@@DanielBoonesloggingvideos I am retired now out of production logging, was operating a 009 Madill in some real steep stuff, shotgunning and High Lead,i lucky i caught the last of the old growth hardwood before the greenies shut it down in Australia/N*Z,like all loggers anywhere in the World we love that big wood!I went truck driving and thought i could eat like i could when i was falling climbing around the hills, oops not a good move!
@@DanielBoonesloggingvideos Skiddaw Forest Pelorus Sound N*Z,its was pretty steep mostly High Lead from the waters edge ,and Scabbing when had some deflection, and JD skidder pull down to an old Pacific pole jinker truck to the landing to process it,add high rainfall and clay it could become a cluster,as you can imagine! That ole V12 detroit used to sound good on winters morning bouncing off the hills!
Aren't those undercarriages chain drive? What if a chain breaks and your guyline had already pulled? I'd say you're going to take a short trip down the hill. Unless there's some kind of track brake with a pin or something 🤔
Them chains are super beefy i'd be more concerned about the jaw clutches and sprocket condition, and no there are no brakes etc. If the chains break.Ive seen oldtimers put a biscuit (wood or whatever) between the drive tumbler and the track belt if they were nervous. Thanks D.B. taker easy
great video. interesting boom on that 98. I've only seen latice booms and heel booms on them. also I'm curious to why he's not using his guy line.
Yeah not sure on the guyline scenario. Manke lumber had specially built the yarding boom for it.
What's up with the rigging crew sending an airplane turn into a tight landing?
one guy line hung out that far bet he said its a ls 98 not a fing bu98
west coast logging alex esgate + 1 on that bud for sure! Stay safe!
Was that originally designed as a yarder? Or previous life as a cable crane that was converted to a yarder? Great videos on this company!
Thanks man 👍🏻👍🏻 I was told this thing came out of the factory with the idea it was gonna yard logs haha
Ls 98 was available in several configurations, as a crane they were 30 ton i think.
We call that a handbag gut hooking them like that,in Sth Pacific!
haha thats too funny Geoff. What are you yarding with over there ? I assume you are still logging in the south pacific.

Wow that would have been cool to see !
You can tell how hard you're pulling on the turn by how far the door swings forward!
Haha that’s it too 🤙🏻

Yup chain drive, not sure about the brake scenario, Good point !
