Thanks Jeff! Yes, I agree completely. I have updated my equipment since this video was made so more appropriate mic's are now used for picking up all instruments. Cheers! Mike
I was a bit like Nick below - wasn't sure if the blues would sound bluesy on the mandolin due to the inability to bend notes which is such a blues thing, but no, this is great. I've learned a lot. Never knew I was playing such scales when playing the blues on the guitar! Thanks - and to Jay.
Mike, As far I know there are Major pentatonic blues scale and minor pentatonic blues scale. The chords you have used are all Dom7. It means these have a tonic, major 3rd, perfect 5th and a b7. So which pentatonic scale should be played over such Dom7 chords? Major blues one or the minor one? Please help me out
Love you lessons, you're a great teacher.....how about a tutorial for Mississippi Kid by Lynyrd Skynyrd - there are a couple of cracking mandolin covers on youtube but could use some help trying to get it together, especially the riff that repeats throughout the song
Mike, this was FABULOUS.
Thanks!
I accidentally bought a mandolin while looking for a guitar to learn on. This is great! Thanks Mike!
Rock on!
That's funny! I accidentally bought a banjo when shopping for a tuner in a music store. Then I accidentally bought a mandolin and a bass.
I love the blues but I wasn't sure how well it'd suit the mandolin... I was totally wrong. Brilliant lesson, one of your best :-)
Cheers Nick!
Man, I like it! Many thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Very, very helpful. Thank you Mike.
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant Mike. Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I like the instructions. Clear and easy to understand. I wish you could mic the guitar.

Ah great ... the mandolin will work in any scenario, I'm sure of it :-)
