to be Counterspell’ing or using Telekinesis.
Conjure daggers is one I think of for upcasting, it's a low level spell but it can boost the damage by a massive amount
For teleport, on the mishap table, it says associated object gives a 100% chance of success. The way i run that is take a rock from the location. When u cast the spell hold the rock and u bamf there
While it likely won't come up, be sure to 'refresh' your taken object every 6 months if you're counting on a Teleport to return you home on a regular basis.
I love the generosity of these dudes. Letting us listen in on their dude-isms.
Here is the spell description if you don’t know:
Until the spell ends, when you make a Charisma check, you can replace the number you roll with a 15.
Back in 3.5 it was a third level spell :D
I definitely feel light Foresight gets underrated. It's just a really good 9th level spell and it made it insanely difficult for me to deal with the party's rogue during my last 20th level campaign.
A mistake about eyebite. Though you can affect multiple creatures, all effects end at the end of duration. I.E. if you drop concentration, all effects end. Makes eyebite *much* less good.
I think I read somewhere that True Polymorph doesn't allow lair effects, which is too bad, because sphinxes. In terms of campaign-breaking potential, not much beats time travel.
I started playing D&D back in November is a Bard and I love it! This video is perfectly timed because we are just now getting to 10th level

I love Power Word Kill (thematically) , but Psychic Scream is super awesome
These videos are the highlight of my Tuesdays/Thursdays. Thanks dudes!
Best of all, now the bard can really lay the dragon.
@@heavenseeker2320 I push the "horny bard" trope out of my mind so much that I played myself; I should have expected this comment to appear, lmao.
Your stat block changes to that of the new creature, so you loose all your class abilities if you do this. I’ve had a friend get around this downside by pairing this with a wish to retain their class features when true polymorphed.

Power spikes: 3rd level spells, 6th level spells and 9th level spells.

Our favorite Dungeon Bros are on a bit of a Bard kick. I'm not complaining

Magnificent Mansion is great for the entire party to get long rest and food and drink. No longer need to find and pay at an inn or to have someone stay on watch at camp.
Leomund's Instant Hut is a good poor man's alternative but yeah the mansion rules
Also Mind Blank makes you immune to FeebleMind
Have you guys ever looking into Odyssey of the Dragonlords campaign? I feel like you two would have so much fun with this Greek Inspired setting
So what I’ve learned feom this video is just how much more OP Bards are than I originally thought… Apparently they not only overshadow Rogues, but also Clerics and Wizards…
Great video, bard are my favourite class.
Although, I noticed you a bit distracted? Maybe many notes from the production team?
Thank you for the guide, Dudes :D
Question about True Polymorph: If a bard decides to transform into a dragon (whatever it may be) and concentrate until it ends, they're stuck as a dragon, correct?
Then how does spellcasting work in the situation of an intelligent creature that can speak and (presumably) cast spells?
You do not get to keep your class features (including Spellcasting) while under the effects of True Polymorph because you take on the game statistics of the new form. That power is reserved for the Shapechange spell.
@@TheChocobologist That makes sense. It's never come up during one of my group's games so that was always something that was ambiguous to me.

Villain: *Sigh* "You've got to be fucking kidding me..."
It’s smart to retrain Raise Dead into Resurrection when you’re capable.
@@lucasm.3864 Well the bard isn't a dragon, I'm saying the wizard is. Though the bard could technically do this with anyone. If it actually does work
RAW, True Polymorph does not allow the target to retain class features like Spellcasting in their new form, and neither does a Metallic Dragon's Change Shape ability allow the dragon to gain such class features by transforming.
@@TheChocobologist Well cut it for most classes. Could a wizard not gain back most it's perks since it still has the ability and capacity to read spells. Psychic Scream is Tenacious D's Master Exploder.
My favorite Mass Suggestion use was during the ritual battle of Tiamat, mass suggestion hit 10/12 targets with a "leave now and never come back". Enemies, including some dragons, just left. Problem solved.
An evil bard villain with these spells would be devastating against player characters.
A dancing dragon should still be able to tramble on humansize charakters :D
Mass Suggestion: Have an all-night dance battle!
Did you guys just pass over Glibness?!
Not only do you have guaranteed charisma rolls of 24-25 (15+proficiency 5+cha mod 4-5) It ignores zone of truth so you can lie up the wazoo and get away with it. If you pick Eldritch Adept and the Mask of Many Faces invocation/Or just multiclass 2 levels of warlock/Or be a changeling. you can now assume a person of high authority and anyone trying to blow your cover has to roll 24-25 or 29-30 if you took expertise in deception.
