There was only one time I used an aphorism and it was more to exemplify something it went something like this: “When life gives you lemons make lemonade. But that isn’t true we grew lemons after all they are a combination of a bitter orange and a citron that we combined, so just like the lemon that wasn’t given to us you alone must grow your future.” It went something like this I don’t remember fully lol

I want to use the Latin phrase ex nihilo to start the essay, do you think that would be a good idea? Right now I’m a freshman and want to start preparing ideas for when the day does come.

If you're a freshman, stop thinking about college essays right now. You still have 2 and a half full years of life that are relevant to discuss and likely your ideas, sentences, and drafts likely won't fit once you start writing those essays.
I'd try to avoid anything in any other language, especially something obscure like Latin. Unless Latin is something central to what you want to study or important any of your interests, using a word in another language, especially one that you have to define is not a good opening. Taking Latin class because you thought it was interesting is not good enough-youd have to go deeper than that~
You're still a freshman, keep developing your interests and think about the activities you want to engage in throughout highschool
      Hope that helps :O

prepare ideas by making new learning experiences. You got the time. Maybe when you have such experiences, jot down notes or put them into a diary to remember it when the essay writing comes. Trust me, I'm a senior and my UC college apps are due tmr lol

Have you ever lied? stolen? hated? been prideful? gossiped? swore? Or other bad things? I Can say without a doubt we’ve at least done something that was considered bad, consciously that we shouldn’t have done. this is called sin. It’s the act of doing something against what God wants in our lives.
Think about this. You have just invited someone over to your house, and that means you can place rules on what they do - because it’s your home! Now lets say this said person directly disobeyed the rules you’ve placed while they were there. you would be offended right?
This is exactly the situation with us and God. We are the person staying over in His creation, yet we consciously disobey- which is called Sin. We all have this problem and because of this God has to send us to hell because He is so just can’t just let these wrong doings pass. Think of it as a guilty criminal having to be sentenced to jail because the Judge knows it’s right. We are the guilty criminal. Hell is our punishment. And God is that Judge.
Well, this would mean that everyone would go to hell because we’ve all committed sin-disobedience from God, consciously. But here’s the good news. Jesus came to die on the cross, taking our punishment upon Himself, for our sins so we don’t need to go to hell. Think of that same analogy with the criminal. Now there is a person that’s willing to bail that criminal out and if that criminal accept that gift of bail, then they will be able to legally be free.
If we accept that, Jesus died on the cross for our sins and repent- turn away from sin-then we will be saved because we take His bail that He offers for free so we can go to heaven.
