It's always dark when students leave because they have study periods that go into the night. They would either stay at the school for those study periods or go to a cram school elsewhere. They take studying very, very seriously. Especially when they become seniors like our MCs, who have to study for the CSAT 😪😪
I think Kanghoon wants to be part of huisoo and bongseok's friendship. Huisoo said that she and bongseok are close and their parents own shops+they're loners. Kanghoon is like that too. I also think that maybe Kanghoon jump that high and left this prints so huisoo and bongseok can see that and think that there's someone like them too(coz it's not normal to jump that high).
High school seniors can stay after class for self study sessions between 5-11pm. Our main characters have only a few months left until the intense 8-hour suneung college entrance exam, so anyone looking to go to college in their class will be staying at school until 11pm, unless they have other private tutoring arrangements.
PE isn't exactly frowned upon, but it's a very specific career path that you wouldn't enter into in your last semester of high school. Dad is upset because Hee-soo is making this huge change just to avoid being a burden, not because it offers better prospects (she'd be competing against students who've trained intensely for years), or because it's a passion she truly wants to pursue.
@@glennhkboy the teachers and the NIS manipulated her for that specific reason. but the comment is about dad and heesoo's pov about the decision, which is correct and what the reactors were asking for. she chose PE to avoid more expenses, he's concerned because she's making a dramatic change about her future last minute. its not a frowned upon career choice, but the circumstances are sad all in all bc she can't pursue what she truly wants to.
@@gyjlover Also, in most Asian high schools, students either choose or being assigned a specialized path (art, science, commerce, performance art, etc.) at the start of their senior high school year. Than students should prepare for their university entrance exam according to that path. So it would be highly unusual to change your path at the last year of senior high school, which mean that you waste your pass 2 years' study for nothing.
also, this doesn't really apply to Heesoo's dad and his mindset, but in korea any form of art (performing arts) and sports are kind of looked down on.... cuz it's for kids that aren't smart/ can't study. Those perceptions are getting better these days tho, cuz it's celebrities that get paid without doing much.
23:57 Class president Ganghoon isn't shady. He's just lonely. The homeroom teacher told him someone like him would join the school and when Heesoo came, he was excited to have a friend he could get close to. However, he's awkward and doesn't know how to get close to her and she's getting closer and closer to Bongseok instead. He wants to be part of the group but doesn't know how so he keeps leaving hints that he's like them.
Bongseok is soo cute and he didn't get that personality from this mother hahaha she's always act cool,(well she's very cool),serious and calm. Can't wait for you to see each others character's backstory.
Isn't Bong-Seok so cute?! He said that he gained 30kg just to play Bong-Seok(Sorry my English is short) and he lost 30kg right after it ended. He said in his interview that rather than losing or gaining 30kg, maintaining 30kg was the hardest thing to do lol
In the store, Bong Seok heard the truck before it arrived. So far we've seen that he has super hearing and smell (he identified what his mother was cooking from his bed in episode1). I was confused too by the warning at the beginning even though most shows/movies have it. Apparently the author included versions of a lot of real-life events in the story.
They stay in school till night to study more. Since Korea is a small country and has no natural resources worth exporting, their best resource is human and education has great importance to Koreans. Plus, PE isn't frawned upon in Korea. It is usually considered harder path tho, with less chance of being successful. I think Huisoo's father was more like worried that she made unexpected change in her major knowing that she wanted to do something else.
4:36 Maybe After this series you should check out the movie, Extreme Job...because it has that same actor doing the same thing with a nickname that relates to the current character.
😀 Most high schools in Korea aim for students to go to college. Of course, going to college is an option, but Korea's college entrance rate is over 73%. The third year of high school is the last year of preparing for college entrance exams, and you can autonomously do night self-study at school.
They are just adorable together. They are totally going to be together. This show is so good. Slow burn but gets better with each episode.Reactions by Summer for this episode is too adorable.
I've seen videos where Korean high school students stay in school up to 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening to study and do homework, then go to an "academy" where they get extra lessons in English, math, and science. Lessons at the academy end around 10:00pm.
It's actually normal in Asian countries to stay at school until late in the evening. Basically it's an after school program just shown in the episode, which you do in the evening for a couple of hours after the already long regular school hours where, after a break as shown, you basically do your homework or study. If you consider that Korean students also usually attend secondary preparatory academies in order to prepare for admission to the best universities, they basically spend all day and evening at school. It is simply another school system which, by Western standards (generalising obviously) may appear very harsh, which in fact it is, as the Korean system is among the most competitive in the world and with the highest suicide rate among students. This is not intended as a criticism, every country has its own culture and way of life, for better or for worse. Lee Gang-Hoon has an obvious problem opening up to others, he shouldn't be considered shady. We will understand more about him later. Jang Hui-Soo obviously pretended to forget his shoes in the locker, he wanted to surprise Kim Bong-Seok to see if he really knew how to fly like he had suspected after all the strange scenes he had witnessed. It didn't work, but on the other hand it worked, indirectly, by touching him once more so that he couldn't hold back any longer.
i think the next couple eps will explain why huisoo tells bongseok not to get involved or do anything involving the bully. cant wait to see yalls reaction to eps 5. loving the show so far!
I can help explain why it’s dark when the students leave school. In some asian countries, we have night school! You basically go to do homework there. You have a break after school ends and then you go back to school for about an hour or two. Depending on the school, these are required or voluntary.
Don't meddle in and just shut up! The question is about Korean high schools, not some Asian countries. and you don't represent any of other Asian countries except your own. Korean high schools, except those not preparing for universities, mostly runs from 7:40 am to 10pm.
8:35 In Korea, PE( sports university ) has little chance of getting a good job. First of all, because Korea's population is small, there are few people who can work as professional players, and going abroad is limited. However, more than 70% of Korean teenage students go to university. In Korea, the sense or idea is that even if someone is good at cooking, running a business, investing, or playing sports, they must graduate from college. In Korea, once someone graduate from university, there are many jobs that recognize their college graduation, regardless of their major. I used a translator. Korean high schools include liberal arts and natural sciences. Most students go to university with this. I kind of hate it when actors do that for roles. It can be dangerous to change your weight that fast. I'm glad he didn't suffer any long term effects.
