Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 14 years old, her favorite word is mad.

The best part is Billie wants to learn. It doesn't seem to be all about the treats. She really enjoys the interaction, her ears perk up and her eyes widen. There really is a little person in there.

I had a cat for 14 years. There's certainly a level of consciousness in them. When I was young i was using the sewing drawer to sew toys for her. She actually connected the dots and whenever i opened the drawer she was snuggling and purring waiting for the toy to be ready.

It’s less about them being consciousness and more about her being decently old and wanting to learn.

The question is: will she be doing it out of good will to lighten up Kendra’s mood in the future, or will she only do it for food? By using: “Bye Training” she expects it to include food. - Maybe she just found “training” to be a reasonable price for the extra food, as she learned that she will not always get food just by asking for food.

    • @camykw
      @camykw ปีที่แล้ว +15

That's so cute that Billi actually asks for training! My cat is not super food motivated, she's socially motivated, and yet, whenever I grab her bowl of food and head into the bedroom to do some training, she gets super excited and runs after me. Food that she normally finds to be just so-so she is suddenly super eager to eat when it's coming from my hand and being done in exchange for tricks!

She is so amazing, as is her Mama! I love watching these videos. I used button switches with my special needs students who were non verbal. I know the joy of having kids/cats "get it". We've had many shouts of joy over kids who finally had a voice. I found typical kids in the same age and ethnicity to record their "voices", and used those students exclusively. They would come in before/after school or during breaks to record new messages for the day or week. I had some step-by-step buttons that we used for knock, knock jokes. That was a hit all over campus. 🎉 Congratulations, Billie, on learning a new skill - and for specifically asking to learn it!

This is a fantastic example of what it takes to train a cat. There is a lot more repetition than with a dog but cats can learn a lot more than people give them credit for. I always had little commands that my cats would follow without any issues. The biggest on was ringing a bell outside for them to come in for dinner. It worked fantastic.
Whenever I put down the food dish I would ring the bell. It didn’t take long for them to connect the two and come to the bell. Even when blocks away.

She is actively seeking out the interactions involved in training. When we know she can get cuddles and treats through other interactions it does strongly suggest she desires to make these new and unfamiliar associations. Especially since they are not direct to her experience. By that I mean she is not saying "bye" to you but to an ephemeral audience.

Billi has been so amazing bc she is so open to trying and learning new things. Not sure if that's bc of her amazing Mom or just her personality, or maybe a little of both. After the fiasco with the food mousey, where my Lily was shocked and awed to realize I intended for her to bat it to make crunchies come out, I can just imagine if I suggested any kind of training. She'd probably respond something like, Yeah sure I'll do that after you practice diving head first off the balcony.

The most similar thing I did to this video is I'd reward him the closer he got to what I wanted until he figured it out - and try not to regress, of course.

I love training videos its so cool to see the process and with the description texts you make along the video I learn a lot for my futur cat(s) on how to make learning positive and not frustating for them, love your videos from France and hope you'll do more explicative videos like this! (Sorry if there are fault or anomalies my english is not perfect)

I had a very, very smart cat once who would sit, sit up, lie down, roll over, shake hands, speak, and did impressions of an owl a bunny and a sheep. I was never sure if I trained her, or she trained me.

Billi is just so smart! When I was growing up, we never would have thought to train our cat. We trained the dog to shake, and she got so wise to it, she would come into the kitchen and raise her paw to "shake" to ask for a treat. She trained her hoomans, LOL. Has Billi trained you yet when she wants treats? I guess asking for "Bye training" was her way of asking for a jackpot of treats!

My goodness she is getting so g8 at this now. I was impressed before but the video of her asking for food and u stating there was none and then offering to go outside and she ended up mad was a full blown conversation with requests, barter, anger, compromise. So brilliant.

I'm so proud of Billi! She is so smart. My husband is continually amazed at how much she knows. I think he was skeptical at first. I have been thinking of doing the buttons with our cat Abby. I think she'd enjoy it! Me too! 😻

This is so neat! I love how eager she is to participate and learn new "tricks." I put the word into quotations because it's more than "just" tricks. She's understanding the process, initiating the process and will at some point use the new word/movement in her own ways just as she has the others she's learned.
I think you would really enjoy watching Warwick Schiller's take on working with horses- which is so much like this type of interaction.

Billi is a fast learner that’s for sure and it really impressive that you spare your time for this and youre patient.

clever Billi knows 'bye training' = *FOOD* 😹😼 (plus cats are clever, intelligent & curious, food alone wouldn't motivate Billi to learn) 🤔
