Everyone with any knowledge of sports history realizes Bob Sheppard was the best PA man ever. The mystery is why don't more announcers try to emulate his understated style instead of turning into screamers.
By the way, this reminds me of listening to the 1998 World Series. Gwynn had commented after the NLCS win that he looked forward to hearing his name announced by the legendary voice. So when the Padres made their first visit to Yankee Stadium, the radio announcers went silent to let Sheppard's first introduction of Tony Gwynn go through the airwaves. Chills, even at the time. A pair of true baseball men.
As a kid first time I went to yankee stadium , I heard that VOICE and thought wtf is god doing announcing the Yankees !!! The best ever to do it always and forever
Can I have your attention please ladies and gentle please direct your attention to the area in front of the gates of heaven and please welcome a new angel
Jon Miller does great impersonations. Bob Shepherd is probably the greatest PA announcer of all time. Also did the New York Giants football games. "Ball carried by Riggins.....tackled....by Carson......
Antlab1, was it seriously a rush hearing his voice, like have you been to a game when he announced? I've heard so many people say that it hadn't been the same without him and i wish i could have gone when he was still alive
When going to games as a child ,you just stopped for bit and say to you're dad or yourself n think wow that sound on the speaker is just different. It's the Yankees sound dad said .
In some games, the NYY played 3 catchers: Yogi in left, Elston Howard as catcher, and John Blanchard as the first baseman. I think this may have been in 1962 but my memory fades from time to time as this was 55 years ago.
As Yogi aged he played more OF. Don't forget, he was left fielder for the '61 Classic team. Also, Elston Howard was too great to not have in the everyday lineup. Bob Sheppard..ICON
Life at Yankee Stadium ain’t the same without Bob Sheppard. He will always be a legend and will never be forgotten
Same with the new stadium in general too.
Even as a die hard Mets fan this video brought tears to my eyes. An absolute legend.
Bob Sheppard was gold
This video makes me sad. There was nothing better then hearing his voice over the PA in Yankee Stadium. RIP Bob Sheppard!!!
Bob Sheppard was gold
I will always remember that very first game at Yankee Stadium hearing his voice. Thank you

Because....most of them, compared to Sheppard, aren't very good.
I can still hear his voice from the 1960’s. “Batting fourth and playing center field, number seven, Mickey Mantle, number seven”.
I loved going to the Stadium and hearing Bob Shepherd welcoming us to Yankee Stadium & calling out the lineup
As a lifelong Yankees fan, I can honestly say that his voice was so strong and fatherly.
imagine seeing all these players in one lifetime wow

It was like a Religious Experience hearing his voice. On a beautiful sunny day he would make you feel as if you were being welcomed to Heaven.
Ladies and gentlemen..
Thank You... Mister Sheppard
Let's not forget Robert Merrill, as well
From a Mets fan, God bless Bob.
The voice will never die.
We Miss You Bob shepherd🙏🙏🙏
When I die, I want to hear him call my name like “Now batting for the New York Yankees, the right fielder, #21, Efrén Pérez, #21”
My grandfather also died at 99. He was born in 1909, and died in 2009.
Clear, concise and correct. Bob Sheppard was the greatest of all time.
Ladies and Gentlemen, your attention please.....Not ONE player attended his funeral....shame
irish89055 why not ?
Can't wait for when I die (hopefully long ways off) and I hear Bob Shepherd announce my arrival!

If Bob Sheppard was The Voice Of God, what does that make Tex Rickards?
New Yankee stadium killed bob Sheppard
Yogi Berra is known as a catcher, not an outfielder
slapshot68 yes in the beginning of his career but was moved to left field because he was not fast enough to pick people off
In some games, the NYY played 3 catchers: Yogi in left, Elston Howard as catcher, and John Blanchard as the first baseman. I think this may have been in 1962 but my memory fades from time to time as this was 55 years ago.
y is yogi LF
Drew Harrison he played alot of left field towards the end of his career
What a voice. An ICON.
As Yogi aged he played more OF. Don't forget, he was left fielder for the '61 Classic team. Also, Elston Howard was too great to not have in the everyday lineup.
Bob Sheppard..ICON
It’s a good thing Derek Jeter could play baseball, because his skills as a voice impersonator are lacking.
